Wlliams talks roster, staff

Returning Grambling coach Doug Williams said he's still in the process of determing some personnel decisions, but he had a few early answers after his official hiring Wednesday.
The only coaches retained from 2010 will be interim head coach Andre Robinson and defensive coordinator Cliff Yoshida.
Robinson, the Tigers' linebackers coach, will be rewarded for his interim work with the position of assistant head coach, Williams said.
Offensive coordinator and recruiter Bob Leahy will not be retained.
Former Grambling players Sammy White and Ezill Bibbs will rejoin the Tigers as wide receivers and defensive line coaches, respectively. C.C. Culpepper ....

I think Doug is going to redshirt Doug Jr. from what he said in another interview.

"I'm not looking to play him this year,'' Williams said. "He needs a little work. He needs to get bigger. He's long, 6-4, 190-pounds, a little bigger than Josh Johnson. I asked him could he handle it, he told me yes. That's all I've got to know. A man's word is his bond.''

Even though I'm from PV, I must say this is pretty cool. Is this the first father/son combo at the same position in an HBCU?

Yes prolly, at the same school. Eddie Sr. was a quarterback tho at Leland College(defunct)in the Late 30's-early 40's and Jr. played QB at Grambliing in the 60's.

Actually, this might not even be the first time at GRAMBLING. Coach Fred Collins, Sr who played and coached for Coach Eddie Robinson was (I believe) a linebacker and his son Fred Collins, Jr. also played Linebacker for us in the late 90's. Now that I think of it... When I was an undergrad in the 70's, we had a DE named JD Holmes from Jonesboro who was a 3 year starter...his son, DeCarlos Holmes played DE for us during the end of Coach Rob's tenure. Levi Washington, Sr and Levi Washington, Jr both played for us...not sure if Levi, Sr. played wide receiver. I think he was a defensive player. Then there's the Guidry's ...George Sr and George Jr...from Lake Charles, La. Not sure if Sr. played Linebacker but his son did.

Lest not forget that Jefferson Street Joe played under his father at Tnst, Joe Sr. played at Indiana U. before transferring to West Va State U. Both played quarterback. I realize the situations are different tho.

Hey can anyone from Grambling shed some light on this rumor? We hear that Vyron Brown, who Alcorn just hired as OC, is now coming to Grambling since Doug is there. Is there any truth to this?

I love UAPB with all my heart, but I'd be dumber than a box of rocks if I didn't admit this is good for Grambling. I know the GSU administration, faculty, staff, student body, alumni, fans and supporters are probably going crazy waiting for Fall 2011. Congratulations Grambling.........I knew you had the ultimate "ace" up your sleeve!:)
