Fast food joints on college campuses

When I was at JSU, we had the cafe and this place called "the Grill" where you could buy stuff like a chicken basket. Actually, the old heads seemed to have had a lot of choices around JSU. They always talk about places like the old "Penguin", etc... we were advised NOT to walk on the back side of campus when I was in school.

the back side of the campus was where it was poppin'

yep.
We had plenty of places within walking distance. We used to walk down Lynch street, stumbling drunk to the New Edition and back at 3AM after our KEG Parties. It was located in the old crumbling building directly across the street from where the baseball field is now. Did the same when we had parties at Freddies down Lynch street going towards Ellis or the ELKS club behind the car wash past the old Cotton Bowl bowling ally. Even the women walked in groups to parties back then. If you caught a ride to the parties, cool, but if you didn't, you bought a bottle and struck out walking.

Not advisable today.

It's sureal to be on the corner of Dalton...LOL I remember when it was apartments over their where the Liberal Arts building and Business building are...I can tell you I never went to that corner while on the yard. I crossed over to the old gym through the fence by the Health department and publications.. Shoot I didn't go to Stamps until I was a JR....LOL

I knew cats who lived in a house off Prentis and had some apartments right behind the football dorm across the tracks....Man those cats were vikings and wanted that freedom. I was cool with Stewart Hall and the Honors dorm...LOL

I had a car and plenty cash from working with my uncle so Eating on campus was not an issue. I was all out on county line Freshmen year....LOL

And TP the grill was infamous for those Chillie Cheeseburger combos....I remeber when they moved Financial aid into the Grill....LOL The old Union has seen its fair share of reincarnations....LOL

Yall had it good and have it good now. heck when I started college you could only go thru the line once. We had to sneak and get someone to give you a sandwich to take back to the room. :emlaugh: They changed it where you could go thru the line more then once my sophomore year. Heck there was no cable in the dorms. Only pay phones unless you got your parents to get one turned on for you because the deposit was like 300 bucks if they didn't do it. No in room visitation. Could not go on the girls end after 10 p.m. man yall better thank God you were born later. Pops kill me talking about control of HBCU's. I could only imagine if he went to college in the 80's early 90's. :emlaugh: he would have went crazy. Heck why you think we got in so much trouble. We was bored as hell. Ain't nothing to do but smoke a joint and drink Colt 45. :emlaugh:

Cee, I have to agree with Pop that all that B.S. HBCU’s are selling that they CARE so much about students is exactly what it is “B.S.†Them Mofo’s don’t give a crap about you! But what has gotten lost in the raising of the modern kid is “what does not kill you makes you stronger,†especially the abundance of black kids from sheltered middle class and above backgrounds. Most of these kids can’t deal with pressure and are going to be in for a rude awakening when they get on these jobs. What you get at a HBCU is how to deal with the real world. At a HBCU you learn life lessons early and for some “quickly.†I was one of those hardheaded kids that had to get life lessons taught more than once. But Southern University taught me when I get knocked down. . . you get up and try again. You get knocked down again. . . you get up again. Eventually either you can’t get up anymore or you don’t get knocked down ever again.

It was chicken baskets with fries when we was there. Those chilli Cheeseburgers was good also. It used to close at 10pm. If you went there at 9:30pm, it was like waiting in line at the fair.
