Does Iraq have US forces outnumbered in Bagdad?

Reports are that their are 6 Iraqi divisions of the Republican Guard protecting Bagdad. A division is anywhere from 10K-16K soldiers. Lets say their divisions are 13K. That would work out to 78K Iraqi soldiers defending Iraq.

How many divisions of allied forces are closing in on Bagdad? 2? (3rd ID and now maybe the 4th ID?) That's only 32K roughly,,, but there are 250-300K allied forces committed to Iraq?? My knee-jerk is that U.S. forces will be significantly outnumbered going into Bagdad. Am I missing something here? Someone help me out with the numbers.

The numbers I have heard are around 70000 Republican guard, Plus an undetermined number of Army regulars. I think we hav3 the 3rd ID, and the Marines from the 2nd and 15th Marine. the 4th ID was trying to come thru Turkey, but the couldnt.

The equalizer is that Iraq has zero by way of air force. The question in my mind is will the civillians take up arms in defense of the city. If they do, its gonna be about 5 million against whatever we have.

You are overlooking the air support that we have bart. The main reason we are bombing the crap out of Bagdad is in preparation of the ground attack. Plus we have one division on the way, but many more are going to follow. The 3rd infantry is just the spear head.

Yeah, the purpose of the air attacks was to minimize the # of ground troop causilties. I heard there are plans to drop thousands of ground troops by air once we get closer.

Ok, do any of you realize that the U.S. has not really bombed Baghdad yet. It may sound stupid but take into consideration how Baghdad was bomb before the ground war in 1990 and 1991. They bomb sites in Baghdad for 2 months before the ground war even started.

If it was me I do unrestrcited bombing of Iraq. Right now it is completely restricted.

War is stupid. Its like getting into a fight as a kid, but you can't hit your opponent in his right ear.

Majority of Iraq's military are based in places that is off limits to air strikes (schools, churches, aiports, etc). Once the troop do finally make it to Bagdad, they still will not be able to fight because the Iraq military will use its own civilians as shields.

I say level one school with a nice bomb and go on with the war. Mean huh? Well what are our options? Let someone's American dad die because he can't shoot a school filled with Iraq children and military.

War is like a fight to me, AIN'T NO RULES. Catch a prisoner, shoot em up his azz.
