Do Good; Good Follows
This was my presiding bishop. He was a GREAT leader and sooooooooo well-loved and highly regarded! Our annual convocation is held every November, and this will be our 100th year celebration. I hate he won't be there. :bawling: May he RIP.

Bishop G.E. Patterson, leader of the international Church of God in Christ, died today at Methodist University Hospital after a battle with prostate cancer. He was 67.

As presiding bishop and chief apostle of COGIC, he oversaw a global media empire and was instrumental in swelling the denomination?s ranks to more than 6.5 million members in 58 countries.

He was progressive and a visionary, but at the same time he was a man who never forgot our heritage, and he knew the Church of God in Christ like the back of his hand," First Presiding Bishop Charles E. Blake of West Angeles COGIC in Los Angeles said this afternoon. "He was a great preacher, a pioneer of media ministries and he elevated our church in ways that touched millions of lives."

Those who knew him best said Bishop Patterson?s greatest attribute was his down-to-earth personality and the ability to make everyone he came in contact with feel special.

I have one of his music CD's. Wow. Prayers up to the Patterson and COGIC Family.

I live here in Memphis. I've visited Bountiful Blessings from time to time, and convocation each year.
I really enjoyed Bishop Patterson deliver the word of God. He will be greatly missed.

R.I.P. Bishop Patterson

...That may change our church's plans to go up there. We were heading up there just to fellowship at their church.

WOw this is disheartening to say the least !! He was an excellent Evangelist, and Theologian! I used to watch him on TV all the time! The WORD spoken through him were both encouraging and real. He was suppose to visit our church last year in Houston but was forced to to cancel at the last minute for health reasons! I never got a chance to see him in person!! Prayers our to the Patterson family, COGIC, and the millions if not billions of lives he has touched !

Sorry to hear that. He was one of the few preachers that I watched on T.V. It was my intentions to visit his church in Memphis. Sorry I never got the chance.

I watch him EVERY Sunday morning when I'm getting ready for the 10 a.m. church services.

And I ALWAYS looked forward to hearing him at Official Sunday at Convocation in Memphis. Those who attend that service know that Bishop would ALWAYS have some kind of catchy statement in his sermon that would stick out that made you think and/or laugh.
Last year, I believe, he talked about the donkey in the Bible that spoke versus an average person or a preacher (I can't remember which). And he made the statement: Ain't it something that sometimes an arse can see what a preacher can't see?
I was ROLLING!!!! :lmao:

Me too, what I enjoyed most is that I always got the point of his sermons and they stick with me, making my walk with Lord easier and consistent.
He didn't have to hoop (although he could). RIP Bishop, you served us well.

EXACTLY!!!! He was such an excellent teacher. And he didn't preach long either. And he would always leave you wanting to hear more! He mastered being able to tell a story from the Bible and making it relate to today.

I used it before him, but it is good to know that I am in that kind of company. I will miss him. LH Ford was good at that and CD Owens still is. JO Patterson was altogether different from them.

It is my guess that Charles Blake will get the rubber stamp when the time comes. He is more than worthy and capable of carrying the torch; and with the progression of things COGIC he is the best-suited among the presidium to take on the role.

Our hearts are saddened the GE Patterson has preached his last sermon on this side of glory, but we REJOICE that such great leader has gone home to great reward.
