Man please, if Strib does that he has to be smoking something. Tougaloo? Tougaloo? come on man Tougaloo??? Oh well if he does do it I hope they promote Coach Wardell , maybe then we would stop choking in the tourney.

I could believe the WIZ but i was totally shocked when I heard the possibilities of Strib. I don't think it will happen but it will be very interesting to see how this unfolds.

The WIZ doesn't have anything to lose, he's already retired. He's just trying to help a program out. But would Strib be contemplating hoping for more money? I wouldn't think you would go down unless forced to.

I can see why Strib would want to leave. Tougaloo is a low pressure job with more pay once you add in his retirement money. He's 70 years old, maybe he's ready to get out of the ratrace.

Exactly. Strib can retire from the state of Miss and collect a nice check. Then supplement his income by working at low pressure and PRIVATE college Tougaloo . Both incomes combined is more than he would make at Valley. So what does he have to lose. He is probably winding it down. Makes sense to me.

AAU basketball has killed Valley....gone are the days where Stribling could sneak into a small Mississippi town and steal an undiscovered gem who turns out to become a 25 ppg scorer

I knew things were changing when Stribling flew down to Houston in 2003 and offered 6 guys scholarships on the spot and none accepted...

but this one kid who was offered a scholarship from Houston the other day said the coach at MVSU left the school so his options are no open...hmmmm

Yeah I see it now. Draw a full retirement plus a full check from the "Loo". Can't beat that.

They explained why he, (STRIB), is interested last night in the Tougaloo.

Strib is 67 years old. He can retire and collect his full state salary and collect a check from Tougaloo since it's a private college. He also has a daughter that stay's here in Jackson.

The way he explained it, he's not looking to "Retire" so to speak, just a new challenge on the way to retirement.

I thought he was crazy too until he explained why he was interested and what it included.

man Strib can do whatever he want to do, just hurry up and make his mind up so the next coach can get everything situated. I been saying it's time for somebody else to take over. I'm tired of tearing up the regular season and disappearing in the post season. Chucking 3 pointers and playing shaky defense ain't gonna get it anymore, especially with the talent he has had to work with. Ain't no reason we shouldn't have won the SWAC the past 5 years, that's right the past 5 years!!!!!!!

I guess the answer to the topic question is yes.

Whitney takes Bandits' helm

Team defense on coach's mind

Dave Whitney spent 27 seasons at Alcorn State University, putting a lasting stamp on a basketball program known for success, staying power and colorful characters.

Whitney took care of that final category pretty much by himself.

Whitney, 75, is returning to the bench to coach the final 10 games of the Gulf Coast Bandits' WBA schedule. He's taking over for interim coach Dale Brown with the idea of better defining the players' roles, and taking nothing for granted.

Whitney interviewed at Prairie View but said he pulled out of the running because of "lack of decisiveness" by the school.

Should've been evident. We're a 2-factioned alumni of sorts. Those who want and those who do not. :|

Indecisiveness my arse. It was more like a DIVISION amongst alums.

well I have no problems saying that I'm glad he's found another job somewhere else.
