dacontinenet, you must have one helluva TV! That thing must make Monique look like Vivica Fox

TBJ: Monique is Hot.:sperm: Biff LOVES women with girth.

As you were.....just wanted to chime in. Biff doesnt' smack bands, but I can honestly say Gsu's band's CURRENT popularity and REPEAT television, video, and movie offers wows me at times.

You peeps ROAST Grambling's kid's because they seem to be caught up in their own hype. I consider some of you just as naive when it comes to HBCU bands. All you guys seem to preach is SU, JSU, Famu, and Grambling when it comes to history. There were soooooooo many more great programs back then. Unfortunately due to lack of winning football programs (or just plain ol lack of exposure) we never got the chance to fully explore them.

Somewhere along the lines they got lost in the shuffle. Swept under the rug. Fell through the cracks. For all the bands that seem to have been forgotten, there are SEVERAL programs (Within the Swac AND outside the Swac) that can EASILY compete with the above mentioned bands. They just dont' get the credit. I take my hat off to the today's TOP TEIR bands that have kept their traditions strong.

I think you guys are being a lil' rough on these young peeps. I may not like their style....but dayum yall. Ease up. They are who they are. When Corporate Sponsorship offers them opportunity, what are they supposed to do??!? Are they supposed to say "we dont deserve it because we arent' the Grambling of yesteryear?" I aint sayin'..........Im just sayin'. Ya dig?

What you fail to realize is that during the beginning of the Dr. Greggs era The Southern University did not have a winning football program for many years. So please don't use that excuse. Yes there are many other good band programs out there but there are not many rare gems out there like a SU, JSU, FAMU, TnSU, or old school GSU. Longevity separates good from great and GSU is slowly falling back every year because they have forgotten the traditions that set them apart from the rest. It has nothing to do with corporate sponsorship......HBCU bands are hot right now so even Valley could secure Corporate sponsorship. That's nothing. GSU is lacking quality.....

That's nothing. GSU is lacking quality.....

Let the church say............ "AMEN"!

Bruh, they are not only lacking "quality", but taste, originality and showmanship. Last year at the BC, I sat directly behind gSU's band (I mean the very next row from where the were sitting) and I talked schyatt to them all game long. Bruh, their Tenor drummers were still ashamed about the ARSE whipping that they took at the Battle of the Bands the night before.

No lie, as God is my witness after the halftime was over with and SU finished performing, even the gSU fans were saying "that was a sorry ARSE performance by gSU". Grams band members were even looking sad and could not say anything because they knew that SU had just put the final nail in the coffin!

World "Shamed" Members past and present, y'all really do need to address the current leadership of your band. It doesn't make any sense for gSU's band to be in the current state of "garbage" that you guys are in. No identity whatsoever, y'all play musical uniforms (and those mustard yellow ones are MO-FOing ugly), your drums need to be replaced as well. I was teasing the ph-uc-k out of your percussion section, because those drums looked like they went thru Hurricance Katrina! The were are warped and chipped, I was like "DAYUM" y'all shole ain't rolling on chrome like "THE JUKE BOX" huh!:vomit:

And a final thing, "Why did you all now decided to go to "ONE" Drum Major like Southern has "ALWAYS" used...........? Hmmmmmm, Zock could have a point!:lmao:

PJ...
Here's my view on your "rare gem" theory. Doctor Foster and Greggs JUST LEFT these programs that THEY PERSONALLY built. Their BLUEPRINT is still there because both former directors are still right around the corner. Both left the keys of these fine tuned cars to their LONG-TIME-RIGHT-HAND-MEN. Dont forget though, many were saying it was time for BOTH of them to consider retirement. (many of your own former members)

TnSu had a loooong period of downtime and mediocrity. They are JUST beginning to become a Top Teir band again.

Dont tell me Jsu is satisfied with their current Band's status. Dont get me wrong.....these bands are good, but you are comparing Su and Fam to most bands who have gone through SEVERAL other band directors with different ideas, approaches, and agendas. Famu and Su are rare gems because the RARE GEMS that are responsible for their success JUST left.

In 25 years what will Famu and Su be? Time can only tell. Differnce is....most other programs have already gone through their 25 year absence of their beloved originators. No excuses here....just spittin the truth.

As far as the Gsu/Su thing....I have no dog in that fight. Heck.........I was NEVER captivated by Grambling when you guys considered them "ELITE". It's just a matter of preference I suppose.

Thrashing the kids today isint' helping the matter. Do they need a change? I think so.

I have always loved GSU band. There were some students who were OFF in that dance routine, and that should be addressed, no excuse.

The one thing I really admire about GSU (and PVU) for that matter is they are one of the few bands remaining that dance and play at the same time. What I can't stand is when a band plays 4 measures, then all you hear is drums and tubas while 180+ dance. Or even worse, one side of the 50 plays, while the other dance, or vice versa.

When I was in school, our Band Director (Doc Miller, who came from GSU) would always tell us he could go on the street and find a drunk, give him and instrument for him to put on the ground and dance. That is not what Corporate Sponsors are looking for (or as Doc would say "not what white folks are looking for, but what <n-word> is looking for, but <n-word> ain't paying <s-word>).

I think all these kids in these bands are doing a great job.

TBJ...I wasn't just talking about bands...

It's funny how you can fix your mouth to say something like that, when you have 3 different uniforms or rather 1 uniform and 2 sets of warm up suits.

Dude, who in da hell wants to look like a peeled banana? A dayum neon light. Dude, your crappy band looked like one of these Saturday..............

A dayum highlighter. Black on top and neon in the middle with them dayum scuffed up orderly shoes on. You all should have use some of these before stepping off the bus.

And I'm not going to get on the way you all sounded again. :vomit:

Its the numbers. The band is much smaller than in the past so why have more than one? Don't flatter yourself...... Why yawl making such a big deal about it? If I didn't give a shat about a school I wouldn't care what they looked like. Sounds like a bully with low self esteem to me. Always putting others down to pump yourself up!!! I haven't heard ANY bands this year that are flawless and raising hell!! That damn Mr. Charlie dance along minstrel show Jackson be putting on ain't cute either......:happydance::happydance::shame:

I will not call Grambling trash, but I will not call them great, Grambling lacks basic maneuvering skills and their halftime drill selections are made for a much older crowd. Please update your book and play things the new generation wants to hear while you are drilling. Stop moving so much when the dancers are dancing because it takes away from their performances. I end up focusing more on the band then the danceline and they are being featured, seems selfish.

I also think that you should have a transition song into your dance block. You don't have to march like Southern or Famu and JSU for that matter to be great, you can keep your own style just march higher, harder and play with more intensity, you are better than years past, but c'mon GSU atleast execute.

Well said BurhDaycare...... well said!!!!

You can't blame the band members for what is forced upon them by the Directors of the Band. And since "THIS DUDE" Pannell has taken over the band program at GSU, the greatest that was once The World Fame is now just a "Hot ARSE MESS"!

I know for a fact that the G Men of Gram would not tolerate a Football Coach to come in an destroy what Coach Rob built up........ so why would the G Men of Gram allow "Dude" Pannell to destroy what Conrad Hutchins and others built with the World Fame?????????????:noidea:

Gram y'all can do better than this...........

Best point on this thread so far. Well said TBJ!! So much venom is spewed at Gram's band on a regular basis that it's hard to seperate SMACK from those who are TRULY disturbed by the product they are seeing and simply desire for them to do better. your statement was a HOME RUN.

How long has Pannell been director? Alcorn is in the same boat. Griff is destroying a program that he helped to build.

As far as halftime, the show was not so bad until that did that duffle bag boy thing... the rest was tolerable.

I've always respected the "craft." I would've loved to have the capability to make music w/ an instrument and hold those that know how in high regard.

TBJ the actual drilling part looked crips. No it was SU crisp but it was way better than that first JSU formation. Now they had little sound while drilling but all in all the drill was good.. The dancing while the Ochesies dance should stop and there was no energy to the dance...The GSU..GSU you is more affective in Grambling..

Band Directors on the Clock:
Dr. Liddell We sound good but then...The Den send help
Dr. Pannell
Who ever is over AAMU wow that show in BR was horrible..
