Braddy urges fans be patient

Jackson State football coach Rick Comegy is not on the hot seat despite a vocal section of fans, athletic director Bob Braddy said Tuesday.
The Tigers fell to 0-3 for the first time since 2004 behind an offense that has averaged just 10.3 points. JSU hadn't been held to 31 points or less over a three-game stretch since James Bell lost the final three games of his career with a combined 29 points in 2005.
"Certainly we're concerned, but we're no more concerned than Coach Comegy," Braddy said. "The staff is working hard and he's working hard. (In sports), all you need is one spark to get the momentum moving the other way.
"The season is long. It hasn't started the way we hoped, but the bigger games are still to come."
Three consecutive losses may be disappointing, but Jackson State is 0-0 in the SWAC and still controls its own destiny in terms of winning the league.
"I've gotten e-mails and calls of concerns," Braddy said. "We have a very tough fan base. They understand one thing, and that's winning. Sometimes they're not very patient and they have a right to express their opinions.
"We just encourage them to be patient ... and give the coaches the chance to fight through this thing. The same fans that are unhappy right now will be singing their praises later on."
