Ok wise one, you are in the media so tell me this.

Like CD stated earlier, why target Vick instead of the thugs on the streets. Better yet, why is this "national news" instead of the missing black girls that have gone unheard of.

It's a damn animal. He paid for it, he feed it, he can do whatever. I still dont see the FEDS trying to crackdown on real schitt....

Now go fetch my info.

1.The feds are not just targeting Vick. There are three other names on that indictment.
2. We never would have known about this if Vick?s cousin would never have been busted for drugs and police searched the house. They found the dogs by happenstance.
3. Again, I know that missing people is a serious thing, but what does that have to do with Michael Vick and dog fighting?
4.Your last argument is sick. With that logic, you could say a parent could kill his/her kids. Don?t the parents own them? Don?t they pay to raise them? There just kids, right? Just think about that the next time you sit in front of your PC and type something dumb again.

How is the FBI too passionate about this case? I think they would be just as passionate if Vick was not involved. The only reason every network and newspaper in the country is talking about this is because Vick is involved. That?s the world we live in.

I bet none of you would feel the same way about four average black guys or four white guys getting indicted for the same thing. The media would have the story in the paper and on TV, but I don?t think people on this board would be defending those average guys like they are Vick.

please tell me why i would not, and you don't know me so you can't say that i can or cannot. if you go back and read i said he is due whatever he gets if convicted, i am just tired of hearing about it. which goes into why we are hearing about it, because he is high profile. which goes into what is the media regulating. like i said before, this is on nonstop to keep people misinformed about the real issues. if you'd rather sit and listen to whether a man killed a dog all day, on the radio, tv news, cable ticker, papers, then that is you and your intellect, i have a higher level of interest.

It's only dumb to you because you feel like billy bad arse behind a keyboard. Open your eyes to the real world. We want tell yt:lmao:

Again, the feds could be using that man power and funds for something better. The local law enforcement should be handling this case.

An example of how the feds have thier priorty miss up http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/headline/biz/4983825.html

and this my son happen in Russia:lmao:

A dog is a dog...which is an animal. Kill, eat, pet, or whatever. Don't place a dog above human life

so now we're comparing children to dogs? but ole boy typed something dumb? i didn't know there was a place that parents could rent to "own" or purchase their children. ok, thanks for the update. i think i'll stop commenting, don't want the spectators to get my intellect level confused.

I'm tired of hearing and reading about it too and i work in the business. I think the local media and law enforcement is doing a decent job of keeping the people informed about the real issues.

There was this big to-do about illegals facing deportation. Front page every where in the state. Then there were a rash of bank robberies and such. Then there was the whole Blue Cross not renewing their contract to residents in surburban Illinois.

Then there was this trustee who is being sued by residents of his town for running a sports bar. Just some of the issues I cover every day.

He said you have the right to kill/abuse your dogs for any reason just because you own them and pay for their food.

You can adopt kids just like dogs, too. So I guess you can do whatever you want to the kids, too, right?

Why are people making these crazy comparisons just to divert attention away from this case. I hope Vick is innocent, but I'm not going to say the FBI should be doing this or that.

How to do you know what the FBI is doing or not? If you have some suggestions why don't you write them emails and letters. Be as annoying as the PETA people.

yeah but your issues are not on CNN,ESPN,FOX,ABC,CBS,NBC,NPR nor any of the major papers outside chi town.

i don't know why people are making crazy comparisons(kinda like comparing children to dogs), it is rather sad i think.

I'm not a animal rights activist, but I don't think a dog should be shot, slammed on the ground or beat up because it can't win a dog fight.

As for the kid thing, I might have gone too far, but to say a dog should be abused because its an animal is wrong as well.

Have a good weekend...

But, I will say this. If you ever have a chance find you a dog fight and see how involve the owners are. They put in alot of time and effort with these dogs.

I don't think it's right to compare a dog to a child, but on the flip side, I don't think pets should be abused just because you own them. There are laws against that and rightfully so.

Smith believes investigators are trying to turn Vick on others

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Emmitt Smith thinks federal investigators targeted Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick to get to others involved in an alleged dogfighting operation.

"He's the biggest fish in the whole doggone pond right now so they're putting the squeeze on him to get to everyone else," Smith said Saturday.

Vick and three associates are accused of competitive dogfighting, procuring and training pit bulls for fighting, and conducting the enterprise across state lines. Vick is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday in federal court in Richmond, Va.

Smith, who was enshrined in the College Football Hall of Fame on Saturday along with 19 others, was asked what he thought about the Vick situation. He said he believes federal investigators are trying to pressure Vick to turn on the others.

"Now, granted he might have been to a dogfight a time or two, maybe five times, maybe 20 times, may have bet some money, but he's not the one you're after. He's not the one you're after, he's just the one whose going to take the fall -- publicly."

But Smith also placed some blame on Vick, saying athletes need to realize they have to break ties with some people from their past "because where we're going, it's not for everybody to come with us. You have to learn to cut some of those guys loose. Because the things that they do, we cannot do no more."

This is what some of us saying and this is also basically why most people are dissappointed with him.

In the court of public opinion you are guilty by association.

The bottom line is, Vick is a story whether we agree, or disagree. Just like any other celebrity, politician, or popular figure would get if they were in that much trouble, and unfortunately it's not going away anytime soon. America wouldn't care if this was just Vick's cousin involved in this, sure his name would be brought up initially, and when his trial ended, but it wouldn't be an everyday running issue.

Anytime a person of public interest is brought up on charges the public is going to hear about it, unfortunately for athlete's, ESPN thinks that ESPN News, and Sportscenter are serious journalism hubs, and not just sports highlights, and in turn they run with stories, and Vick is no different.

If they can run TO wanting to get out of Philly for 8 months, and follow his every move in those 8 months what did people think they were going to do with Michael Vick? If they were going to run Alex Rodriguez getting out of Texas, going to Boston then to the Yankees for 3 months, why wouln't they give Vick this sort of treatment? If we had to hear about what team Roger Clemens was going to play for everyday since spring training began, up until he signed with the Yankees, then surely you have to know Vick's story isn't going anywhere.

I bring up those examples, because ESPN as well as other media outlets have a way of turning the most simple story into big news, and with Vick's story now being more than a sports story, of course they're going to have a field day with it.

Again, at the end of the day, Michael Vick has only himself to be mad it. If HE didn't give the media something to talk about, he wouldn't be talked about. I know the media can be slanted, and judgemental, but at the same time, when you're in the public eye, the same way they build you up when you're hot, and on top, they'll tear you down just as fast, if not faster than it took them to hype you up. That's why I don't get mad at celebs, and athlete's that chose to stay in the background.

NICE

I think you better play a better card because that one will not win in this game.

This Vick dog fighting scandal runs along the same lines as the whole Don Imus issue.

CBS was not going to fire Imus until all the corporate sponsors started to pull their ads. CBS knew if they kept Imus on the air they would not get any revene.

Businesses don't want people to stop buying stuff from their store in protest of Vick. Those stores want to keep generating money. And if that means bye-bye to Vick merchandise then so be it.

Nike wanted to stay behind Vick, but they realized not very many people were going to buy Vick's shoes while he was caught up in a federal investigation.

Race has nothing to do with this.

other REAL crimes are going on and they waste time and manpower on this

This year alone, the FBI as broken up 7 dog fighting operations and seized drugs, guns and arrested reputed gang members. I would say that's fighting crime.

Crimefighting in the country has not stopped just because Michael Vick has been indicted by the feds.

Just because this story is grabbing most of the headlines, does not mean law enforcement is ignoring crime.

Get a grip, man!

Ok, 7 out of how many?

All I know is that if I'm Mike Vick...I'm turning state's evidence and copping me a deal. The feds is definitely putting the squeeze on him.

His cousins?and to an extent Mike himself ? messed up his money, big time.

I don't see the Vick dogfighting thing as a race issue. Also on that token, Al Sharpton needs to sit his arse down somehwere. He shoulda had his arse in Jena, Louisiana a couple of weeks ago. Now if it was any other high-profile athlete, the four-letter woulda jumped on this just the same. Also, this is the summer, the slowest news period in sports.

Now with Vick..the race card defitiely goes to how they blew up him sticking up his middle finger after the Saints did them in the Ga. Dome. i remember the whole "throat slash" thing when nobody had a problem with it until doped up INT-throwing Brett Favre's arse did it.

Me, being around a couple dogfights myself, knows what goes on. However, I doubt any NFL quarterback ? especially one of the most recognizable players in the whole league ? would have the time and energies left over from football and other engagements to be a big-time player in a multistate dogfighting ring. However, I may be wrong.

:topic: All you people that throw up race card?what the hell you expect when the majority of sports writers (I think 80-85 percent) are white males?

Also...what the hell you expect when most of the major media outlets are owned by three larger companies?

And you serious that race dont have anything to do with this?

Yes. I don't think the feds are targeting Vick just because he is black. There was evidence of dog fighting going on at his own property. They seized 60+ dogs and found dead dogs on his property as well.

People who use the race card in these situations are ignorant. They can't grasp the idea that all law enforcement is not out trying to bring down black men.

I completely understand that racism is still alive and well in the U.S. but not in this situation.

But would you be saying this is about race if Vick was just an average black guy or a white dude?

I 'm the only black writer in the entire county where I work, so I understand that 85 percent you're talking about.

So do you think the media is blowing this up because he is just another black athlete or because he one of the highest-paid players in the NFL?
