ESPN College Gameday

Before many of you laugh, or scoff at this notion, I have an idea, and I hope you guys give it some thought.

I think the posters on this board, as well as the students of SU, and GSU, should start an e-mail/letter writing campaign to the producers of ESPN's College Gameday, and see if they can do a live telecast for this year's Bayou Classic. If not this year, maybe next year.

With enough e-mails, and letters I think it can be done. Anytime they can do a broadcast for a Bowling Green vs. Northern Illinois game I know they could do one for the BC. I'm more than sure in their summer production meetings, nobody in Bristol, CT had that game on thier radar.

The draw for ESPN would be 72,000 + fans for the game, over 200,000+ for the event that is the Classic, a meaningful game for 2 rivals, and the fact that NBC decides to show the game each year, along with a major sponsor in State Farm, and the fact HBCU's have long placed quality athletes into the NFL, it's about time ESPN took notice.

What do you guys think?

NICE

Like I told you over the phone D. I am down to do this. Lets get it going. Hey they had FAMUs and SCStates bands in the top 10 plays of the week for college football. So someone up in Bristol is paying attention to HBCU games. I think we should try it and see what happens. Can't hurt.

How about putting the letter on site and we can sign our names copy and paste it than pass it on over the net?

This is a great idea. I'm sure the folks at ESPN would love to set up shop in New Olreans. This is the year they need to be there. This one has a shot at the title game riding on it. It is the 30 year anniversary of the BC and well it is one of the most fierce rivalry's in all of college football.

Make sure to get Nita to critique the letter.

Post the email address and lets get something started.

great idea!

I think this is an excellent idea!! In the meantime, while you guys are working on the letter, I?ve contacted a friend of mine who works at ESPN. Actually, I have two friends who work there and one of them graduated from SU, either 1999 or 2000.

At any rate, my first friend told me that they literally plan those trips the week of depending on how intriguing the match-ups will be. I think the letter campaign will push them to seriously consider coming to N.O. I think they need to know that there is a huge HBCU audience. My friend will also ask the coordinating producer what else needs to be done in order to get down there. I gave her the run down of the Classic and that this is a major game. They are going to wonder why they?ve never done this before.

Kiss my butt Suge! Im know you all are talking about having ESPN set up with the college atmosphere and everything, but I thought that most of those games they do that for, they televise themselves.

You sure? They've done Notre Dame home games before...and they are exclusive to NBC.

ESPN College Game Day will do games that are not to be broadcast on ESPN or ABC. When they came to Baton Rouge earlier this year for the LSU/Georgia game, that game was a CBS game.

They have also done games at the service academies the last two years. But those games may have been televised by ESPN/ABC on their regional and pay per view packages.....

Hey it is still worth a shot, if they say no, then they say no....

They haven't done any games

that were broadcast by NBC though, they have done games that were broadcast on ABC from South Bend.:)

I agree. Our chances are slim. You should have NBC due a gameday special. ESPN only does them for their games or ABC games which is their sister station.

That said, a game day at a Black College Football game such as the Bayou Classic would be great.
