Changes Coming To SWAC Schedule

This could work but the schools, not just the AD's, are not willing to take the risk. Also, as most have said, JSU and SU are normally unwilling to move home games so it would take good management for this to happen. I guess all we need is ONE BCF AD to step up and see if others will follow.

The good thing is that there would be no risk for the schools; all of the risk would be borne by the business units. The business units would be responsible for paying the schools a guaranteed amount for playing the game regardless of the actual profits generated in a specific game. The business unit would be responsible for determing the estimated revenue and expenses associated with the game, and deciding what the payoff would be. The business unit would take a detailed plan and estimated to a bank or another organization that would lend it the upfront money to pay the schools. The business unit would then repay the bank or lending organization from the profits. If the business units runs a deficit in a particular game, the debt can be carried over and payed out of the profits from the next-year's game.

Remember, these units are set up as business units, not run of the mill fly-by-night organizations that only seek to make a cheap killing of the schools.

uuum, what the hell is a business unit??

If it is what I think it is....it's just another name for Classic Promoter.

yeah, you didn't belong in Bham in 2000 or 2002. I still make that claim. JSU was supposed to be there....but what's your point? We had to accept that your loss to GSU and SU did not count while we beat SU and you beat PV. However, in the end it was fair. Everyone knew we were the best team in the EAST.

po po tee pee pee........
Let me see if I can sum this up with as few words as possible......
1. horse ca ca
2. road apples
3. bullsnit
4. merde
5. buffalo bagels
6. chicken snit
7. mule muffins
8. load of crap
9. pamper poo/huggie do do
10.zoo doo

What this change means is that our athletic directors will have to work harder on scheduling. There is no reason for ANY team to have more than one SWAC team as a non-conference opponent. And those matchups really need to be in a classic. When the 7-game mandate was in effect some years ago, I-A teams could not freely schedule I-AA opponents and have a chance at the postseason. Now they can. And we also now have more I-AA schools.
And I agree with the AAMU posters, parity is here. That's right....because we all SUCK this past year. There really wasn't much difference between the top schools and the bottom schools. But I give AJ credit because he had his team fundamentally sound and that was enough to win it all. But I sincerely hope that won't be enough in the future.

Some of the "haves" couldn't win the games on their schedule, so they cried like banshees when their team was wrapping Christmas presents on the same day as the SCG.

Look man..................Whatever.

Bottom line is the 9 game mandate is gone.
If you can't promote your own dang school and product for yourselves then move out and open the door for another team to move in.

It's gone..................Post all the bs you want.
The SWAC WELFARE SYSTEM has been abolished.

JSU won't have to work hard.

No kidding.

We had to drop 2 out of conference 1-aa schools in the last 3 years because of that 9 game mess.

We could not get FAMU back on...................Now that a SURE FIRE GO.
And maybe............We could open those talks back up with Georgia Southern.
And remember.................USM wanted more than 1 game with us according to their new AD.

Getting 3 other teams plus Tennessee St. worked in won't be hard at all.
And we can plan home and homes years into the future instead that year by year wait and see crap the 9 game mandate created.

How long would you think it would take for these games to be able to:

1). Be profitable
2.) Draw that many people
3.) Have a payout that influences an SU or JSU or even Alcorn to move a game?

We have to learn to be patient. Very few business organization make significant profits when they first began operations. It takes time to identify the market and make your target market aware of your product and to change from another product to your product. In light of that, we have to be prepared to work at it for a while before the maximum benefit is realized.

The more we know about a market the better idea we can have about its potential. For example, if Jackson State broke away from the Southern Heritage in Memphis and the SWAC created its own classic, we would have a basis projecting how much revenue could be generate. We would have a basis to estimate revenue from the attendance. Based on a good estimate of the attendance, would could make a good basis to estimate revenue from hotel rooms, parking, and expenditures on food. Based upon all of this, we should be able to estimate right away how much revenue the business unit would receive, and make an easy determination if the business unit could pay one of those schools enough to justify moving a home game.

If we created a classic style game in say, Denver, we would have to estimate the attendance without any historical evidence to rely upon. Obviously, it would take a couple of years before we could get an idea about whether tsuch a game would be feasible there.

Remember, again, the purpose of the classic type games would not be to obtain home games from teams that draw full stadium of fans; these games would benefit most the teams that do not draw well at home. But both teams would benefit because the "away" team would be paid just like the "home" team, only less so.

And maybe............We could open those talks back up with Georgia Southern

Why Georgia Southern? Georgia Southern is about 9 1/2 hours from Jackson. JSU fans will not travel to Georgia Southern and Georgia Southern will not travel to Jackson. Try scheduling teams like Troy State, Tulane, Southern Miss, Louisiana-Layette or Louisiana-Monroe.

SWAC WELFARE SYSTEM / THE HAVE/HAVE NOTS- Someone please explain this concept because my interpertation is not making sense to me.
What I understand the GREAT ones - THE big three to be saying is that being on the schedule of the seven remaining members of this GREAT, POWERFUL, and most recognized SWAC conference provides them with a financial windfall that if not there would cause them to not survive. And I'm guessing that the economy of said city where school resides would also ceast to exist. Now I'm wondering just how many years have any of those seven remaining schools played football and of that where they all associated with the SWAC. How have they managed to survive all of these years? YOU BLACK PEOPLE ON THIS BOARD TRULY AMAZE ME WITH YOUR BULLSHAT. DO YOU EVEN KNOW WHATS REALLY IMPORTANT? At the end of the day each school will field a football team and schedule the necessary games to fulfill a schedule and the fans of each school will do what the would normally due regardless of the opponent.

Don't forget yall played A&T for awhile as well.

We could play any MEAC team we want except FAMU because they are booked up. In the last five years, we have played Howard, FAMU, A&T, and Hampton. Unfortunately, we lost most of those games but that was not the norm for JSU pre-Bell. We used to kick out-of-conference azz!!

I just said Georgia Southern because we had to drop out of talks with them after Culbertson left because the one date we had open could not be matched with their's last year.
Same with Lou-Laf.

You right about the drive, but I would really like to play those guy's again.
A better move would be the Louisana teams.

McNeese, get Southeastern back on or Nicholl's.
None is as far as Georgia Southern.
