Budget cuts put pause to Jukebox travel!

You crawfish eatin, hatin on dark skinned black folk need to stop calling Jackson country. Baton Rouge and Jackson are on similiar levels. What is so country about Jackson that makes BR looks like NEW York? Ya'll Kountry if we country

Casey, you are showing your slow side again....

With these budget cuts we still travel MORE than jsu......smh...

But you have to be on some serious eww weee if you think SU band ain't coming to Jackson to "Stump" a whole in yall country arse program....

Trust we'll be there....

...also the people over the classic in Shreveport are not paying for the bands to come? Interesting. I can't believe PV agreed to that deal.

You're looking @ this like a "classic" and I think PV looked @ this as a "home game moved elsewhere." lol So, I'm sure there wasn't too much, in terms of travel related $$$$, discussed.

Yep...this is not a Classic game, just a home game that was moved to another venue.

Serious question ... were most of those turnaround trips? Under what circumstances would you all stay in a hotel?

I know back in the day almost all of the games were turnaround trips. There is nothing wrong with coming to the game on game day, eating dinner, doing the game then having a after game meal then getting back on the bus to travel home.

if HBCU alums don't start giving back to our universities, Southern won't be the last to experience this. i hope it motivates the alumni constituency to raise funds for their band program to travel. the university should not have to foot all the expenses for trips (especially in these tough budgetary times).

This is going to be a domino effect if the economy does not turn around soon! I wonder how many fans will show up for the Shreveport now that is known that both bands will not be there?

Southern needs to downsize that "Jukebox" back down to 128 band members and six Dancing Dolls if they want to travel during these tough economic times.

I don't think that would change anything.

Why you say that? It would change the number of mouths to feed, buses to charter and hotel rooms to book.

Dr. Jackson is not going to have that. He wants the Jukebox to be heard from the moon and wants those Dolls to be spread in number - I don't mind that at all! :D

It will not change nothing... They already have a 4 BUS travel policy for the most part... that the same amount of buses needed to travel the size band you just mentioned. If you think SU will travel a band small enough to fit on 2 or 3 buses you done lost your rabbit mind.

I see The Southern Digest is still running strong. That paper has to be one of the best black collegiates in the country when it comes to hard news. The Digest and The Gramblinite have always been legit!

This wabbit says a 128 member band can ride comfortably on three 55 passenger buses.

128 on the field ain't an issue... But SU never roll that small in the stands.... In other words.. not hapnin captain...

Don't worry SU has the strongest program in the whole SWAC we will figure something out.

I'm sure ASU is probably saying 128 needs to be the traveling band during season. That would save money for hotel cost and food cost and transportation cost also because 128 only needs 3 55 passenger buses. I know Grambling only takes the full band to home games and Classic games because the people over the Classics pay for the band travel and it doesn't come out of the band budget. The only time the full band is taken to all the games is if the numbers are low but like in 2004 we were about 275 and only took 168 to away games even against a 300 plus Cookman in a game in Ohio.

I understand what he is saying... SU don't travel 128 total.... 128 on the field yeah... And I am talking before these real BIG SU bands. When were smaller we never traveled 128 "total".. so don't look for that to happen now....

Just like FAMU will never travel what they consider to be "too" small for their standards..... Some bands simply have standards brah....

Since 2006 SU never traveled the "FULL" band... Unless we talking Bayou Classic and by that time the band has been trimmed down a good bit anyways...

128 plus danceline as the traveling unit will only help SU's band budget. I'm sure a 128 band and that 128 is not including the danceline: that amount still can get the job done in the stands also. Hell leave the woodwinds at home lol. Same effect will be felt. I've seen clips on here where Doc Greggs took the 40 plus and the band still was on point so 128 can still do damage i'm sure because of all the brass that SU uses. Just because a band doesn't take the full band doesn't mean it's lowering it's standards it's called budgeting and prioritizing Now the comment about FAMU, FAMU thrives off their size and wouldn't be so dynamic with out it. Would still sound good but would lack the WOW factor because of the lack of size. SU has marched 128 on the field on many ocassions and is brass oriented and can get away with it and still thrash the other band with it's make up. Stands and Field. SU is probably the only band in the SWAC that could get away with only taking 128 horns and percussion, numbers not included for danceline to a game. I don't see anyone else doing that and being successful unless they only took brass but mostly other bands arrangements calls for woodwinds presence.

FAMUs standard is sitting at home!

I am sure that FAMUs alums would prefer to have a pep band in the stands than no band at all. :D

Dude.. Doc took 40 in 89' for campus political reasons.. had nothing to do with the budget..

LOL @ these cats who program still haven't figured it out trying to give SU suggestions...
You don't know what work for us... and what we look for ... 128 is enough for the field.... It ain't what we want on the ROAD son!!!

SU used to roll small but never that small... except for the ONE time in 89'....

SU has a rep to uphold and it too many bands waiting to see a SU band on the road "THAT SMALL"... We ain't taking 128 to a bands backyard that has 250+...
SU don't aim to just DEAL with a band .. we aim to CRUSH bands....

Again...128 ain't what we do in the stands.. You from GSU trying to school me on MY band...come on son.

Go talk to my CB E. Scales that was a student director at GRAM... he know SU better than you.. and he will tell you ...."Brah no..... that is not how SU roll"...

Again, SU gone have it together..

Yall up here shotting out suggestions when SU is a the MOST traveled band during football season in all SWAC.... This budget cut at it's worst will still have SU band making more appearances than most of your bands plan in a good year...

TP you are doing it again...

~exposing your lack of knowledge~

Go ask a FAMU alum or member if they would ever "consider" taking 180 to Mumford...

Your philosophy has changed since Greggs left. What ever happened to the phrase “quality over quantity”? Maybe you all need to bring Greggs back so you all can travel in 2010?

WTH are you talking about?!?! Do you even know WTH you are talking about?

DOC never traveled a band an entire year less than 140.. and that was my junior year...

Quality always comes first... But we also know what it take to get the sound we are looking for...

"ASU"?!?! This is beyond your understanding brah.... if it ain't FAMU, none of yall need to be telling SU what we "should" or "should not" travel...

SU and FAMU are the very few bands that are known for going on the road tearing into bands arses....

I see alot more than TP on here don't know "Band"...lol
