Do the right thing Duer

Once a player signs a schollie, his APR graduation clock starts ticking for that school and sport. He can transfer to LSU and graduate but that won't do shat for the school that signed him to a schollie first. He will count in the total when his 4 years are up.

That is what happened to us. A few didn't go to class, Players got ran off before they graduated, and too many JUCOs/Transfers were comming in, using up their 2 years of playing time, and then leave campus without graduating.

APR has very little to do with graduation. Any player on your team counts for APR. If he leaves your school in good standing you don't get hit as hard as if he leaves as an ineligible player. The next school he attends has the same stipulations. Kids must remain academically eligible in order for schools to avoid penalties.

You described the graduation rates, and they give you 6 years, not 4.

Nope, that decision has already been made. Get over it and work to lessen the chances of it happening again.

:smh::smh:

You can tell they haven't won in a while. Hell if they didn't do it for JSU in football why do it for SU in basketball. They need to stop all that whining and deal with it like everyone else did.

Okay the difference in all of this is that the football post ban was given by the SWAC Conference & presidents (although it they would have been ban if we were in a playoff system)...as for basketball, Southern you all knew this happen 8 months ago and no one bother to submit a waiver until "Oh snap we have a pretty good basketball team I think we should now try to do something to get back into tournament"now...Well guess what the Conference still voted you out of the Conference tournament and without that you still in the same place...Someone with real knowledge correct me if I am wrong on this situation.

Now you know our AD (after dark) was to busy trying to get him some texas pussy to file a wavier.

BTW I thought they didn't ban either basketball team from the SWAC tournament?

Wasn't that a topic of discussion on how crazy the whole decision was?

Thats what I thought reading this thread. I remember people arguing about "WHAT IF" Gram or SU win the torunament and can't go to the NCAA big dance because of the post season ban. :noidea:

We're definitely banned from the tournament. Kendrick's article is misleading...

Teams with low APR scores can compete, just not the teams that have postseason ban penalties in effect. SU and Gram have postseason bans due to multiple years of low APR scores. A team that has a low APR score for 1 or 2 years more than likely has not hit the penalty level that requires a ban.

And the new rule won't go into effect this year.

nope, when those sanctions were originally announced, the basketball ban for SU and Gram was definitely included. Nobody really talked about it, probably because, unlike the SCG, nobody would (or should) argue that the SWAC basketball tournament is not a post-season event.

If the NCAA grants SU the waiver why wouldn't the SWAC let them in the tourney?

If SU gets the waiver and the SWAC rules no I'm filing a lawsuit on that azz if I'm Chancelor Llorens.

I'm still waiting on an answer for this question...

I thought the whole premise for the SWAC rule was based on the NCAA's decision. IF the NCAA bans a team then according to SWAC rules, b/c of the NCAA ban then that team can't participate in SWAC post-season play as well (even thought it's not NCAA tournament).

Well IF the NCAA grants a waiver and lifts the ban on post-season play...why wouldn't/shouldn't the SWAC lift its ban?

Why aren't the two connected? Yeah it's a lot of "if"'s but this entire thread is based off "if's" so kick rocks!

The presidents voted to ban us, so Duer would have almost no control if the NCAA grants the waiver. The presidents would have to come together to vote on whether they should lift the ban. If the NCAA did grant the waiver, the presidents would have no grounds to keep the ban in place.

But I still hope the NCAA ban REMAINS.

OK..............
So since the SWAC takes 8 teams, basically the whole conference , with Gram and SU out, everybody is battling to stay out of 7th and 8th place and a meeting with the #1 and #2 team in the 1st round.

Thanks for answering me...

Like I said on page 1...I hope the NCAA grants the waiver!!

Nope... Let's be Consistent. JSU was banned from the "postseason" SCG so SU and GSU has to deal with the consequences of our APR issues as well.

I don't know why folks are thinking this will change

Consistency??? Last march JSU received a waiver from the NCAA.

That waiver was for them to continue to play and not a waiver from the post season banned which came out in May.

This stuff is amazing at best. The fallout would be to great. When did they move to tournament to Arlington?
Where have you been the last 16 months? The tournament was held in Garland last year and will be there again this year.

The National Collegiate Athletic Association has banned a record eight teams from postseason play because of their athletes’ poor academic performance — the most since the academic penalty system was first used two years ago

The men’s basketball team from Grambling State University and the men’s basketball and football teams from Southern University at Baton Rouge are the first HBCU teams to receive one-year postseason bans because of their low APRs

I don't know where this waiver stuff is coming from, there is no way to get a waiver for this type of banning. For you to reach this level you had to have been below the APR mark for several years and did not make any progress in raising the scores from year to year.

But this is just more.......

I don't know about that MH. I distinctly remember a big discussion about that on the board and kenn or his cousin soggy was particularly peed off about the inconsistency.

"Android" The peoples champion

OK we stated it wrong, the issue was not that they were banned from post-season play (The NCAA had already done that, not the SWAC) but that they are eligble to play for the regular season title whereas the football teams weren't.

I forgot about the bans to Gram and SU. So, JSU's basketball team will make it to the tourney, regardless???

All 10 SWAC teams now qualify to go to the tournament. (SU and Gram's men teams are banned for APR). But there will be 10 womens team playing.

blue,
Kenn was "playing" with the wording of the ban, by wrongly (IMO) suggesting that the SCG crowned the "regular season champion in football, but make no mistake, that ban was definitely implemented for football and basketball.

I think its a great decision. One that was long overdue. I have posted for years about that. They finally heard me. LOL!

but here is the official swac statement when the announcement was originally made from swac.org.

Release: 06/09/2011

June 9, 2011

Birmingham, Ala. - The SWAC Council of Presidents and Chancellors voted Thursday to adopt a league policy to prohibit any member institution subject to NCAA postseason bans to include SWAC championships and tournaments. The policy is effective immediately.

Currently, the policy prohibits Southern and Jackson State from being eligible to participate in the 2011 Farmers Insurance SWAC Football Championship, and it prohibits the Southern and Grambling State men’s basketball teams from participation in the 2012 Farmers Insurance SWAC Basketball Tournament.
