Congrads GSU Band on the new Movie!

In the case of this movie...

1. Location
2. Name Recognition
3. Reputation
4. Professionalism

Remember the movie Drumline and former SU's director Isaac Greggs position that "SU doesn't finish second place to anyone" when they told him that his band would not win in the movie? A lot of the SU folk got caught up in that arrogance and agreed. Perhaps word got around (in the movie industry) that SU is difficult to deal with. Just a guess on my part...but things like that can come back and be a detriment in later situations.

Grambling's band lands a lot of deals and generates a lot of revenue for itself and attention to the university. Despite the "critics" we get our share of commerical opportunities and make a lot of cash for appearances. That explains how we have the funds to outfit a full band with tuxedoes.

Why do you think I put it in there... I welcome smack. I even laff at the band smack (sometimes) because me personally, I don't give a shiit about halftime band performances anyway. That's not to demean or belittle those who play, have played, or aspire to play. It's just that I could be content if all bands played from the stands... :lmao::lmao:

Mikebigg just gave you one example of the many things SU refuse to do. SU has standards.
 
I was in the band the year we were suppose to do Drumline. It really wasn't Doc's decision. He let us decide and we came to an agreement that doing the movie wasn't worth it. Alot of offers come into the bandroom all the time for music videos, movies, BOTB's, ect but if it ain't hitting on shat or it may make the University or band look ignorant then we're not doing it. One year I think 2002 Beyonce wanted to perform with us for the Bayou Classic BOTB's and game For free unlike some people we know) but Doc shot it down because Beyonce didn't wanna use the dance dolls but her own dancers. Doc shot down the band going to Bejiing China also. We're not gonna just accept anything because 1. we are well funded 2. we have dignity 3. we simply don't have to.

With that said congrats GSU.

HUH??? Wasn't worth it???

And do you blame Beyonce for not wanting the Dolls? Those Dolls can't dance like that. I like the Dolls style, but they can't do that stuff Beyonce be doing.

The amount they wanted to pay us wasn't enough for one. Also the fact that we were going to lose to a fictional band. Dr. Greggs and Dr. Julian White (FAMU) didn't want to come in 2nd. Another thing is at first the bands weren't gonna have their actual names (ex. SU was gonna be New Orleans Tech, FAMU Florida Tech) and Doc had to talk them outta that. Us and FAMU got more publicity for not doing it than most of the bands in the movie. We agreed with Doc.

How do you know that? We have Dolls that have danced on tour with Ciara, missy, Beyonce, ect and we have Dolls on Broadway. So that's definately not true.

I based what I said on what I see the Dolls do on the field. Have the Dolls dance as a group with any of the people you named up there. I'm not talking about individuals, I'm talking about as a group. Don't get me wrong, I like the Dolls and I like their style, but comparing what they do on the field to what Beyonce does is laughable. I'm pretty sure Beyonce saw some video footage of them before she made her decision.

Not as a group but the thing you gotta realize that what the Dolls do on the field is not the same concept as what Beyonce does but they can definately do the moves she does. They actually did a Crazy in love routine where Doc actually let them get out there and do a Beyonce type of routine. Beyonce is actually a fan of the Dolls but she wanted her crew to get some shine.

I saw this movie this past Sunday at a special screening. The debaters in the movie was actually coached by our debate team coach Dr. Thomas F. Freeman so it had a Grambling and Texas Southern connection. The debate team in the movie actually got loss on their way to Prairie View one night for a debate competition.

It wasn't much of a showcase of Grambling's band but congrats World Famed!!!

You're actually right because along with my TOPS I was very happy because my meals were paid for as well as my books, and dorm,....well basically everything plus some spending money. Add the opportunity to kick ya'll arses to the list too. :)
