They got a big win over AAC power SMU this year, had a few close games with a few Power 5s, they are being led by a Jackson hero and former NBA All-Star and Champion, they got a lot going for them but the attendance and hype over JSU basketball seems to be very strange compared to football.

I hope JSU and the city of Jackson come out and support these boys. Mo right tho, if the Vet can average over 40K ... 5 or 6K should be no problem.

I'm sure the fans will start to come once we enter conference play. As of right now, most of your fans aren't about to make those long distance road games. They also won't be attending games while Christmas is about to kick off.

My theory is that because so many HBCU DI teams play a bunch of road games to start the season, it really doesn't condition fans to pay attention much to basketball when the year begins.

This was the average SWAC attendance figure for home games last season:

The SWAC as a whole averaged 1,518 fans out of 130 home dates, which ranked No. 24 out of the 32 Division I leagues.

How many of them play at home during the non-conference? And play a D1 school? D1 of interest?
Grambling beat Dartmouth who has not been dancing in 64 years. And not had a winning record since Star Trek TNG's second season. That is not going to cut it.
Jackson State has not played a home game yet.

Attendance for the Mississippi State vs JSU game was mediocre. About 3k showed up at the Mississippi Coliseum (neutral site in Jackson). JSU lost by only 10 pts so it was a competitive game

No one can ask how a city that used to be basketball crazy just went south - mo is from there and had nba success so where's his friends?

Or they moved to the big city also 😂

Jackson is still a basketball city but moreso on the high school level. Mo trying to change that and bring that hypeness to Jackson State. I heard in Jackson it was not uncommon for the high school games to double or triple JSU basketball attendance. I think basketball attendance picks up a little more in the spring semester when Da Boom show up

And many Jacksonians of means and education do eventually leave the city for mostly Dallas, Houston, Memphis, or Atlanta.

One thing Reverend Prime said that I do agree with...

There's no reason for any college D1 program to play 9 true road games to open the season. Now I can see Michigan, Indiana, and maybe TCU all spending the bag for JSU to travel. The rest of those teams should alternate home and away with you.

Prime had backdoor folks funding him so he can do that - obviously mo doesn't have that luxury so he has to get cash

He may think cause he from Jackson folks supposed to flock but swac basketball is different

I agree. I guess my point was more about the "who". There are levels. Indiana is a blueblood program, and Michigan has pedigree. I'll play them for cash without the expectation of a return game.

Abilene Christian and Miami-Ohio aren't really much higher tier than the SWAC. They shouldn't get that same benefit.
