what SWAC school wouldnt want him? I have no problem with him except for his attitude saying that he just needed a week... He thinks he can come in in a week and take what others have been working 2 and 3 years for. I would start his ass off at the bottom of the depth chart and he would have to EARN everything.

I think that was a typo in the article. I believe what they meant to type was that he would be there in a week to get acclimated. I don't think he was saying he needed a week to become the starter.

As a general rule of thumb, Big Ten RBs suck.

The kid has 3 years left. GR hopes he get comes in, gets it together and be ready to play in a couple of years.

Dahill

Too bad them Luke boys didnt come in and start right away huh?

Kelcey aint start right away... He was right behind Johnny Keith for more than half of the season.. Nic was simply the best running back we had... He didnt have no choice but to start.

Erik Haw?I have followed the SWAC some, but I have some to learn, I?m sure,? said Haw. ?A lot of people, myself included, are blind to the SWAC until they really do research. There is so much great talent that comes out of this conference. I?m ready to be a part of that.?

At least he did the research.

Im not saying that he isnt good... its that "Im already a starter" mentality that I dont like....Like he is a shoe in for the starting job because of where he came from.

What is there in the article that made you think THAT mentality is present in Haw? Could it be that he is simply confident in his own ability regardless to where he is coming from?

Former Ohio State running back Erik Haw has announced he will play football for Jackson State University this fall.

Haw, who has three years of eligibility remaining, picked the Tigers over UCLA, Arizona State, Rutgers and West Virginia. He will be eligible to play immediately.

JSU snags ex-Ohio State RB

The SWAC aint gon know what hit em!

This kid can play. Just caught up in the numbers game with all the rbs Ohio State has. Not to mention the #1 rb in the nation last year will be a Freshman at OSU. Should be interesting to see. Looks like Comegy done used his old Ohio connections. I will in Columbus this weekend. I will find out the skinny on the kid:tup: . I don't think he was ever a problem kid either. Good pick up.

Not true. Your Cowboys got a good one from Minnesota in Marion Barber. Hell if Jones don't watch it he is going to see the bench. Parcells already likes the Barber kid big time. A little birdie told JR that one. LOL. Also watch Maroney in NE also from Minnesota. A steal for them. Eddie George had a good career and so did Robert Smith. BTW this is college. The Big 10 backs have done their thing in college. We aint talking about all those Penn State and Michigan busts in the NFL. In college they dominated. Kinda like a Duke player in basketball. I can't tell you if Haw will start at JSU but the kid has talent. Ohio State don't recruit rbs that can't play. He just got caught up in a deep backfield with kids who were even more highly recruited than he was. Mr. Ohio and the #1 back in the Nation will suit up this fall at OSU. So the handwriting was on the wall. He was already 3rd or 4th string.

JSU seems to be trying just about anything, is it that bad?:fart:

Why all the hate, PVJaguar? You seem to throw more salt our way than anyone on this board. I would not care if the guy is headed to Jackson State, Southern, or Prairie View, I think it is great that some of these guys are re-thinking their college choices and coming to the SWAC. And just because the kid wasn't starting at Ohio State doesn't mean he won't play well at Jackson State, UCLA, or whatever school he selected. It seems other MAJOR schools saw enough in him to go after him.

And bandfan. You mentioned Brian Darden. He was a top rated back in high school and he did end up playing defense at JSU. Darden went to Tennessee and started there, but was injured quite a bit and just couldn't take the pounding a big-time college RB has to take. He came to JSU for his senior season and was productive here. That's all you can expect. Good production because stars don't come everyday. That's why they are called stars.

He also came back to JSU when we already had a well-establised starter in Destry Wright, the man who broke Walter Payton's JSU rushing record. We already had one of the top backs in I-AA, why not put Darden on defense and get that talent on the field.

Darden came to JSU as a Junior

Dacontinent
YOu have to understand. The way others make themselves feel good is to try and find the negative in everyone else. You wouldnt believe how many fat chicks hate Tyra Banks. Same concept...

JR

GR would take a skilled position player out of the MAC waaaaay before GR takes one from the BIG TEN. Sometimes they do well in college against other BIG TEN teams. Now if yall want to shake some of those Linemen down, we will be happy to take them. If Eddie George is your best RB ever, thats all that needs to be said.

Victor Ike - a PROVEN Big 12 back did nothing in the SWAC....ain't worth getting excited over until they actually perform. Wasn't Brian Darden of JSU a top rated back in high school but ended playing defense at JSU?

Most legitimate transfers who can come in and contribute imemdiately in the past has been quarterbacks, receivers and linemen

Keldrick Williams was able to contribute immediately. And like others said, Darden was a good player for JSU on Defense. He came to us from TN as a DB, we never looked at him as a RB.

There are no guarantees with Haw, but no one can deny he's a great talent. He just got caught up in the numbers game at OSU. They recruit top-tier RBs every year.

Again.....why do we (SWAC/HBCU's) think that we get some reject from a PWC that they are gonna turn our whole program around? Low Selfesteem azz conference.

JSU for all that shat yall talking, yall better win every game this year.

GR, so you want take a Big 10 WR either? Or Dbs? Chris Carter, Joey Galloway, Terry Glenn,Antwann Randle -El, Antoine Winfield,Shawn Springs, Charles Woodson, Jack Tatum, Ty Law, etc.......... all send help. GR you just don't like the Big 10. The SEC has had just as many or more busts as the Big 10 in the NFL. BTW, besides the Qbs and a few WRs in the MAC who would you take at a skill position over a Big 10 player? I will give them Qbs but come on GR you are better than this. When you don't like something you really will not give no credit. Like the SEC has set the standard in the NFL or something. A bust can come from any school. Shid Spurrier sent a ishtload of them to the NFL from UF. BTW, the Big 10 schools have played well against other than each other. This aint your Daddy's Big 10 no more. They have speed now. That Iowa WR is still running free in LSU's secondary now. :lmao:

Dude why do yall argue with Get Ready. The dude has gone plum mad. The video clip should have told yall to only discuss SMACK with him. My signature below shows you how logical he is. Dude you are arguing with Lynch Street, and they lie.

no hate at all on JSU. you guys are just easy bait right now...I wanna see you all make it..but when another SWAC school was doing this same getting players from PWC you guys from JACKTOWN cried foul...so now you guys are the broken wheel on the wagon and trying all the lowly lil tricks that the sisters of the poor have been trying...If you guys go 11-0 this season people are going to say it was expected with all the changes and trash yall talked...if your guys finish under 7-4 some of your Mafia Faitful are going to say that you all should have kept Bell...Bell is starting to make sense when he said what he said about yall not knowing jack about football! :whatever: :whatever:

I can't argue with you on that one. We are all guilty as charged. But I will say this. I think if the kid transfers in right away then he has a legit chance to make an impact. Rarely do the 1 year or 2 year transfers do anything special. Bama State had T Jackson and K. Williams for a minute. They earned their way to starting. We got Hayes in his Soph year and he produced. V. Ike failed because he was overated and had only 1 year to try to do something. Same thing happened at FAMU with the TCU Qb Painter or whatever his name was that played with LT of San Diego. He had one year left. He never fit in at FAMU. The best transfers we had were the ones who came in early on. At least have 2 years left. I think if I was a coach, I wouldn't take a transfer kid with less than 2 years left and would be more apt to take one with 3 to 4 years left. That way he can fit into the system. Just like the Luke boys are doing at A&M. They got them right away.

sorry, but I agree with Sonny.

just because a player (for whatever reason) transfers from a school in a "major" conference doesn't mean he's gonna come in and be all-world in this conference.

This guy has 3 years remaining. With Kennebrew and Rogers on the team, Pittman, Jiles, and Haw will see some action but it won't come easy. Kennebrew and Pittman will be seniors...plenty of time for Haw and Jiles to put in some work at JSU. Remember, we are going back to a spread offense....all of these guys are dangerous in the open field. We also have a scatback that.....well, lets just say, you better not let these guys get one on one with your slow linebackers.

You all ain't saying nothing new. We KNOW that a kid transfering from a 1-A school or JUCO does not mean he is better than a kid on our team already. But I would assume that he is an athlete that can be used on the field. Considering that JSU only had 55 players show up in the Spring, and we only had one or two RB's, we are glad to get Pittman, Jiles, and Haw. ...am I telling too much? :snicker:
