City’s violence is ‘domestic terrorism’

Far South Side resident Tonya Green is leery about stepping outside of her front door these days.

That intense fear reached its peak last October when her then-17-year-old nephew, Trevor Green, was slain just a few blocks away from her Morgan Park residence.

“It's frightful,” Green said when asked to describe what it is like to live in a violent neighborhood. “You never know what might happen.”

The teenage boy was shot Oct. 5 in the 1600 block of West Montvale Avenue after coming home from a football game at Morgan Park High School. Green was scheduled to meet up with friends and then head off to night school classes that evening before he was murdered.

“It is depressing to go out now,“ said Green who claims to know those responsible for her nephew's death, but police have been unable to arrest the suspects due to a lack of witnesses to the crime.

Shelia Drake, whose son, 18-year-old Cordre Hayes, was shot and killed this month in the West Pullman neighborhood, could relate to Green's sorrow.

So far this year there have been nine fatal shootings in the Roseland neighborhood and seven such shootings in the Englewood and West Englewood areas.

Mission of Faith Baptist Church Rev. Gregory Livingston was disappointed that the group was unable to meet with Emanuel or McCarthy and believes the city's top officials wanted to avoid possible scrutiny.

“When kids were shot, we didn't see the mayor, police superintendent or the schools superintendent,” he said. “More kids have been shot here than troops overseas who are from Chicago. It is domestic terrorism.”

Chicago has become one big hell hole and breeding ground for ignorant behavior. I don't understand the negroes in that city.

We're the only state in the union that doesn't allow conceal carry. Heck, there was a handgun ban in the city just last year even though gang and misfits have historically found a way to use them against innocent residents.

As far as why the city is so bad in terms of violence, 20 percent of blacks are unemployed and 300,000 of them are living either right at or below the poverty line in a city that has the highest taxes in the country.

I recently interviewed a woman who lost her nephew to handgun violence. She said the influx of drugs pumped into the community along with tremendous number of young parents (mostly single mothers) not being able to raise their kids properly has contributed to these spikes in violence.

Next week I have to interview the mother of Derrion Albert. He was the high school kid who was beaten with a railroad tie a couple of years ago.

Not easy doing those stories. But these things need to be discussed and solutions need to be broached.

These are desperate times, bro.

Ken,
You know the odds of having a serious discussion on TSPN are slim to none. If you go write something about basketball wives or Madea, you might have a better chance.

You might be right about that. LOL Hey, it is what it is, though.

I will be up there for two weeks at the beginning of next month and I'm praying I will make back from my birth city alive. I will be staying downtown and planning to spend 90% of my time there.

Ken,
I hate to say it, but there is really nothing that can be done. That self-destruction train has left the station and there is no turning back. Even the white man's approach to letting them folks killed themselves off is not working because, when one dies there are 25 more that are born just like them. But look at the bright side, there are 80% of blacks that have jobs there and are contributing to society. Also there are several success stories that we don't we hear about. Recently a school graduated all those black kids and they all were heading to college.

According to reports, black youth population in these major U.S. cities like Chicago has reduced by 20 to 30 percent in recent years.

Yeah, I understand that there are some success stories out there that should be highlighted in the press. But those stories get lost when 10-15 people within a two-block radius get shot over the weekend, or some kid gets shot in the head bringing his dog in from the backyard.

In conclusion, it takes a collective effort from communities to curb this violence.

Man Chicago has a mentality that needs to be changed. Everybody and they momma think they are gangsters. From 80 to 8 years old. It is to many generational gang mentalities that will have to be changed before anything positive comes out of it.

Is it true based on what some people say, and that is "when they tore down Cabrini-Green and Robert Taylor Homes, those people were spread out all over the city and that is actually why crime has sky-rocketed or spiked." If so, I can see why, but I know there are other factors as well.

Sad thing is how many of those boys are going to get used as target practice by those same fools that killed Derrion and other black boys. It always seem to be the ones in college or working that end up getting killed for dumb reasons.

Well look at your communities

Churchs that are not active in their communities.
Sorry leaders that don't do anything.
Sorry leaders that will complain over a name of a school but not about educating kids.
Sorry leaders taht stand behind these very boys that cause the crimes because somewhite cop looked at the boys funny.

I've heard people say that.

I keep telling folks cities that have gun bans are more prone to gun violence. If im a criminal and dont care about going to jail for carrying a gun and know legal citizens dont have one... they're like sitting ducks.

I don't know why our black leaders embrace these gun bans so much.

That is so true. They are killing cops in Chi-town like it is nothing. So you know the average working citizen who don't own or have a gun is a sitting target.

I don't know why our black leaders embrace these gun bans so much.

The majority of blacks are scared of guns. That has somehow been ingrained in their minds and it is impossible to change it. They don't realize that the main reason of banning guns in the first place was to keep them out of the hands of black men so they couldn't defend themselves against whites. Some of these cats up in VA looked at me like I was crazy when I got my concealed weapons permit. Mofos were like why do you need a gun. I just shooked my damn head.

Styles, they should have gun shop back in DC by the end of the year. I plan on copping a new .45 in January.

Ken,

What would a serious discussion on tspn do for the city of Chicago's crime?

No one said it would do anything. Nothing we talk about on here will do anything except be words on a messageboard, so I don't get the logic. :retard:

Just admit that black folks are entertained by foolishness. We prove it everyday.

Allowing people to carry concealed weapons is not going to solve any problems in Chicago, it's just going to add to the number of people being shot/killed. The criminals/thugs/gangstas up here are different...they don't care. They have no soul, no respect and just don't give a fugg. .

As someone said above, when the projects were torn down and the residents had to relocate...that did contribute a LOT to the crime in the Black communities/suburbs they called "home". it's just something wrong with the way some of "us" think. I realized this when there was the big story on the Black gay youth that went up to Boystown (gay area up north) and got caught on camera fighting other Black gays and someone got stabbed. I'm like, "daymn...even when they travel up north to the gay area they are still fighting and shyt". :smh: it's like we always gotta be seen and heard. It's not enough to just be in a large group and have a good time...naw, we gotta prove who we are and where we come from.

I was talking to my co-worker one day about the crime in Chicago, he hangs with a lot of Chicago police officers and he was trying to defend them to a point b/c he said they can only do so much. I replied, "bullshyt". I told him if they worked half as hard as they do up north on the south side then maybe we would see a difference. like when those flash mobs were happening...or a let a crime happen in Lincoln Park/DePaul area...shyt is solved. I lived on the "low-end", WAshington Park and I've watched the police NOT do their job. The Alderman's office told my condo association, "in order to get a response to a "non-emergency" 911 call...at least 5-6 calls need to be made to the police". :smh: So we got a phone tree...and whenever one of us called 911 (whether it's on crackheads in the vacant building across the street, people hanging on street with loud music, boys on corner selling drugs, etc.) if one called 911...we sent a text to every other owner in the building with the description and what to say and they called 911 as well...even if they weren't home. The police would show up...depending on the scenario...but most times just slow down, flash their lights...then keep it moving. Then we would call right back and say, "the police didn't stop and the crime is still taking place, send them back".

There's a no loitering law in Chicago...why not remove the crackheads, prositutes, and drunks from standing in front of EVERY liquor store on the corner?! Oh...that's too much work. Speaking of liquor stores...drive down State street on the low-end from 55th to 59th street...every other corner there's a liquor store; 55th & STate, 57th & State, 59th & State st. Then go over two blocks east to Prairie...there's a liquor store on 58th & Prairie...continue walking east to the very next block (Calumet)...before you even get to Calumet there's a liquor store on 58th st between Prairie and Calumet. WTF?!?! LOL and in front of each liquor store there's a group of people hanging, cars pulling up buying drugs, etc. Open market.

Chicago is fugged up  I was sitting with my cousins last week and all of the males had spent time in Cook County Jail at some point. So one of them says, "man...where the mail lady everybody got their checks but me". So I'm like, "what checks" (I'm nosey as hell LMAO). Basically there was a large lawsuit against Cook County jail for illegal searches and it won, so anybody that went through Cook County jail during a certain time frame...and got searched got some money. So I'm like, "everybody gets the same amount?". He's like, (I cant' remember the exact names of the categories but the amounts correct) "naw...depends on the charge. If you were a misdemeanor you get like about $600...Class 1 or 2 get at least $1000, Felony gets more than that". Then he goes on to tell me how much other members of the family have already received :emlaugh: So I say, "how much you getting", he start smiling and was like, "shyt I got a misdeamor but that Class 2 should get me right". "lol: I reply, "it finally pays off to go to jail huh?!" :lmao:

Is there a solution...I have no idea. There's a mindset in the people that live like this (make the news, drugs, etc.) that needs to change. If we build up the neighborhoods by putting in businesses, stores, etc. all that's going to happen is the white folks will come in and buy everything up and the Black folks will be moved out to another area but the problem will still exist elsewhere. That's how Chicago works.

That's a bad thing?! I mean...I know we all can't be serious and deep in thought all the time like YOU. YOu're oh so deep and knowledgeable like you...but we try. :xeye:

Huh, I am entertained by foolishness too. I neither said whether it was good or bad.

You are telling the truth. My cousins who are dang near 45 still in the streets although they have good jobs. They might not gang bang on the corner anymore, but they still have those connections and keep ties in case they need them. That is just how Chi works. If you don't have affiliates in the streets, your azz is grass. They have no fear of nothing.
