Why not expel her? There have been other students expelled from their institution for similar actions.

According to various people on Facebook, she has been booted from the team (her name is no longer on the PV soccer roster on their website) and has a meeting with the Office of Conduct. Even if they didn't boot her, she might as well transfer since she has such a hard time "fitting in".

A Prairie View A&M University soccer player who posted to Snapchat in blackface is no longer on campus.
Monday, university president George C. Wright met with more than 400 students and faculty in a forum he called as a response to the viral post. He announced that Brooke Merino is back home with her family in California, at least temporarily.
He also read a letter from Merino to the student body in which she says she had no idea what the term blackface meant before her post went viral, apologizing several times. She says she meant her post as a joke.
"I'm not condoning her actions, but none of you were there when the picture went viral, and she was shaking in fear and anxiety because she had realized what she'd done," her teammate Braelah McGinnis said to the packed room during Monday's forum.

I don't know why they are dragging their feet on this either. She's still enrolled but at home. How many of us would have been allowed this option?

I know you folks think I am being funny or ignorant but the truth is this is the diversity that this generation wanted. Let's be real every ethnic group in America says and does racist stuff. When you mix it up in a blended environment this what you get. The minority in the melting pot at the spectrum will feel some type of way about the majority in the mixture. Get use to it.

I had a crab brother who was dismissed from the Marching Storm because he was caught smoking in uniform after the SFC. Why? Because he was representing the University and could've drawn negative attention. This girl apparently has made other comments on social media prior to the black face incident so this follows a pattern as far as I'm concerned. Non-Blacks have attended PV for decades and there are multiple Hispanic and/or multi-cultural fraternities/sororities/organizations on campus. They have no problems fitting in and respecting PV's campus life and culture.
There are certain allowances that many Blacks tend to give when non-Blacks get themselves in trouble. They can't self-destruct without us trying to cape for them. Suddenly everything becomes a "teachable moment" or we are pressured to forgive. Some even go farther and dismiss or go off on tangents placing the blame on other Blacks (ie we can't discuss police brutality without one of us talking about black on black crime). Lets be real, some Blacks gain a sense of validation when non-Blacks are a part of our institutions so tolerance and understanding is almost always granted without hesitation. I've seen so many excuses and OPINIONS as to why she did what she did all the while ignoring the only FACT that's staring right at us. Sometimes it is what it is. Should she be forgiven? Yes. Should the University continue to subsidize her education and grant her the privilege of representing PV? Hell no

I agree. This is why it pisses me off when black folks want white folks at our school's or in our organizations so bad. Most of them hate blacks and no matter how poor, uneducated or no matter the case they feel they're better than us.

A PV alum posted the first bold on Facebook and I almost lost it lol (try to respect my elders). My soror said basically what you said in the second bold about bending over backwards to please them on our campus when the only reason she's on our campus is because she's a marginal D1 soccer player who probably couldn't anywhere else above the SWAC. I said her teachable moment could be enrolling at a JUCO next semester and playing soccer somewhere else. She's not learning anything if the president is coddling her and other students are talking about "more important that need to be addressed like rap music". Like really?
@662, you nor I have the title of "president of Prairie View A&M University of TEXAS." Dr Wright knows what he's doing. If he did not, he would not be our president for the last 17+ years and counting present tense.
In the end, everyone is entitled to their opinion. Regardless of how wrong their opinion is. lol it's a very teachable moment that others are learning from, I'm sure, as PVAMU continues to augment diversity in its student base.

You all didn't make fun of her did you? It takes a lot of fortitude to return and face the music. She'll be better for it. Those coming behind her will see better from it.
