Fans breaking your rank.... Has this happen to you?

You did the right thing by letting it go. Remember, MANY people dont know about your ranks, customs, band laws, etc. All they see is a shortcut from point A to point B to get to the ticket booth, family, or cokes/food. Period. Next thing ya know they get MANHANDLED and feel they have been disrespected ...

Remember.....you did put your hand on him. The judge doesnt' care about breakin ranks. They wanna know how it started. ...

Next time someone breaks your ranks, just say (without grabbing him)...."No disrespect my brother, but this is our ranks and we cant let folks pass through the band. Appreciate it". You dont have to grab....simply place your hand on his shoulder and talk to him like a friend. Most folks (with sense) will say "oh...my bad. I didnt' know." ...
That's all it takes. No drama, no getting swole up, no hollering. Just making your point in a respectful way.

Most of the time, when you give it, you get it in return.

No, I don't think YOU understand.

I know speaking from MY school, you do get a warning that you can not break ranks. After your warning and you STILL try, anything can happen.

Times have slightly changed since my days of marching. People are more crazy and will pull out a gun on you in a second. So, I don't know how current band members handle people trying to walk through their bands. I'm willing to bet it's not too much different.
However, during MY day, outside people didn't walk through your band, AND band members from different sections didn't even walk through your section.

That's in every aspect of life ChicagoJag.....

But what is interesting is that this statement was agreed upon but not practiced......:shame:

Talking about the Parlimentarian now Roi...:wavey: ;)

Speaking of respectful. We were respectful in letting people know they couldn't walk through the band. And most people respected that and kept going.

Same during the time when I was there. We politely instructed them to go around and they complied. Rarely did we have that problem during my stint in the Boom. Usually the two outside people in parade formation were the ones who deterred them.

I dig what you're saying but jumping on a dude because he cut through your line aint kosher either.

Now if you explain the situation and he still try to buck then hey, thats on him.

I mean, dat's all I'm saying.....naw, it wouldn't be right if we jumped on him for trying to break ranks, but if he kept trying then it was on.

But my thing is how could they NOT know?? It's just certain shat u don't do. It's dayum near like trying to break a funeral procession- out of respect, u just don't do it  But I guess that's just me. :whatever:

It was rare that we had those Gary Anderson moments. That dude was being disrespectful. He was trying to do his que steps in the middle of the band. :smh:

Hollered!!!!!!!!!!!!
The bruhs can come up with some chants, can't they? And Eta Eta was never NO JOKE!

There were a number of altercation when I was at SU. In ATL some drunk cat from TnSU wanted to teach our drum section a cadence and tried to grab somebodies sticks and play their drum. . . He lost teeth and was removed from the Ga. Dome. in ' 94 some clown in Alcorn wanted to March out of the stadium with us...He got kicked to sleep, not a good day: Lost to Alcorn, Mcnair broke the passing yardage record and they released balloons and held up the game for 35 minutes. I could go on and on. In Tallahassee @ FAMU some idiot decided he wanted to dance with the Dancing Dolls... He got an azz whooping and a trip to central booking. Not saying that we were right, probably not. There were no girls in the band then, so there was probably just too much testosterone. If we didn't fight somebody I guess we would have to fight each other. I don't think its like that now. A kinder, gentler Jaguar Nation.

Too quick to try to make a point without fully understanding the statement, again. Break it down for those who dont understand = explain it to non-band people. Do you get it now?

Stop being so quick to cosign and comprehend first.

Cant admit you jumped to conclusions without understanding what I meant in the first place? Thats fine. I never addressed YOU in the first place, wasnt me that chose to get offended or catch feelings.

I think it also depends on your band too... If u go to like a aggressive band like SU, JSU, AAMU, PV.. them types known for jus fuggin niggs up an hazing.. people know not to act up...

UNKNOWN, I got your point (being respectful and marching in a SWAC band isn't going to make you lose your sense), and my point still stands, which is that I can tell that you've never marched in a SWAC band.

As some of us have already stated: We are respectful in letting people know they can't break ranks.
BUT the seriousness of how bandmembers take outsiders breaking their ranks is something you don't and won't understand, because you've never been in a SWAC band.

Now go somewhere and sit down, because you're speaking on a topic that YOU know NOTHING about!

Maybe with the white school bands, they don't mind when people break their ranks.

um.....er.....did I miss something? Ive been swac affiliated since 82' and didnt'
know these 4 bands were legendary for "so called" fuggin niggs up and hazing. This entire statement is absurd and unfounded. Be careful what u type on the net my brother. Big brother is watching.

I think we all agree that the CONSEQUENCES are the same no matter the school affiliation. When you have a group of 100 or more bandsmen and someone makes them aggressive......the end result will be the same. DISCOMFORT.
