If there's someone on this board who considers him/herself really good at dominoes, would you please explain to me the basics of the game?

The basics score, score, score..... no for real, add the ends, you can only score in fives, learn a strategy that works for you and believe it when they say.... 'all money aint good money'

Dominoes can be just as complicated as playing poker or bridge. You must as previous stated learn the strategy required to play the game. But if you just want to have fun just match the numbers and count the points you caught the opponent with.

It's more like Rummy(sp), when you want to score points but also keep your opponent from scoring. If you play with me you better get behind me cause I'll keep you from scoring if you're in front of me......

Aint that right, Suge, Plowdog, Robber and all those others that tried it...

But like they said, you get points in multiples of 5, remember that there are only 7 dominoes for each dot set. So you can actually know whats left in peoples hands by reading whats on the table.

Also there is a dominoe vertacular (speech) that is needed when you score.

Examples:

Knock - (pass, I don't have anything to put down) common when playing in front of me.
Nick em but don't cut em - (give me 5 points)
Dime Time - (give me 10 points)
Trip em -(give me 15 points)
Jacksons - (gime me 25 points) Jackson 5 - 5x5=25
Add Janet to that beyotch - (give me 30 points) rare but when playing in front of the wrong peeps will get you this.

There are plenty others depending on where you are playing.

I cant believe he forgot about a boot load.

There is more to dominoes than what's listed. A good player can determine the strengh of the others hand by their playing style. Some play to win, while I play to stay at the table.

Man there is no way that you can explain the game of bones on the interent. You just need to play and get beat downa nd you will get better. i learned from playing with my dad and godfather and getting my head busted.

And Fiyah.........let it go man. I was sick that day and I had a headache! :lmao:

What is your gender? Hard brothers already know the logistics of playing dominoes. We studied in dominology and have became certified domonologist. I have my PH.D to prove it.

I learned the basics from the cats in my neighborhood that went to prison and go out.

I learned it in Fuller Hall at PV, nothing like throwing that mattress to the side on that middle bed and playing on the wooden bed frame.

BAM!!!

Other sayings "Six - Four never domino"
"When in trouble lay a double"

YOu need to also learn how to slam the dominoes. Its an art, and its needs to come with a crisp sound. We preferred to do Jackson's with a Micheal Jackson "hee, hee, hee".

You also need to know how to talk the game. It is not a game like poker for silence. You have to instill chaos with trash talk. Especially in partner games. Prey on the weak partner. Many skilled players will make mistakes trying to cover up the weak sister.

I also learned in Holley Hall... Summer 87. Took a lot of arse beatings and gave a lot.

I learned at Worthing High. I was certified in Fuller Hall. Me and my roommate were legendary in our time for bustin arses in the house on Old 290.

If you can't win, HOLD YO MAN!!!

Trash talk is an art, when you get a partner that you are comfortable w. yall begin to think a like, one thing though, one partner has to be the scorer and the other has to be the defender, unless you both playing to weak arses and pop the head ertime you get a chance..... slamming is real art though, I have seen tables break, figgas, jumpin off of walls slamming, I personally cracked my high school class ring from playing bones, and its 10k so it should have been pretty sturdy.......

Fiyah,

You got lucky with me once, dog. Other than that one time, I pretty much slammed y'all. I thought you were a woodpecker the way I had you knocking.

Anyway, just play the game and learn from the experience. Only playing will help you understand the art of knowing when to take the money and when to lay off the money. You gotta play to learn how to read what's left and who probably has it. Playing helps you keep them damn doubles from dealing at crunch time.

I would suggest you first learn how to add points. Dominoes flow from the "spinner", which is the first double to hit the table. You play from all 4 sides of spinner. Add the ends flowing from the spinner. Remember you only score in multiples of 5, and most people don't allow a mere 5 points to count. 10, 15, 20, and so on. After learning how to add the ends, then start getting strategic. It's like pool in the sense that you gotta learn how to simply knock the balls into the pockets before you start trying to use "english". Keep it simple, first.
