FAMU Death Caused By Hazing, Blunt Force Trauma

Re: Autopsy Report: FAMU Death Caused By Hazing, Blunt Force Trauma

Everyone that ws on that bus should be brought up on charges. You'll then find out who did what and get all of those involved charged with the right crime.

Do they have anyone on the bus to supervise these students?

I know at PV we always had a director, asst or someone that worked for the university on each bus and was in charge of it. I know when I worked there I was over Bus 3 or Bus 4 on all of the trips. None of that crap happened on my bus.
Exactly! This saddens me to the point that there are murderers walking around and it seems that no one is telling the truth! Dayum that "No Snitch" policy! A student is DEAD!! By the hands of your so-called friend! How much of a friend was Mr. Champion to you if you know something? Also something that has me puzzled, was he the only person crossing bus "C"? Why was he beat so badly?

Re: Autopsy Report: FAMU Death Caused By Hazing, Blunt Force Trauma

Get a list of the students on bus c and then charge them all with manslaughter. Folks will start singing like Luther then.

subpoena them maybe but this is a horrible idea. You want to ruin people's life because they happen to be on the bus. You must have never worked for the federal government or had a security clearance. A mere arrest can ruin your life.

Yeah I see what your saying.

Man ain't that the truth.....truth be told everyone who put a hand on him had a part in killing him.

Re: Autopsy Report: FAMU Death Caused By Hazing, Blunt Force Trauma

Have things changed? When I was in the band, the Drum Major was considered the highest ranking leader in the band, besides the Band Directors. How can the drum major be getting Hazed? WTH? Secondly, how can a 26 year old drum major be getting hazed? WTH? How can anyone get Hazed to ride the damn bus? WTH?

At age 26, not only was I not going to let anyone haze me, but I had out grown all of the hazing in me. I'm just asking how does a 26 year old man let some 18 to 20 year old peers, who report to him HAZE him? Not an excuse for this incident, but things have changed so much that the highest ranking student official in the band is getting hazed by other band members.

Re: Autopsy Report: FAMU Death Caused By Hazing, Blunt Force Trauma

the 26YO thing shocked me too. I'm like he's a late student...but if he's 26 and still wanting to be a drum major...he may have still be in the 19 - 20 mindset. :noidea:

The other thing is if he WAS hazed because of his possible homosexuality--->add HATE CRIME to the list. Y'all have REALLY heated up the pot with that one.

I'm not for putting everybody in jail that was on the bus. I'm never for taking students/kids who've made a mistake and throwing their lives away. It just seems that when hazing deaths happen at PWC, they get the one or two main folks--not the entire fraternity, everybody at the party, the person buying the liquor, etc. We need to be mindful of wasting our own children's lives. Because in the end...Champion was GROWN and HAD to choose to participate...they didn't drag him out the room and make him do this...

I think I read somewhere that Champion spent some time in the military before enrolling at FAMU. So that might be why he's in the band at 26. If that is true, then he's probably used to being hazed or didn't view the practice wrong, considering some form of hazing still goes on in the military from what I understand.

Heck, Oklahoma State's starting QB is 28-years-old. So, it's not usual to see older adults involved in such activities in college.

You know that's no an adequate defense according to the hazing law in Florida. Also, what I have found out is that at some colleges the drum majors "try out." Meaning this guy could have been in the band just recently. But I do agree he was 26 and at 26 I had been coming home to homecoming as an alumni for 4 years...."emlaugh:

I feel you with not throwing our kids life away....but my question to you is how should it be resolved?

You are right at white colleges they get the main people but in this case no one is coming forward with who did what and when.

I just sense this will cause problems to all HBCU Bands.

That's even worse. That a veteran would come home play some silly assed games...to be in a band...:smh:

And I understand about age not being a defense...but damn, it should just be COMMON sense.

How will they handle it? One of two ways: extreme punishment or extreme leniency. Either everyone on that bus goes to jail--and I hope ALL will scream outrage at that suggestion...or everyone gets monitors and home imprisonment because you can't figure out who is all true fault for his death.

I think they need another autopsy by another party. Down side: Who know when they'll be burying Mr. Champion...or if they bury when he'll be dug up again. The family will get paid. So either they'll ask the DA to hurry up, settle the case and get this behind them or intense prosecution will have the family reliving this nightmare by digging up Champions body everytime one goes to trial.

Then it gets messier. The family will eventually start suing the DA and anyone else surrounding the case for constant defilement of the body, mental anguish, blah, blah, blah til, they'll quietly settle these cases...and we'll reopen this thread in about another 3 years for an update.

Wow... I hadn't heard THAT angle.... But that's no outta realm of possibility. And that would only add to the hysteria surrounding it.

Re: Autopsy Report: FAMU Death Caused By Hazing, Blunt Force Trauma

Because no arrests have been made.

What were they going to be charged with? The cause of death was just released over the weekend. If they had arrested someone and the autopsy report came back that he died from a heart attack or some other condition that had nothing to do with the hazing...then what!?!? They would have just arrested folks and had to let them go.

Can y'all let the investigation take place...:smh:

SS, Robert Champion died exactly 1 month ago today. Had someone "talked", even before the autopsy came back last week, someone would have been charged with hazing. Let's be real. Those kids aren't going to talk. They've been walking around for an entire MONTH knowing what transpired on that bus yet chose to remain quiet.

Re: Autopsy Report: FAMU Death Caused By Hazing, Blunt Force Trauma

A 26 yr old MAN was killed.. for the sake of being accepted by his peers... :smh:

Drum major's parents want FAMU president punished in hazing death................Read / Video

By Marcus K. Garner
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

The parents of a Florida A&M University band member who died as a result of hazing want punishment for their son’s death to reach the highest levels.

“Everyone that’s involved,â€￾ Pam Champion said Monday of those responsible for Robert D. Champion’s death. “All the way from the administrator that knew that this culture existed at the school to the organizations, the band, each individual student … everybody that turned their back.â€￾

Re: Autopsy Report: FAMU Death Caused By Hazing, Blunt Force Trauma

CBS Evening News just said about 30 current students and alumni have been questioned in regards to Champion's homicide....

How do you KNOW for a fact that someone didn't "talk" before the autopsy came back?! You make the most ASSumptions.

Those kids talked, everyone in America that watched the news knew hazing was involved. If the investigators wanted to make an arrest I'm sure they could have. Heyal...I heard the rumor as to why Mr. Champion died was b/c he was crossing a bus the SAME NIGHT HE DIED. So if I found out a possible cause of death all the way in IL (the same night he died) don't you think the investigators knew before the autopsy was reported last week?! Don't you think they have reason for NOT making an arrest yet?!?!

Y'all so "smart"...:smh:

Folks on here trying to insinutate there's a code of "no snitching" going on. Really!??! All you gotta do is be friends with FAMU Alumni and other band folks on fb and you know all the rumors swirling around but yet in still there's a code of "no snitching" taking place. That's the worst fugging code of "no snitching" ever!! :emlaugh:

and let's be REAL...if a person was actually on Bus C when Mr. Champion died they should have lawyered up REAL QUICK. They should not have talked considering they could be charged with being involved with his death.

Re: Autopsy Report: FAMU Death Caused By Hazing, Blunt Force Trauma

Well, when a major incident occurs in a town, at a business or a school, everyone associated with those places will be effected by it in some way. At this point, FAMU and everyone who has ties to the school, has to just deal with all the attention, comments and press coverage as best they can until everything dies down.

You spoke about how there are folks at the school who are not supporting hazing or even marching up to the governor's mansion. Well, outsiders will take any perceived overzealous support for the school, band or individuals as not being sympathetic to the kid who was killed.

The same thing happened when Americans saw images on TV of those kids at Penn State rioting and mobs of people hovering outside of JoePa's house engaged in what seemed to be a pep rally after the longtime head coach was fired.

Members of the media and just casual observers branded everyone -- right or wrong -- as caring more about the football team/Paterno than the sex abuse which happened and then was covered up at the school.

That's something you can't control. You personally can't control how others will view the school or the students which attend the school. And that is a horrible position to be in as an alum, current student or an employee. It has to be tremendously frustrating when you know you are just caught up in something you didn't have anything to do with.

As with any situation, the media has the power and resources to report information in a manner that will ultimately influence public opinion.

You're right....I got a phone call that night from 2 kids on the bus and at the hotel. Then one an hour later from alumnae asking if I was aware. I only know of one person that did straight up call their mom and let her handle the legal stand point,.

SS I ain't even goin lie....the police don't know who to charge. I'm not on facebook....but truth be told like I said start charging the entire bus with obstruction of justice or something...
