Sad news indeed!
:(

May God rest his soul and strengthen his family and friends.

Gig was a cool brother. I took some of my family to Baton Rouge for the ASU/SU game last September. Our seats were directly in front of the Marching Hornets and to say that they enjoyed Gig (the dancing, the swaying, the whole 9)would be an understatement.

Sad
:(

Big Gig and I have been cool since 1992. I first met him when he was helping out for honor band at Alabama State that year. I went on to AAMU and joined the Marching Maroon & White (B Phi B - sousaphone section) and we always had this friendly rivalry going on. We were even cooler after I pledged Phi Mu Alpha (we were frat brothers). I remember seeing him at the SWAC championship last year. He didn't look very well at that time. May God bless his soul and be with his family in their time of need.

The MMH should be very proud of Big Gig.. He was a great arranger, very passionate about the MMH, and most of all a great person. He'll truely be missed....

It's sad to hear this. I knew Gig from being a high school band director in Tuskegee for the past couple of years. Growing up in Tuskegee I remember when Gig marched at ASU in the early 90's. I remember him having sooooooo much sound with his tuba. His enthusiasm had an affect on my wanting to be in a college marching band. I must admit I didn't agree with some of his arrangements but he really loved what he was doing when he was in front of the Marching Hornets the past couple of years. He was excuse me is a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia... At the time I never knew I would be a member but he was one of the first people I saw as a member of PMA.

I know I went to FAMU but Gig's death really hit home being that I myself am having a battle with kidney failure. I may come on here and talk trash but to tell you the truth my life is very tough. As men we often don't go to the doctor when things arent't right in our bodies. But I am a living witness that if anything happens to you get it checked out. It's funny now but I remember that I was pissing blood and I thought that I ran across some bad "chick" when I was in Miami. I remember that I was running out of breath all the time and I was tired all the time. I thought that I was eating the wrong thing. One day I had to go the emergency room because I kept throwing up everything I ate or drank. I didn't know that I made it just before I had a stroke. My blood pressure was 265/180. In other words I was supposed to have a stroke. I remember blanking out a couple of times and seeing that light at the end of the tunnel. I truly thank the Lord for all that he has done for me and I pray that I get a transplant. In the mean time if I can influence someone to take care of themselves then that is a blessing to me and that person. I'm not saying this to scare anyone I'm just saying that if there is anything wrong with your health don't be so man enough not to get checked out. And eat right and stop drinking ... so much (especially you PMA boyz... I know how we do. ;) )

I am just saddened by this :( I met Gig while I was still in high school and I must say that whenever I thought I about Bama State, Gig wasn't far from thought as well. I will definitely miss him. RIP FRAT!!!!

I am trying to find out concerning the funeral arrangements so as soon as I hear something, I will post them. If anyone has the info already, please post because I would like to be there to say goodbe to a true musician.

I am deeply saddened by his passing. I knew Gig. He went to high school with my cousin. When I foung out he went to Alabama State and he found out I went to Tennessee State, boy did we have words for each others band LOL. He always would always say "TSU, yall good but yall ain't in the swac" LOL. He will be missed. Prayers out to his family and to the Mighty Marching Hornets of Alabama State.

My Prayers...

To the MMH family, stay up and I know how it feels to lose a member of your band family. I was at TnSU when Prof. Kirk went to sleep. My prayers go out to your band and especially his immediate family.
