A six-member crew from ESPN spent three days in Jackson last week filming a segment on Jackson State quarterback Casey Therriault that included a mock rain storm at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The segment on Therriault will air this fall on two ESPN programs — a short version on College Gameday, the popular Saturday morning show that precedes football games, and a longer version on E:60, a weekly investigative journalism program.

Kory Kozak, the producer of the show, said run dates haven’t been determined but “early October” is likely.

The segment focuses on Therriault’s rise from a jail cell in Michigan in 2009 to being one of the best quarterbacks in the Football Championship Subdivision heading into this season.

Therriault tied a school record with 31 touchdown passes last season and was third in the FCS in yards a game.

A few JSU players, including linemen Roderick Gladney and Stephen Capler, tight end Renty Rollins and receiver E.J. Drewery, joined Therriault for ESPN’s main shot Wednesday night at Memorial Stadium, where two Jackson fire trucks were used to simulate a driving rain storm.

Hoses, shot from an 100-foot tall ladder, spewed water over the locker rooms and onto the end zone to the 15-yard line, where players simulated a game as ESPN’s high-definition cameras focused on Therriault.
“It’s all part of TV magic,” Kozak said.

Therriault spent about six months in Michigan’s Kent County Jail after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the 2008 beating death of Jonathon Krystiniak. Therriault received the lightest sentence of six charged in the fight, which occurred outside a Grand Rapids, Mich., bar.

Said Kozak: “Casey’s story is a pretty amazing one.IMG_9959-small.jpg

That should turn out great. Hopefully this will put the SWAC in a good light as oppose to some of the antics we have seen this year.

Right....and I thought I heard on this board that Casey was suppose to be leaving........... some folks and their sources...this should give JSU and the SWAC more exposure.........

Re: Casey and JSU on ESPN and College GameDay this Fall........

EXCELLENT!!!!!

This is the publicity that the SWAC needs. I'm no hater of another school I wish every school success in the national scheme of things. I hope he has a good season.

And the dude had the nerve to get defensive when questioned about it.

first off partna yea i did say it cause that is what we were told by the coaches at that time. to shed some more light on it, casey just came back into town. he said he has family in alabama, so thats why he stayed up there. also, i said i hope it wasnt true cause he, along with other players from various schools in the swac, bring exposure to our conference. oan, never use the defensive or any other weak term to refer to me cause trust me i can back up each and every word i say on here or in person.

This story will be all about that white boy and nothing about JSU and HBCU football.

We're sorry we gave the young man a chance, and now the national folk are thinking the story is newsworthy and sent some folk down to ass backwards Jackson to film the story to share with the civilized world. Next time we will tell them motion picture box folk to leave them there fancy motion picture cameras and don't come nowhere's near Jackson.
