Candidates for SWAC Commissioner

Of course nothing is for certain, so don't hold me to this, but I have been informed by reliable sources that the following have applied for the position of SWAC Commissioner.

Willie Jefferies - Former head football coach at South Carolina Sttae.

Marino Casem - Former Alcorn State/Southern head football coach.

Patrick Carter - Current SWAC Associate Commissioner of Compliance.

I am sure there are more, but this is all that I have for now.

I think the SWAC needs a non-SWAC person who brings a non-SWAC experience to the conference office. I am not sure if Jeffries has the vitality and energy to take us to where we need to go. Someone with expertise in marketing and management and media relations should do well. I think the time has come that we look beyoud race and ethnicity in filling this vaccnacy.

Willie Jeffries?? :lmao:

What a joke.

Somehow I knew Casem was going to apply. That's one strange man and that is also a man who hates Jackson State. From the list Kenn has posted, I am all for Patrick Carter.

I'm with Earl...

the next commissioner should be someone who can bring an influx of talent and a new perspective on the way things should be done without RIPPING us off, but hey, I guess folks from SU also remember Whisenton (sp), go figure!!!!

Willie Jeffries is a great man, but I question whether or not someone of his age is willing to put forth the kind of phyiscal and intellectual enery this conference needs to move forward.

I pray that the list has some more names on it. If we choose any of those guys, we just gone sink further and further.

looks like an ex-coaching list if you tell me. I heard Lonza Hardy is a candidate because he knows the system plus he did not just run to Valley for nothing to be AD.

I hope they have just applied, not are serious candidates. But considering the athletic intelligence of SWAC presidents I figure they would put some crazy names on the list.

None of the above! Someone said that we need someone from outside to come in and put a new "prospective" on the SWAC, and I agree with that sentiment. Just one more thing.....Marino Casem? Puuuuuuuuuuuleeeeeeeeeeeeezzzze! :(

Earle,

What non-SWAC person do you know that would want to put up with the BS that the SWAC Presidents have displayed over the years. Race and ethnicity is not the issue here. You can't make people apply for this position. The SWAC can only go with whomever they have to choose from.

On the real, the person who gets this job has just as much at risk as the Conference has in finding the so called "right person" for the job.

Former MEAC Commissioner, Charles Harris just resigned from AD position Dartmouth. Somebody needs to see if he is interest before settling on any of the candidates mention above.

Harris lied about something also, I doubt we need to go back down that SWAC route.

Harris lied on his resume. He indicated that he had a Master's degree from the Univ. of Michigan, but he doesn't. He had to resign as soon as he was hired.

EarleSU, disagree with you giving up on us. There are many qualified SWAC people who can do this job. Certainly, we do not need someone who does not have the energy to do this job. But the SWAC need a hard core individual who can bring the ten schools together. Being new to the SWAC, I can see a lot of division, therefore, it would not make sense to bring someone in who is at the end of a career, but we can use their expertise.

There are several names that are not listed here who I have been told applied will make an excellent Commissioner.

I would love to see a SWAC Alum get this position. I will never look past the thousands of SWAC Alums and say that we have no one who can do this job.

Yep, everything he said!

I seriously doubt that list was a serious list anyway. You always know the real candidates are the people whose names never come out of anyone's mouth

I agree.

I knew I shoulda sent my damn resume in.....damnit

BTW

It sounds like someone wants a white person to get the job. Sorry bud, this aint BR.

Mighty Dog: You misunderstood me. When I said that the Conference needs a non-swac person with non-SWAC experience," I was not suggesting that that a SWAC alum should not be considered or hired. That would be insane and would also exclude myself. What I meant by that comment was that our Conference needed someone outside of the SWAC office or SWAC administration which would exclude Marino Casem and the other guy who currently works as SWAC Associate Commissioner and anyone else whose administrative experience comes solely from the SWAC office.

I want you to know that I am in complete agreement with you and the others who suppported your comments relative to the exclusion of SWAC alums from Commisioner consideratiion.

Now this is SAD.

Earle,

Do you know anything about "the other guy"? How do you know that his expertise comes solely from the SWAC office?

But lets get back to what you said in your first post.

I think the time has come that we look beyoud race and ethnicity in filling this vaccnacy.

In other words, you think a white person would be a better fit for this position. Just admit it!

I will say this again. The SWAC can't make anyone apply for this position. So how the hell can the SWAC hire a person outside of the SWAC if no one from outside the SWAC applies. The SWAC hired Rudy Washington, who was a "Non-SWAC person", and look what happened.
