Dear OPRAH.

:goof: SCREW YOU!! :goof:
Go ask your white women, black manhaters, and the few limp wrist male fools that cowed down to your garbage on FREE TV for all those years.

Sincerely
A BLACK MAN FROM THE SOUTH.

Oprah should have tried to get One Life to Live and All My Chirren. That would have been an automatic 3-4 million viewers. Oh well. ...

Oprah....

:emlaugh:

The problem with OWN is that you have to have a extended cable to get her network. For instance my mom had basic cable until I decided to get the box to watch ESPNU for the SCG.

True, that's why she's not getting a lot of black viewership. My mom doesn't get OWN through her cable providers.

Not happening.

All those "soaps" are on the SOAP NETWORK.
They show nothing except soaps 24/7.

I mean new shows. Not reruns. When those two shows got cancelled this year by ABC , someone (don't know who or how) suggested that Oprah take them. She basically said she didn't want them.

I think getting those shows would have been automatic viewership (and white women. ...) and would have helped her other shows.

I don't even know if I get OWN. Never looked for it.

On satelite, when she took over the discovery HEALTH network, they just gave OWN that slot. Everybody with Directv get OWN and yet nobody watches. Just like nobody watches the GREEN channel or any of those off brand channels. I got pissed because they gave me OWN in my Basic Plus Pack and moved ESPN CLASSIC to the 3rd tier sports programming package you have to buy that includes YES, Madison Square Garden, The FCS Network, etc., .

Because once a show is cancelled and nobody picks up production, those shows are slotted into the rotation when their "story line" air dates come up on the SOAP network. They already have 1st dibs on the rights to air them since they have already bought all the past shows. I think they have to wait for a period of time before the recent shows can be bought up and aired, just in case somebody do step in and restart production. They got those types of show on lock. From All My Children" to DALLAS to Dynasty to Knotts Landing back to the Daytime soaps.

BTW:
What service do you have............. Directv, etc?
On Direct, it's up near the 270s.

All those years of bashing black men, catering to the white women in the burbs, now that her white audience has left her in the cold, she figures out black people live on this earth also. The day she took that "It's not a woman's fault, blame a man" garbage off the air was the best thing to happen to TV.

The Soap network will become another Disney channell for boys sometime next year (as they owned by Disney).

She still has time to those shows. All My Children alone will get her 3-5 million viewers.

She wants black folk now because that Sweetie Pie show has ought in triple the ratings than anything else she has on there. She wants black folks to watch look at BET and do the OPPOSITE!

Go get Extreme from HBO.
Get Tia and Tamara's highly rated show from Bravo
Go get some indy black films before IFC gets them
Fund some black novles into films or miniseries like Lifetime does
consider getting onboard with airing WNBA games and some HBCU womens games
Look at some of those web series and consider funding some of them for tv series-10 episode season do work

Nothing too hard to do.

Did forget Tyler Perry still has shows on the air?
As does Judeg Judy, Joe Brown and the rest that chew up black men and spit them out.

And Maury with his who is your baby daddy shows.

White folks left her in the cold because there is nothing to watch and they are STILL ticked that she didn't bother to get All My Children and One Life to Live. If Direct Tv could get Friday Night Lights, Damages and Passions and TNT could get Southland. What is her excuse?

I'm not bashing Oprah, but I don't watch her network either and I've seen about maybe 5 episodes of her show in all the years it ran. Her show never appealed to me.

I have Dish Network and it's also on that satellite provider. I only know that because I was looking for CURRENTV (Countdown with Keith Olbermann when it re-aired) and I was perusing through the channels.

Not true, it is in the basic package on comcast.

I watch OWN, mostly for Welcome to Sweetie Pie's, the Tiffany's party show and I liked the Oprah Behind the Scenes...but that's it so far.

I do think there are too many reruns...I didn't watch Dr. Phil before and that's the majority of it now. She'd do better running her old reruns. And why she thought Rosie would be a good appeal across the board...I'm not sure. Heck, Rosie's had about 3 shows that all bombed on other networks.

but the bottom line is: We want ORIGINAL programming.

I have to applaud her for SAYING what she didn't get before...she gets now. Oh, y'all will say she's just watching her money dry up. Whatever the reason...and that's usually the impetus in ANY business...glad she recognized it and is addressing.

I will continue to support this media icon. My daddy always says, "YOUR folks work hard as hell to tear you down even while you are being celebrated all over the world." Still true...

So very true. Black people will actively work hard to tear another successful black person down even if their success is on a scale much smaller than Oprah's.

I rarely watch television. If I do, it's a specific sporting event or show that I'm interested in and that's it.

However, I have been flipping through the channels and have stopped on Lisa Ling's show and that Visionaries show. I like watching, reading or listening to anything about how other people attained success.

I think Oprah's vision is a little high brow for most people. Television is entertainment and it seems that most programming for black people is relatively low brow. It'll be interesting to see if she can provide programming that is entertaining, but also uplifting and inspiring. That's the challenge for her. How to entertain without clowning and showing the worst of our people.

Though it's nice to know that we'll be getting more shows out of Ms. Oprah, it's hard not to harbor some resentment at being her ugly-duckling-turned-swan, reckoning Winfrey's sudden change of heart with virtually being ignored for years.

Who should be nervous: TV One, Centric
Who should be worried: white people
Who should be skeptical: black people

I think Oprah had what I would call a "Coming to Jesus Moment."

"That's impossible..I don't believe in Jesus, I believe in a higher consciousness"

I think she is having trouble because 'there is more than one way to God. Jesus is just one of the ways.'

I loved her show back when she 'black' shows.

Oprah's problems has nothing to do with her beliefs in religous beliefs or not...her network problems...is basically her vision of what SHE want her network to be rather that what the VIEWERS want. I knew before OWN went on the air that she was going to have problems. Believe it or not some women out there don't like her vision. They appreicate her accomplishmensts but her vision as a TV network is flawed. You have to air shows that appeal to ALL walks of life and not just one utopian like idea of audience. Take a newspapers for example, it has everything that most people want to read. CNN...self explanatory a lot of folx watch CNN for it's VARIETY of news programs. USA network,TNT all show movies with that appeals to everyone whether you don't agree with the shows or not air it to stay afloat. It's business.

She need to admit her mistakes and hire some top notch SCREENPLAY writers (and not top notch NOVELIST...those are 2 different..Beloved should have taught her a lesson). If I was an executive at OWN I could turn her network profits in 6 months... only if she let me have full reigns of programming. It would not be her vision..but her network would not be at the bottom. :emlaugh:
