Some excerpts from reports in Mobile ...

Impressed with what I saw from James Washington (WR, Oklahoma State) when it came to catching the ball in traffic. The majority of his catches were made with a defender on him. Strong body and hands. Where he had his problems was when he had to separate in-route. Tried a double move on Danny Johnson (CB, Southern University) and he wasn’t able to get away. The question about him is not going to be about his hands, but whether he can develop as a route runner.

Didn’t know much about Danny Johnson (CB, Southern University) and at 5-9, 182, he wasn’t a high priority for me. Now it appears he needs to be studied. He might not have the skill of some of the other smaller corners in the draft, but I was impressed with his movement. He wasn’t shy about playing routes and contested the ball. There were two snaps where he drove on a slant to knock the ball away and another time where he was in great position to handle the out.

Danny Johnson (CB – Southern) –

Cornerback is a big question mark for the Raiders going forward, with plenty of question marks on the roster. Injuries have derailed corner David Amerson, reducing him to just five games in 2017. A criminal case may result in the release of Sean Smith, and free agency may cause Oakland to lose T.J. Carrie.

The only prominent corner on the roster may be Gareon Conley, who will be returning from an injury that sidelined him for most of the season. Conley shows the ability to play inside, but will likely be the outside corner Oakland drafted him to be. That is where the draft allows Oakland to take some chances. Thanks to several compensatory picks, Oakland may have more than four extra picks come April. Late in the draft, Oakland can afford to take chances on some corners.

Southern corner Danny Johnson has made quite a name for himself, an all-around athlete that played both sides of the ball and shined on special teams. Johnson has great speed, good hips, and ability to adapt-and-react on the fly. Oakland can get a solid nickel in the case that Carrie flees for big money, or give him time to develop as a backup.

Side note ...

I'mma start calling NCAT OL Brandon Parker "The Reach" because his wingspan is 7 feet while he's like 6-foot-7 tall. That reach he got is like Lennox Lewis long

–Focusing on the line of scrimmage Wednesday left little time for evaluating defensive backs, but I continue to be impressed by the quick feet and fluid turning motion of Southern’s Danny Johnson. The 5-9, 182-pounder lacks the frame to fit every scheme, but he shows terrific agility and route anticipation, blanketing receivers and breaking up at least two passes that should have gone for easy receptions. He was especially impressive on a sideline route late in practice by Kansas State’s Bryon Pringle, matching the athletic 6-1, 201-pound wideout step for step on a double move.

It’s no secret that the Jets need upgrades at cornerback. In an ideal world, Gang Green would prefer to re-sign Morris Claiborne and add a true No. 1 cornerback in free agency. Regardless, Kelly is an interesting option given his size and versatility. The 6-2, 200-pounder made a nice transition from safety to cornerback this season. Senior Bowl week will be pivotal for Kelly, who could be an interesting mid-round option if he impresses this week. Speaking of cornerbacks, also keep an eye on Southern’s Danny Johnson.

Not shocked. He is Louisiana born and bred. I read that he was close to a 4.0 student too, therefore instincts are intact.

I remember in the BC he was neck to neck on a deep post pattern against one of our faster WRs. Our guy did not separate. In man coverage he can hold his own.

That wingspan. I felt bad for ole boy from UTSA going up against Parker. It looked like light work for Parker.

If football fails for Parker, Vince McMahon is always waiting LOL

Danny and Chad were out there battling each other in the 2016 game. I loved every second of it.
 
Danny and Chad were both recruited out of high school, which makes it extra special. Blue chip talent is still found in BCF.

We know that. I keep saying our schools have stabilized from the boom of schools moving up to FBS and starting football programs from the late 90s until like 2010. Our schools still have an "it" factor.

We've been having NFL quality talent on display annually. Pro Bowlers and the whole nine.

Also, that LB from SC State, Leonard, that. kid. is. the. truth.
