Dowell Taylor is the man!

I heard dowell taylor is regarded! as the best arranger & director in the swac now. If he wrote that blurred lines arrangement. ...then I know he a beast...it sounds better than the damn song & that ending..my god. Now..I liked dr. Liddell he did good things too...but it seems taylor is more of a all around..& arranging and field.type super director... He had only been back at jsu director for two yrs...& they drill,look & sound damn good... since 2000....in my opinion...major improvements! Keep up the
good wrk staff & boom! cant wait for jsu vs su 2013!

Liddell was best when he had a good team. When he had Magruder and Adams (2 great arrangers) and Duplessis (Drillman) he was fine. Magruder and Adams are both head directors at other institutions and Duplessis retired. All of that was late 90's early 2000s. Arrangements got sloppy gradually and so did marching / drilling. Liddell was always more of an administrator. And his real love was symphonic band. Taylor seems to be much more of a marching band director. He seems a lot more focused and hands on. I do think he has a couple of good young arrangers around him now. The arrangements have been getting slowly better got the past three or four years. But he is probably the sole reason for cleaning up the marching, drilling, and field shows. And the biggest influence on tightening up the sound. He's got them going great right now.

Liddell's band was Student lead that's why they were not as polished as Taylor's.
Taylor is hands on like jaydog said. The kids pretty much ran everything under Liddell from arranging to running their own practice. Of course this happened once Liddell became to old. That's when things became sloppy & unorganized because he had some sorry directors up under him. Which is why neither were capable or qualified to become head BD.

Sad to say; although there were some rough years (for boom's standards) they STILL ran through the SWAC. That's the sad part. I think that's why so many people hated the Boom lol They just couldn't understand how that unorganized and student ran band could kick ass on any given Saturday. It still amazes me.

As far as Taylor. He's doing a great job. His team is great also. I can see a certain somebody taking over the boom after DT steps down.

Well..whomever wrote blurred lines....great job!!! Is Dowell Taylor writing or have written anything new then...I know he is a beast on arranging. ..I know some of his past music...so I know..he is one of the few..that can shut haymer down..lol.

You know, I had a feeling he didn't. I wonder if he's done any arranging at all right now, other than bringing out some of his older stuff. I didn't want to bring that up and disturb the D. Taylor lovefest though, lol!

I'm loving the Boom and can't wait to see them in Memphis! (but this is a prime example of what we talk about all the time lol).

Well I hope Dowell starts back arranging ....because...he is greatness on that. He also a good drill guy. Be nice to hear a new ballad from talyor vs haymer. Classic

TP I can give a flying F*** about the boom or what you think. Just like anyone else on here, if I know then I will comment. Therefore if you dont like what I say then either ignore my comments or just keep strolling the hell down. U mad cause I know more than you or someone?! U might wanna ask who I am at ur beloved school and etc!!!!
