Bucs Deactivate Keyshawn
The Tampa Buccaneers have deactivated wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson for the rest of the season, reports ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli. Losers of three straight games, the defending champions are 4-6 and in danger of missing the playoffs.

If thats what he is good, I say good bye. Too bad that cant strip him of the money he gets paid for each game he misses. Good luck to the stupid team that picks him up.

I've been roaming the Earth looking for some defensive players who can stay healthy for TU. Going into Saturday's game vs. USM, Tulane had 26 players who had missed time (for a total of 142 games), including 18 on defense. SEVEN of those were defensive linemen, including the entire starting line, which was hit with both injuries and academic (university imposed) casualties.
Ouch.
Then Mewelde Moore broke his hand. Ouch. Ouch.
For the last two games, two of our four captains walked out to the coin toss in sweats because they were injured.
Rough, rough, season. The guys are playing hard, but when you're playing an all freshman DL and two frosh in the secondary...
At least they have experience!
My SWAC team will win on 11/29 on the new turf. Print it.
No team with the nickname of "Tigers" is worth anything.

He never got along with Gruden. Remember, Gruden inherited a team. He didn't build it. In fact, he has yet to build a team (or beat the Saints...).
On Mr. Johnson: With Shaun King as QB (one season), he has 8 TDs. With Brad Johnson as QB (2+ seasons) he has 9 TDs. His TD totals also fell off precipitously after Gruden came in. I read an article where they said that he was their go to guy from 20-20, but they went elsewhere in the redzone. Interesting.

Perceptive on both parts. The problem with Keyshawn in the redzone is that other defenses key on him there because of his size AND because Gruden likes the super jumbo package (Sapp & McFarlane) inside the 5. The redzone TD's that KJ got last year were mostly when Joe Jurivicious was in the lineup because they make "twin towers" - hard to triple cover both of them.
No, KJ and Gruden did not see things the same way. KJ wants to make the Hall of Fame and he was not going to do that on a Gruden team. Gruden's approach to offense is that every aspect of the game is done by committee. There is no feature back. There is no featured receiver. Remember that he had Rob Johnson signed to replace Brad Johnson. Thankfully, he got over that. But, look for young Simms to replace Brad Johnson when this contract is up. Keyshawn is still in "throw me the ball mode" and the two are diametrically opposed.
Growing up here on the suncoast, I have been a Bucs fan all of their lives. There has never been a better receiver in a Bucs uniform than KJ. He is one of the best receivers in the NFL between the lines. He sometimes does and says things to protect his younger teammates - like Kenyatta Walker. I understand that he is quite a businessman. After all, he has the Bucs over a barrell:
- He's getting paid without getting hit.
- If they don't cut him in the off-season, they have to pay him something like $9M.
- If they do cut him, he is an unconditional free agent and can pick his own team at his own price.
- They can't trade him because no one else will take the cap hit.
They will just wait for him to be cut.
[/list=1]
KJ's problem is that he wants to be regarded with Harrison and Moss, but he has Biletnikoff speed so he can't get the separation of the other guys. He is a great receiver, but is unwilling to admit his limitations and simply make the best of the great skills that he does have. Being a great receiver is not good enough for him; he wants to be the touchdown maker.

This also came a couple of days after McKay declared that he's not coming back. McKay built the team, and I think that the Glazer family has its hands too involved with the team. There is a reason that Parcells turned the job down. The timing of this thing speaks volumes, especially since no one is saying anything specific about it. They are a 4-6 team with our without Keyshaun, so why not try to get something out of him rather than, as you said, pay him without playing him. There's a lot more to this than, "this guy is not good in the locker room". Sapp isn't the best guy in the room, either, but he listens well to the man in charge. I guess that Keyshaun respects himself too much to do that. Gruden pissed Rice and Brown off in Oakland, and he pissed Keyshaun off in Tampa. But no one wants to point the finger at the coach, unless his name is Tony Dungy, Dennis Green, or Art Shell--all guys who are proven winners. Anyone else wonder why Green and Shell haven't received another shot at coaching, but other coaches with worse records have?
