Coastal Carolina, Eastern Kentucky on Sun Belt’s expansion radar

Sure, the topic of expansion in the Sun Belt Conference may have been put on the shelf earlier this week, but the shelf life on expansion rumors is pretty limited. Matt Hogue, athletics director at Coastal Carolina, says the Sun Belt Conference has contacted his university in recent weeks, although there may be no real reason to get too excited just yet.

“We’ve been contacted and we’ve had some discussion and that’s really the extent at this point,” Hogue said in a story published by The Sun News. “That’s where we are. We can acknowledge that they have contacted us, and certainly our stance has always been we would explore any opportunities that are presented to us.”

Sun Belt Conference commissioner Karl Benson has confirmed the conference has been in conversations with both Coastal Carolina and Eastern Kentucky. The Sun Belt currently has 11 football-playing members, including a pair of associate members for football only, Idaho and New Mexico State. Full league membership does not appear to be on the table for either associate member.

Liberty University would get an invitation first to join the Sunbelt before they even consider a MEAC school.

Yep...And Liberty is currently in the Big South.

Also, I think Liberty had the highest home attendance in the conference in their recently expanded stadium that seats approximately 20,000.

But Liberty is kind of .......well maybe a little too conservative for the Sun Belt to go after.
 
At the end of the day would sun belt benefit an hbcu as your not going to gain a new fan base as you gotta play schools with little fan base who rather follow the big state school....

Cusa offers better teams with followings plus its a quicker p5 jump

The regional pwcs are spending for fun thanks to large student enrollmentd

Nevermind. I thought he was saying that A&T wanted to join the Sun Belt, but I see now he meant the Big South in order for them to stay in the playoffs instead of the CB.

As far as NCAT is concerned, I hope the smart people they have working for them don't listen to the street committee known as the MEACZone and bolt for the Big South lol.
 
Sticking to the topic, EKU would be a basketball move to me as well as getting in that KY/midwest footprint.

That millionaire coach has built CCU into a consistent school since he became coach. They would be an attractive football AND basketball addition and get into the SC/NC market (and give USC/Clemson a little brother to beat up on in SC). Attendance wouldn't matter because Sun Belt doesn't have good attendance anyway lol.
