NEW ORLEANS - Managers of the Mercedes-Benz Superdome have discussed the possibility of replacing Grambling as the annual opponent for Southern in the Bayou Classic.

Citing low attendance in recent years, the group said it is possible that Grambling could be replaced by another team, either a team that would play yearly, or the opponent could alternate yearly.

"If Grambling has fallen off that bad, maybe Southern could take the lead and it could be an earned-in game and bring in somebody else," said Robert Bruno, the commissioner of the LSED. "I just don't know if Grambling can carry the load."

Right, Stirring it to scare gram fans back into the seats. (Regardless of how poor the team performs)
They'll try moving the date before they replace them.

Just buzz talk to get them $$$ back up.

Who living off Eddie Robinson? We have won 6 Championships since he retired, and Bruno is a friend of Tony Clayton. Grambling has had a couple of bad seasons and it's our fault the Classic attendance is down? What about the years we won 4 straight and SU fans stop showing up as strongly? It's like kicking a hurt dog, but we gonna regain our strength and bit back. PAY ATTENTION TO THIS, THE SUNBELT IS LOOKING FOR A 12th MEMBER, SO THEY CAN START HAVING A CHAMPIONSHIP GAME. THE SUNBELT HEADQUARTERS IS IN NOLA, BETWEEN THE SAINTS, LHSAA AND BAYOU CLASSIC, WHICH GAME IS EASIER TO MOVE? THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ATTENDANCE.

They could move the damn concerts inside the building instead of outside DURING the game, for one.

A concert shouldn't be going om doing the game period, I don't know who bright idea that was. At the end of the day Grambling need to show their ass up.

So when would Southern play Grambling? And I have no interest in watching the Bayou Classic if it's not Southern vs Grambling...that's what makes the Bayou Classic, the Bayou Classic, IMO.

Also, who would Southern play...the only options are other SWAC programs and D2 teams

I hope the opponent is a black HBCU school...for one...

JSU wouldn't be good...
FAMU..maybe cool..that Friday night will be nasty....don't know if their fans will travel like that

My question is "Who runs the Bayou Classic?"

Is it the combination of Southern and Grambling or is it this Dome Management team.

I didn't think anyone besides the 2 schools involved where in charge of it. They are the ones that book the stadium for that weekend and are the only ones that can make decisions about it. If the dome is trying to say who will play in that game, I hope that neither school would agree to play anyone else in it. The schools have the power about who they will play and when.

When I hear "Bayou Classic" I think of Louisiana schools.....sounds like a scare tactic to me. Move the game earlier and then all the folks who have "play-off dreams" can finally stop whining. If they change the teams that will participate in this classic then just scrap the name altogether.

When I think of Bayou Classic, I think of Southern Louisiana. The word bayou refers to the small streams or rivers and marshlands typically found in Southern Louisiana. It is a reference to a place - New Orleans - rather than the teams participating in it.

Of course, Baton Rouge and Southern University are also located in bayou country adding legitimacy. Grambling, not so much.

It will very well still be the Bayou Classic without Grambling.

You typed it before me. I think this is a travesty and as a graduate of Southern University, I am personally insulted. Why should we give of fu@k what Robert Bruno thinks? So he’s running things now? Like you said, only thing the LSED should be concern with when comes to Bayou Classic business is getting their rent on time. I don’t care if only the football team shows up. All those years Tulane play in the Dome in front of those 10 fans nobody said a word. Now we all telling Grambling â€￾Mr. Cholley say if yawl field hands don’t come in the house and act right he not gon let you back in the house no mo.â€￾ Fu@k that, they are going to be pushing Southern out next. I rather play on each other’s campuses then begging white folks to come inside.:angry::angry:

That might have to be an option.

However, when you're playing in Mr. Cholley's building it's kinda hard to say his only concern should be getting his rent on time. That's not realistic when he might have the opportunity to earn more money or the same money with less hassle.

Getting mad is not the answer here. Somebody needs to think this thing through and do what's best for all involved.
