Comparing McNair to other black quarterbacks

Is that really getting caught or just not eluding tacklers? How do you get caught if the guy is in front of you?

You guys are making it seem like every time these QBs dropped back to pass they escaped every play wow. Hmm lets see if a QB scrambles towards the end zone and gets hit that mean he got caught. I don't see how hard that is to understand lol. Also the highlights are going to show him eluding tackles they don't show the numerous times get got tackled. Didn't Steve McNair injure his leg against Gram one year an beat them? I guess just slipped and fell huh lol

Steve McNair and Donovan McNabb had good QB mechanics. Look at how they dropped back in the pocket even in college. The rest were not good at throwing the football they just had speed and luck lol. Vick had an arm but he was inaccurate. Vince Young with them side arm throws mane stop it hahah. You guys would fit right in at ESPN because you're clueless about SWAC history and the talent it had. Them dudes were fast look at Coby Jones from Alcorn he probably was faster than Vick but nobody knew him because of where he went to school

Ain't nobody ignorant of SWAC football history. It's not far fetched to believe that QBs who were great in the FBS would also be great in the FCS that's all. It's not like folks are comparing random, average QBs to McNair. All these guys were first round picks -- one was the No. 1 overall pick.

LOL if Bruce Engene could dominate the Swac, VY,Vick, RG3 and etc would of broke all types of records. I cant believe the stuff I am reading. hahaha
But You saying 2005 SWAC Not 1990 SWAC, it is a HUGE Difference. Bruce Eugene Would have not made Grambling Team in the 90s.. Kendrick Nord was superior then Bruce. Nord was 6'5" 225, Bruce 5'11 250lbs...

They talk about SWAC defenses back in the day as if they were the best in the nation. Bruce fat azz was shredding defenses left and right.

Bruce played 10 years ago, not Back Then

You think if Vick was the QB of PV that he would've ran roughshod over the SWAC back then? Don't get me wrong he would've been a difference maker but completely dominating? Stop it lol

Who is saying that? Getting caught = he broke a run and someone walked him down. Getting tackled on a scramble is just that. Damn. No QB has ever NOT gotten tackled.

Why are you using PV who had absolutely no scholarship athletes? Put him on Alcorn or JSU or SU or Gram pre-'95 and he'd dominate.

Getting caught is getting caught doesn't matter if you're scrambling, getting walked down from behind or sacked. If I tackle you that means I caught you. You're trying to make up a definition of being caught lol

Yep. And we didn't say those guys wouldn't have been stars. Just that if they played in the same era as Mac, they would experience the same stuff he did. Depending on what school they were at in the SWAC, it may have been even more difficult for them to be what they accomplished on those FBS teams. I am willing to swap the comparison and say how great McNair would have been playing at UT during VY's era or Va Tech during Vick's run. Neither QB would have started if Mac was their team mate. LOL. Va Tech probably beats Florida State because Mac was a better passer.

So who will start between Charlie Ward or McNair?

If those guys in the SWAC could catch up to Steve McNair what makes you think they couldn't catch Young, McNabb and Vick? Also McNair was a better QB than any of them in my opinion even in the NFL.

You do know Vince Young won a National title right. How many swac titles did McNair win? You do know Vick Ran through a tough Florida State defense right. Didn't Vick play against one of the Best college football teams in History. Miami Hurricanes. I understand SWAC football was decent back then but D1 football was and still is tougher.

What they're saying is yes you would have legit QBs, but could the OL, RBs, and WRs provide enough for them to shine. Folks are still going to have to get open and make catches, and the OL was still going to have to protect them from rushing defenders.

The question would be... since we all agree the SWAC was tougher back then (overall), wouldn't the OL, RB and WR been better as well?

My view on this is of course Vick and company would have dominated the SWAC, I can't really speak to if they were better than McNair since I was a little too young to remember his years playing at Alcorn.

Who caught McNair in the SWAC? LOL Not many folks did when he broke into the open field. Same with Young and Vick in their conferences. McNabb wasn't as much of a runner.

The NFL comparison is moot since we're talking about what they could have done in COLLEGE... in the SWAC in the early 90s. They all would have dominated EASILY, whether primarily through the air like McNair or combined passing and throwing like the other guys.

But it's okay to compare a small conference where the total revenue(combined) might have been 70 million dollars to the ACC, BIG 12 schools etc, might have been a least 100 million per school.
