Black Colleges Disappoint Again on NFL Draft Weekend

scouts pop in tape against D-1, PWC FCS teams immediately to see where you stand.....As for technique, Hamilton has the pass rush skills and even Garrett acknowledges it as he said 22.5 sacks is 22.5 sacks...He was a D-1 guy to begin with so that helps also

but the agent does play a role and if your a late round pick, alot of teams will string you along late....you got to earn an early round draft grade to be safe

Here is Adrian Hamilton's scouting report.

Led the nation with 20.5 sacks; joined Chris Gocong and Robert Mathis as the only players to record more than 20 sacks in a season... Looks like a NFL player, has a chiseled physique with little body fat; also helped his cause by running a 4.70-40 at his pro day... Great athlete; is definitely athletic
enough to play in a 3-4 defense and of course has the pass rush ability that teams look for... Excellent speed rush, has a great first step and can bust past any tackle that stands in his way... Has a nice spin move that could be fine tuned but should do the trick as well... Has a good shoulder dip move when going around an offensive tackle; his athleticism allows him to get really low but still maintain his balance and speed... Has a great motor; relentless pass rusher and tore up his competition using it... When he gets a sack the quarterback feels it the next day; a vicious but clean hitter.

The biggest worry about Hamilton is probably his level of competition; played low level FCS football and it's a legitimate question whether his production can translation to the next level... A little bit undersized standing at only 6-2... Is strictly a 3-4 OLB, not nearly big enough to play defensive end in the 4-3 except in obvious passing situations... Dropping into coverage will be a big issue for him; has never done it before and must if he wants to stick... A coach is going to have to spend some extra time with him to basically retool him as a player... Needs to learn that offensive lineman will be able to pick up on his speed rush and will need to have at least a respectable bull rush... Needs to polish his technique and use his hands to disengage a blocker.

Nah. 22.5 sacks in the SWAC is not the same as 22.5 sacks in the SEC. Sorry. It takes a whole 'nother level of talent and skill to get 22.5 sacks on that level. And that's the difference - talent and skill. Do you really think a player with 22.5 sacks at LSU would go undrafted? Why or why not? Please don't say because of agents.

Oh, really?

Seems like somebody just said that ....

Quality of competition. Knowledge of the position. Technique. Will have to be totally retrained because he was poorly coached.

You don't say ....

Michael Brockers of LSU was taken in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft by St. Louis and he only recorded two sacks last year.

I was about to say that...

Just like the player from Tuskegee who was drafted in the 2nd round a few years ago with 14 interceptions in a season. That's a lot of interceptions no matter what level you play it. 20.5 sacks is 20.5 sacks. Especially at a Division I school... SEC, WAC or SWAC.

Jackson's production had dropped after his sophomore year...he has to have a great senior year...Hamilton numbers or better

Hard to say was he poorly coached because that's the knock on alot of our FCS guys....that same d-line coach who coached him sent to guys rawer than him and who played other positions before going to the defensive line to the NFL and both made active rosters.....he was also coached by an LSU grad who was a high pick of the Buffalo Bills

they're more concerned about him going to the 3-4 but he has impressed so far

Hamilton is in a camp for America's team.....he must be good

He may have been the best player on a very bad defense. I saw him play twice. Nothing he did made a difference nor
did he jump off the screen. In one game, BethuneCookman could have easily scored 80 points. In the other game JSU had 700 yards
of offense. How the hell does one team have 400 yards passing and 300 yards rushing in one game? He didnt make a difference.

Not one time in the JSU game did he turn the corner on our tackle. Yeah he got 2 sacks, but it had nothing to do with him beating his blocker and chasing down the passer. I wish him well....maybe he just didnt show up those two days. I specifically watched him in S'port and he did nothing to impress.

teams held him constantly and ran to the opposite side

But I can say the same about Casey.....was it the system? Obviously since Case Keenum nor Kellen Moore was drafted
