Doug Williams' Future At Grambling In Doubt?

I say again.

Louisana has the most fugged up college system I have seen. Too many hands in individual college business. Outside of the College Board here in Mississippi, each school controls their own faith. As long as the I's are dotted and T's are crossed, the college board is not going to look in your direction. They take over when a PRESIDENT is being chosen.

Once a decision is made on a coach, the college board basically rubber stamps these hires. It is up to the school how much money they will pay a coach over what they give you in the budget. The only limit the college board set here is contracts can't run past 4 years before they come up for renewal.

At Mississippi State and Ole Miss for example, the state only pay those coaches $250,000. The rest of that $3 million plus salary comes from private donations. I honestly don't think Comegys STATE salary that comes out of JSU's budget even tops $100,000. The rest of that $165,000 come from private donations.

Yeah some of your high profile alums are subsidizing Comegy's salary. At one point I remember it was 50-60K that came from your alums and the rest from JSU. But all states are like that frat. Even though Jindal is crazy. We just spend too much money on coaches. I can understand where any Gov is coming from. If ULL is only paying 100K of their coaches salary and their alums make up the difference then so be it. I think that's all the state of La is saying. Jindal is an arse to the HBCUs for sure in the state. But what we have to realize is we can't pay these coaches that kind of salary. Les Miles salary mostly comes from them rich mofos who are in that TAF. Gram can pay Doug what they want. UL Board is just saying they aint going to foot the whole bill. Like Mike Bigg said, the Gram alums will have to step up to the plate to pay Doug or he will have to take what is authorized by the board. SU needs to look at our salaries too. Our board doesn't need approval from the state on our coaches. But we still need to be fiscally smart and not overpay for folks. Just my opinion.

Baptist preachers ofttimes say "If you can't say Amen, then say 'ouch' ". I'm gonna say Amen and Ouch! Amen because you're preaching truth and ouch because you're all over my toes, too!

Too long, we have allowed Grambling to be dependent upon what we've been given by the state. This is a wake up call, but we're continuing to hit the "snooze" button. Sleep on at our own peril.

Time for MB to step to the plate...$83.33 per pay period means $2000 to my alma mater. Yep... $1000 to Athletics and $1000 to College of Business (with 3 to 1 match from Exxon). I need my azz whupped, this should have been done on the regular a long time ago. Damn shame it takes Piyush putting his bony foot up our azz to wake me up!

Preach MB. Same for all our schools. These states aint about to fund us like they used too. Remember we gave TBF isht when he said that SU and Gram benefited from things in La that Texas didn't allow. Well now that Jindal character is doing like his other Republican states. You got to fend for yourself. Our HBCUs are at a crossroads. Either we as alums going to have to step up or we will fall way behind and none of these states with these Republican Govs are going to help us. The days of Edwin Edwards is gone in La. Where everybody got a piece of the pie. LOL.

At least you were in a position to discover this and then do something positive about it. Esp the corporate match perk. :read:

Hopefully some are beginning to see why I've been so freaking critical lately of PV folx who do nothing and have done nothing but wanna' party/drink whatever it is they do/did BUT do anything of substance to actually support the school (athls <b>and</b> academics).

Athls here is a non-state supported entity. It's self-supporting so if the members don't support it, we get a dilapitated stadium that realistically seats 3200 people, no semblance of a "good" bathroom, zero concession stand :smh:, and SRO for all to witness a game. It's really a damned shame.

Yep.
JSU didn't raise the coaches pay from $85,000 until Bells first year in 2003. Before that, all head coaches at JSU got $85,000 at a time when people started throwing money at HBCU coaches like water in the 1990's. We had one of the lowest paid coaching staffs on any D1 campus until 2003.

I don't see JSU giving JSU head coaches a big bump in salary no time soon. The best they will get is a cost of living increase just like all other state workers. Only difference is the coaches can get their cost of living increase thru donations. Us REGULAR EVERYDAY state workers have not had any state raises since 2004.

Good stuff MB! If all alums follow your suit, we would be in a great situation. Throw in a planned gift and we got it made. I was talking to the Vice Chancellor of Advancement at the University of Arkansas yesterday and I got a little upset thinking about HBCU fundraising when he told me the state only gave U of A $121 million last year, but fundraising from alums and corporations was also $121 million. He bragged about how big of a deal that is for a small, poor state like Arkansas could be in the top 5% in higher ed fundraising. Yea Walmart, JB Hunt, and Tyson being in your backyard helps, but corporations only accounted for less than 10% of that 121 mil SMH I know we talk about this all the time, but just think if SWAC alums did that what we could do. I too wish we would "wake up:". I refuse to believe the research claims that HBCU alums make less money than PWI grads. We just don't give back to show what we make. Good post MB, dang good post.

Thanks...it was goog talk, but unless I followup on it then it's just rhetoric. Gonna followup!!!!!

Unlike us, the other schools fund their own programs...academics and athletics. It's gonna take more than season ticket sales to offset the state cuts being made. We need major Alumni giving back campaigns and (Thanks Founder) more emphasis on getting funding for Research by our Academic body!
The state also does things to help them, like LSU scheduling northwestern and mcneese in football, giving them huge payouts.

Doug wants his money. So, let me get this right. Essentially, Doug isnt under contract because the officials at GSU never sent his paperwork in to be official. So Doug is basically working from the kindness of his heart and Kenn wants him fired. Wow!!!

I can see Doug leaving if there is protests about his son not starting. If his son doesnt play, then he walks since he's (technically) not under contract.

The contract was sent...apparently it was rejected by the ULS board.

Another dumb embarrassing statement by a Gramblinite. Pogue drew up the original contract that was signed by himself (Pogue), Dawson sorry azz, and Doug. Pogue failed to submit it to your daddy (ULS). Dumb shit. Somebody need to be slap.

Out of respect to Kenn and because you are a Gramblinite I will not respond to your statement. Just know I am at all the football games so as far as your action I am readily available.

How was it a blank check if he actually signed a contract that had financial terms?

I think you missed the point....the thing is Doug can stay at Grambling really as long as he wants. Doug can have the length of time at GSU that Coach Rob had. Yet, Doug's contract will be under scrutiny.

Some Grambilinites feel we are LSU and this clouds their judgement. We do not have the sellout games like the late 80s and early 90s. The student population is not at 9,000 like it was when I was a freshman in 1992. Furthermore, the instability of university Presidents and a Governor who would love to see Grambling closed does not help. So some Gramblinites chose use idle threats against other Gramblinites instead of placing differences aside to resolve the problem.

He is currently an at will employee receiving a base salary of $225,000...paid monthly.

Basically. I think Doug understands and the media is hyping this up. The sad part is some Gramblinites are falling for bull crap printed by the News Star. This paper refused a letter to the editor about the treatment of GSU supporters at the ULM game...so that should give you an example of the biased manner of the paper. But keep following print media that means Grambling no good.

Oh, ok. Cause the way it sounded was like the State didnt agree to pay him, so......

But that explains that part. So, how long can you stay employed with the State as an "At Will Employee"? Isnt there a time limit? Didnt know Louisiana was an "at will" state as for as employment like Georgia is.

And if I'm not wrong, I believe an "at will" employee can be fired anytime without real justification and does not have a back leg to stand on. That is how it is here in Georgia. And I'm strictly talking him not having his contract approved by the ULS.

He can stay as long as the President or AD wants him there. The problem no is that incentives for winning games will be difficult. I'm just sick of people reading this biased ass print media and taking for full value. The New Star does not give shit about GSU.

So basically, if I get this right, the only difference between having your contract approved by the ULS and not having it approved is whether or not you get incentives for winning games? Right? Or is it alittle more than that?

Don't tell me you received a midnight phone call with a disguised voice on the other end.

So much so that they once promoted a guy (imo) partly because as a beat writer he was giving Grambling too much coverage. When he freelanced on the side and had his own coverage of Grambling, they really shiit their pants!

Say Founder... did you check out my status on FB and a post I put on the Mighty Grambling Tiger Football team page? "Show Your Class" Campaign...Every Gramblinite send in a one time donation corresponding the year they graduated would be a quick infusion of cash. For me it would be $19.77... Now imagine a that became a regular (every pay period) thing for a large number of us!

MAn they in the Open. lol Tgee said he gone Slap Founder for saying doug shouldnt get a Blank Check... lol

Dayam. :emlaugh:

*makes instant haste to buddy up w/ TGEE since he whoopin' everybody's azz over Doug  *
