I didn't know "thug" = knowing what you're talk'n about....

If that's the case...then, Im claim'n THUG LIFE!, fool...

Thug Life for me too, but like I said in another post on the Sports Board, some people can't tell difference between the truth or a lie OR a man from a woman. Some folks are definitely oxymorons, such as Gay Internet Thugs.

You know you are clueless about Brass Bands if you haven't heard of the term Second Line. I suggest you read up on it before you make anymore comments.

Here's a little help:

History of the Second Line
Thanks for the history lesson. That was enlightening. I try to stay far away from New Orleans culture. It is a very strange place and I have no desire at all to go there again.

However, that does not preclude my understanding of the genre and how it is performed.

Only explanation is you from Jsu....bless your heart man...
Its alright to be ignorant...but right now you are choosing to be...that ain't good ..

And I'm sure there are many folks saying the same thing about your strange azz little culture.

Cmon on now, that had a little heat behind that comment. I always get a good vibe when I visit the Big Easy.

Really, who gives a sh!t how dacontinent feels about New Orleans culture. Maybe he should take his azz to Gay Azz Atlanta if that's more his culture.

Like the song Rebirth Brass Band from NEW ORLEANS say, "DO WHATCHA WANNA GOT DAMMIT".

You should know me better than that by now.

I have only been to New Orleans once. The music and the food are fabulous. I have a number of good friends who live there. However, it is a city with a great deal of mysticism. Driving in from the airport and passing all of the cemeteries with the raised crypts (yes, I know about the water table) was very different, but I understand it. But, all of the celebration of the dark arts just turns me off.

Different strokes for different folks. It's just not the place for me ... neither are ATL nor NYC.

Raised caskets/crypts in S. Louisiana is the norm. You really sound stupid right now. Quit watching scary movies and grow the fcku up. Man this guy is really sad.

Like my grandfather would always say, "it's not the dead you have to worry about, it's the live ones", because he never read in a newspaper that a dead person has come back to kill someone, but he would always read about a live SOB killing someone.

I don't watch scary movies. Never found them appealing. I will make no excuses for how things "sound". It's just a place that I don't care for. Other people think its wonderful. I get that. There are plenty of people who don't like where I live in FL. That's fine also.

I love Madrid but don't like Paris (people) or Amsterdam (culture). Tokyo is intriguing, but I wouldn't want to live there because there's far too much concrete. Does that really mean that I am immature or that I just have personal preferences?

Like the title of this thread, "DO WHATCHA WANNA".

:retard:Man i stopped listening to anything the Dacon had to say as soon as he said he's only been to N.O. once. How can you fully understand a genre of music without actually experiencing the culture live. Thats like me living Louisiana but I go to California to see what real Second Line music is about....oh im sorry, he don't even know what second line is.:shame:

Dacon, jazz music and brass band second line music is not the same thing and i truly hope you are not thinking of it as one in the same.

Second line Brass Band Songs really don't do justice for anybodies band outside of Louisiana.

Much has to do with the Crowd Interaction with the band... That's what Second Line Jazz is about.

Second line music is a genre within the jazz idiom. Understanding the culture always helps in the study of music. Thankfully, I don't have to travel back in time to 1450 to understand Renaissance music or to 1600 understand Baroque music. By the same token, it would be better for me to spend some time in Nawlins to understand Second Line music ... but I won't be doing that. I will just lean on you natives to teach me.

Now you talkin.....let us teach you the way..

Did you know since you left JSU there band has been playing second fiddle to SU for the longest..... your old school learned of this and was tired. Of SU getting all of the attention whenever the two of them would enter any room..... so the changed their style after 99 ( my last rip) punished jsu royally twice in one year.... the last time was the straw that broke Bluto's back....he went and cussed out all of his woodwind players and then vowed to try to be more brass heavy for now on... he didn't give 5 taps of fvk about his piss poor arrangements... he then created a list to be played in the 5th... the drum major dared not break Blutos rule..."follow the list he said"..... that often meant if SU played a classic that left the crowd in complete AWE Bluto was sure to come back with ..."its raining men or swoop"..I'm sorry I'm talking to a jsu alum..let me capitalize that..SWOOP!!

I ain't going to even get started on the marching....

Brother please continue to let us teach you...

Ps- I didn't know it was a straw that broke Bluto's back. I thought it was the full 45 degree tilt of his brim.

Why are you frontin'? We have discussed this at length in other threads. I whole-heartedly agreed with you. Since you went there...

It is most certainly true that JSU abandoned its identity as a marching band under Liddell in favor of the SU model. A horrible mistake. It is one of the few things in life that would make me want to be a band director - just to go back and take that job. It is not enough to make me leave what I do now, so I am stuck waiting for someone to come along with the guts to take us back to what made the Boom great.

No, I don't like SU's instrumentation and its paired arranging style - but I respect it because it does certainly work for SU. I would not want the Jukes to change a thing because it is THEIR STYLE. The Jukes also march better (year in, year out) than any other HBCU in the SWAC/MEAC (they are the only ones I give my attention).

My mantra to all band programs: do what you do and do it better than anyone else. The result is that you will always be the best.

I know man I just wanted to hear a qualified jsu bandmember speak the truth again..

That was refreshing..

Ahhhhhhh
:)

Man, you are just like those Grambling folx who will kiss SU's butt until SU tells you that they don't like you anyway. All the mess SUtrp talks is like SU today is like SU was in 1999. All this stuff he talks about when it comes to the stands, only 2% of the audience cares. The other 98% saw SU gets waxed and outperformed in Jackson and in Bham in 1999. No one can deny the volume SU had back then. It was great but most people only care to be entertained at halftime. We still wax SU at halftime and dude gets mad when people call the stands even because SU wants sooooooo badly for people to think they are better than JSU. Not happening! Since someone at JSU snapped for being overpowered by SU, who snapped at SU and had them to add more woodwinds to sound more like JSU? I never get an answer to that question.

For you to make that statement shows how much you know about bands period. I think its pretty much a consensus on this board, as well as others, about what happened in 99 both times and it was clearly SU by a mile. Many JSU posters have pointed this out in the past so no need to rehash that.
