Duer Sharp's Incompetence As Commissioner Is Reason For SWAC's Downfall

Now Beans. You know damn well Mighty Dog ain't lying. Most ACADEMIC types do not have athletics at the top of their list. Even the big schools. The President just stays out the way because the Boosters with BIG MONEY at those institutions write the checks. You think LSU or Alabama President has to be worried about athletics? That's why they hire ADs to do their bidding for them.

Our Presidents in the SWAC ain't no different. The only thing they do differently is they like to be SEEN as if they are connected to what we do athletically. Especially ones with fans used to winning like JSU. But if you think the Queen spends sleepless nights worrying about JSU athletics. Then I got some swamp land to sell you. Sure she wants to win and sure she gives her support. All of them do to a certain extent. But you better believe she would rather get some big ACADEMIC donation or raise JSU endowment first and foremost. That's how they make and seal their legacy. Not by the Coaches they hire or how well their sports teams do. It is all about how well they are perceived by their peers in Academia and whether they are on point in that arena.


If you ask any of Presidents would they rather take a million dollar donation to their academic programs or to their sports programs then you will get their answer. The key is just how far down athletics are for your President. Maybe Meyers has athletics at #4 where someone at AAMU may have it at #5 in their top 10 things to do or improve. But any President saying they want their athletics to be in their top 3 goals or priorities at a HBCU needs to have a reality check. Maybe hiring a competent AD is priority. Then that person's job is to have the best athletic program possible. Should not be a President's top 3 priority. Not even at the BCS schools.

1. Academic Enhancement (Growing Programs and Maintaining Accredited Programs)
2. Increasing Enrollment
3. Athletics

Now there are subsections of each of the above but that should be priorities of the HBCU Presidents...in my opinion. Now increasing fiscal capabilities is a subsection of #1.

Hate to tell you but athletics is only one department at a university. You can't have "sub sections" to manipulate your persepctive. :lol: :emlaugh:
 
This is a pie chart of the way revenue looks at a university. Not sure how you make athletics a top 3 priority from this. Looks like this school has a hospital.

System progress card was also developed and presented to the board.

Athletics is a priority. Athletics can be broken down to focus on a number of aspects i.e. sub-sections.:shame::smh:

I never said it wasn't "a priority." It's just not where you would like it to be in most HBCU president's mind. :lol: :emlaugh:

Those are some very harsh words coming from this Avis Heath fella. I can only wonder how much studying he has done of other commissioners to label Sharp as "the most incompetent in the history of organized sports". Me thinks it is easy and convenient to blame everything on the commissioner. But he is not involved in the day to day functioning of our schools. He is not involved in coaching, recruiting, game day decisions. When we're looking to play the blame game, as this Avis Heath fella is, Sharp aint the only one in line to play. IMO, he wouldn't be an early first round draft pick either. :scared:

btw, if my recollection is correct (and it is), this Avis Heath fella is the same one who went on a similar diatribe against a previous SWAC commissioner.

hornet does the president or AD of this Avis Heath affiliated school even know his name or face in a crowd to discuss anything about what it take to operate an athletic dept let along a whole conference!
