Don't Blame Black Athletes For Going For The Money

I don't blame Reggie Bush, nor do I blame his parents for trying to get all they can get while they can get it.

I don't blame Terrelle Pryor for getting all he can get while he can get it.

The NCAA is one of the most racist institutions in this nation and should be called out for it.

He also makes this clear and interesting point when it comes to the NCAA's lack of regard for hiring minority coaches: "There are 117 colleges participating in Division I-A football and there are only three black head coaches.

You don't have to be too smart to know how stupid this looks. Let me lay it out for you:  Fifty percent black athletes leads to 25 percent black assistant coaches leads to 3 percent black head coaches.  Fifty percent white athletes leads to 75 percent white assistant coaches leads to 97 percent white head coaches."


To the Black athlete....GET ALL YOU CAN WHILE YOU CAN!!!
 
Damn right u better get all you can. As long as the presidents and the coaches are getting all they can, why shouldnt the athletes??
 



That's why I really don't give to much of care for them schools... and will never support a black kid going there.. I BEEN woke to this shyt.. call me racist all you want... but they need to bring there azzes to HBCUs.. jmo

Well, unless HBCUs are offering the same things those BCS schools are offering, then it will be hard to believe kids make a move like that.

But I agree with the tenor of the thread, though. Everyone is making money off these kids why should they get some of it to. Reggie Bush getting extra benefits had nothing to do with USC beating the breaks off Boomer Sooner.

HBCU have to make themselves more attractive to kids and stop sitting there saying "we are HBCUS and YOU come to us instead of US come to you." Like I have been saying you have to make HBCUs attractive to kids starting in elementary school not when they are in high school and every PWC has already got them.

As for Bobby Bowden-tell him to start naming some black assistant coaches that are ready to be head coaches and when jobs become open-mention thier names on ESPN.

Also start telling black players to RESPECT black men in charge-including the ones that won't cater or cheat for them like thier white counterparts tend to do.

Funny how black players can't play well for a black coach and suddenly can play for a white one-see Texas A&M, Dallas Mavericks, Detriot Pistons, Unversity of Houston and others.
 
It may not be about Black coaches, it may be more about what the school has to offer. If Ohio State or Michigan had a Black coach, I don't think that would stop players from going.

By whose standards is it right or wrong? The NCAA's? Is it right for coaches to earn 2-5 million dollars a year, yet the player can't be allowed to get a hundred dollars from a donor? Is that right?

The seed is planted when our black athletes are young. I saw a high school Football game where the coach and most of his assistants was white, but most of the players were black, and of course the QB was white because he is the only one smart enough to lead his team. Want to break the cycle, get our players while they are young.

You make a good point.

Also, blacks will not go to HBCU's because they will ask, what can you give me and will not ask, will my child graduate in 4 years?

While that's all true in principle, you can't sign up to participate in a system knowing the rules and then choose to disobey the rules you don't like.

There's a way to do things in a private way. What law can stop one from giving money to a person of one's own choice? How corrupt is it to not allow a person to give his money to someone if that's what he chooses to do?

The NCAA is so corrupt to the point that I'm wondering why the federal government hasn't become involved. It's really a disgrace and a mockery of justice to thousands of players whose hands are tied by such corruption.

I hate to say it Juke. Even they did come and we had the power........we would be just as corrupt. Hell we see how our schools are being run into the ground now. Can you imagine our previous AD with the money and power of LSU or Ohio State. We got crooks too. Just being real. As long as big money is involved you will see corruption from any race, creed or nationality. All you have to do is look at the rest of the world to see it. Money corrupts. Look at our Black Ministers. Them coming to HBCUs will not save them if they want money.

They would if we had the same thing to offer. I think they would. Meaning being on TV, playing for National Championships and getting them to the NFL or NBA. Yeah they would come.

Made an addition to your quote. It makes me sick to hear some of these presidents speak as well as the BCS Commissioner say stuff like "the government has more important things to worry about". That may be true, BUT at the same time, he is really saying "you see we got a good thing going for ourselves. Dont come sniffin around and messin it up"...

Even when corrupt folks make the rules? When coaches, schools, hotels, fuel stations, restaurants, local businesses are getting millions off the backs of players, yet the same player can't be given ten dollars to buy himself a meal or sell his own jersey for a 100 dollars, do you seriously think that's a form of fairness?

I guess none of us ever took any paper or paper clips from work eventhough we didn't pay for them.

Maybe not, but choosing to break the rules isnt the answer. When you do that, don't you become just as "corrupt" as the "corrupt folks who make the rules"?

The signings for cash, which would be a violation of NCAA rules, occurred a minimum of 35 to 40 times, netting Pryor anywhere from $20,000 to $40,000 that year, the former friend says. The source spoke to ESPN under the condition that his face not be aired on TV and that his name not be published.

He said Pryor was paid $500 to $1,000 each time he signed mini football helmets and other gear for a Columbus businessman and freelance photographer, Dennis Talbott. Talbott twice denied to ESPN that he ever paid Pryor or any other active Buckeye athlete to sign memorabilia.

What state rule are they breaking? What FEDERAL laws are they breaking? Is Terrelle Pryor going to jail for voluntarily accepting money from folks who wanted him to have it?

If someone offers you money out of the goodness of their own heart, as a poor 20 something year old, you tell me you wouldn't take it, especially if it's legal to do so?

The bottomline is the NCAA don't want to start paying players period, so they've come up with THEIR OWN LAWS/penalties separate from local, state and federal laws, strictly banning any kind of gifts players can receive.
Nevermind how much money those players are bringing to the schools. The NCAA is a billion dollar cashcow, the powers that be know it and they dare not ruin a good thing by opening up this "pay-the-players" gig.

Behind closed doors, they're laughing all the way to the bank because they know it's a sham.

Breaking NCAA rules. And if they want to play, they have to play by those rules.
What you're suggesting is that they "the black athletes" break the rules, get whatever they can get, and in the process they'll be ineligible to play. How is that the answer?

When a person breaks a law that he feels is trully rooted in unfairness and injustice, he is showing the greatest respect for the law.

How unfair and unjust is it to have the opportunity to receive a FREE college education, FREE room and board, no fees, access to other benefits, to play a game?
Since we're talking about Terrelle Pryor, that opportunity at Ohio State is worth over 100K.
