FAMU's entire athletic department is a joke. :smh:
JSUpop33, I don't hate FAMU. I just hate that their alums/supporters who post on the messages boards are so delusional. They brag about how much money they are rolling in but their athletic department is barely staying afloat. Look at FAMUCliff's sig. Does FAMU really have the #1 athletics amoung HBCUs? When is the last time their football, basketball, or baseball teams even won a regular season MEAC title? How the hell are you going to "threaten" to join a PWC FCS conference and dismiss the Legacy Bowl when you have nothing to offer but a big band that doesn't travel outside of classics? They are nothing more than broke, ghetto snobs who attempt to sell magic beans on the internet.
Let's see. We are current co champions in footbal. We last won a basketball conference championship in 2007. We have a 70% winning percentage over the last 3 years in football (including the losses to FBS Miami). We play in 2 of the four or five largest HBCU games annually. For the past 3 years we've ranked #1 among HBCUs in selling licensed merchandise (including our women's line of clothing sold through Victoria's Secret Pink brand). We also just signed a one of kind deal among HBCUs with IMG to handle our Athletic marketing.
And since you brought up the big band that doesnt travel..over the past few years they have performed at the Grammy's, a Presidental Inauguration, the ESPY's, the Super Bowl, Honda BOTB and we are currently being featured with BCU in a 5 part series on ESPN called "The Battle".
Magic Beans? Maybe..but you best believe we have a hell of a lot to be proud of and brag about.
1. A 3-way MEAC co-champions title doesn't hold weight, especially when FAMU got the sh*t beat out of them by Tennessee State.
2. FAMU won the MEAC Tournament title, not the regular season title, back in 2007. The Rattlers were aweful until the MEAC tourrnament then turned around and got the brakes beat off of them in the play-in game.
3. No one cares about the amount of t-shirts FAMU sells. We're talking about successful athletic departments.
4. I was referring to your band traveling to football games to suppor their team. Outside of classics and a random trip to Orangeburg, the Marching 100 doesn't travel to FAMU games.
But you stated that our entire athletic program was a joke. I just gave you some very real numbers as to some of our success over the last few years. I didnt mention anything about the success of our women's programs...nor did I mention the state of the art, 10000 seat multi purpose teach gym that jsut opened last year..nor did I mention the fact that our boosters gave back to the tune of half a million dollars last year which is up significantly over the past few years (and leads all HBCUs btw). Again...you might see it as trying to sell magic beans but our current administration has a vision and a plan and it looks to be paying off. I hope the same can be said about JSU.
