.Coms and technology startup companies within the African American Community

BTW, I been done said I think black males almost hate black females and vice-versa, based upon a smedgling of samples here or there.

I don't see what I call "real love" between black couples anymore. But these mixed relationships IPOs lol? Man... falling all out over each other publicly, from what I can visibly tell.

Black people hate each other and it's
probably in our DNA.
Look @ how Africans fight each other in Africa, & always have
selling us into slavery and shti

Black people always wanna one -up somebody, changing cell phones
every few months and shti

Black folks always on that fugg shti about look @ me. feel me
but never wanna help a mofo
we don't give a damn about group uplift we wanna be that super star alone

we are the most exclusionary race of people on earth toward each other
but we will accept almost anything from other races

are we cursed, stupid, ain't worth shti,
destined to be last always or what?

Sad to say it, but most of what you said is so true. We hate each other so bad sometimes, that we resent when some of us succeed. I hate to see us tear each other down. I just was not raised like that.

It's hard to understand how or why someone wouldn't be happy and elated for someone else to make it or even make it big. That individual's ascent to success cannot help but make it better (the community - hopefully).

Buckwheat how do you feel about the indian man explaining to the group that they would need a white man to be their front man in order to pitch their idea? I know a lot of people that I was watching it with had a fit. ItThoughts?

Because there is a distrust of US. Despite the fact there are MANY white crooks that will rip off a person-folks still distrust us.

Look at the Dallas CIty Council-almost every black person that was on that council had visits from the police and some are now in jail for stealing money. NOw they jus tmade it HARDER for black businesses to get contracts with the city or anyone else.

we are the most exclusionary race of people on earth toward each other

NO we are the race that wants everything without working for it.

We want to be the Jerry Jones and Mark Cubans but don't want to do the work for it. So we pimp our kids to be the next Queen James or Lil Weezy. Because we SEE them showoff thier stuff to the young and stupid.
While Jerry Jones makes money with his Deathstar (If you knew how much he gets for those box seats alone-he doesn't even have to pay taxes on them).

are we cursed, stupid, ain't worth shti,

NO. Because we have folks that are busting thier behinds and making it. It has to come to the point that the rest of the hood has to SEE them. That means taking back our media and stop giving our c**n faction all the attention. We have at least 15 black web shows (including Jaleel White's show), black blogs, black writers online and so on. We need to talk about them and not TI, Gucci, DMX or Wack FLock going back to jail all the time.

Our kids WANT to know but it's the ADULTS inthier lives that stand in the way.

I saw the series and thought it was extremely interesting. Although the lack of black business owners in technology concerned me, I found the lack of blacks in the technology fields period to be more troubling. I been a successful web developer/software engineer for over 10 years. I get recruiters contacting me for jobs on LinkedIn every week day. I wish more brothers and sisters did what I do because there is a hell of a lot of money to be made. This field is heavily dominated by white males and Indians.

As far as the show goes, I felt these guys where ten years too late. The time when VCs threw money at websites are long gone. You have to do something extremely innovative to get VC money. Also, Silicon Valley is much more than websites (Facebook, Google, etc). It is about innovative technology. I kind of hate how CNN presented it because it made it seem like racism was the reason behind the lack of black business owners in technology. The only thing VCs care about is how do they earn their money back with interest.

KB, there are still new opportunities to go out there (Silicon Valley) and start up .coms. You do have to be innovative and come up with new technologies that will be eye-catching. I agree that there is a lot of money to be made for Software Engineers,System Engineers and even Test Engineers. I've done all of these jobs. There is a lot of money to be made. I think a lot of AA marjoring in Engineering, Math, Computer Science get discouraged or frustrated with all of the math and programming classes and change their majors.

I've seen this happen numerous times. Part of the problem is that some people either get pushed into those majors due to parental/family influence while some others are only focused on potential starting salary. The issues come up when the student realizes that they either aren't cut out for the major or they simply don't have a passion for it. It's not just an Engineering/Math/Comp Sci thing since I've seen the same thing happen to people that tried to major in Nursing, Education, or other majors where it helps to have both a certain skillset and a passion for what you are doing.

True, I agree!

That is why we like the big rims, expensive cars and clothes. We saw that as being the way when we were poor, then when we started working we wanted to show a status. I like to refer to it s the Buckhead vs the Bankhead theory. Growing up in Atlanta in the 70's and early 80's, Buckhead is where all the millionaires and good eating places were. Bankhead had all the good cheap eating joints and working class families. So all the young cats wanted to live the Buckhead life. They got into the dope game never realizing, if you have a Bankhead mentality, you will never have a Buckhead class.

I didn't get here until the late-'90s, but I know what you are talking about. The dope game is one thing, but on the legal side of things a lot of people came to town trying to be something that they really weren't. I work for a high-risk insurance carrier and it is amazing to see how many of us are getting bent over dealing with buy here, pay here lots or trying to floss when it really isn't necessary. I understand that it is a rough economy, but if you have a BMW SUV or a Land Rover then you really shouldn't be calling me crying about how you don't have money for your deductible.

The irony in all of this is that most of the people that folks are trying to impress either couldn't care less or will still find something wrong with them.
