The past two coaches we've had both won on the field and ran clean programs...still there's criticism. Broadway was undefeated at home for 4 seasons, yet some said it was too "boring" and blamed the attendance on that fact. (Although the numbers show the attendance has been down prior to and after). It ain't about winning... our fans like whining. Ar these coach's faultless? Of course not...but all things considered, it ain't them who is the problem (not in totality)
Broadway wasn't exactly knocking off Southern every year in the Bayou Classic either.
Pete Richardson was winning games down at Southern, he just started slacking on the Academic side of the game. But, he's the type of program building coach that HBCUs need more of A new era of HBCU Football Fans became fully aware of Southern Football because of his ability to have Southern win in Nationally Televised Contests such as the Jaguars' Heritage Bowl appearances and of course victories in the Bayou Classic. He also almost knocked off Tulane, I saw that game on Television up here in Maryland, and he won the First SWAC Football Title Game, which I also saw on BET. How'd he do against McNesse St, Nichols State, and Northwestern State... he won a few of those too, right??
I think it's important to recognize high quality Coaches when we have them, and to keep them for as long as they are productive, and also not until a proper replacement who can truly advance the strides made by the previous coach-- can be brought in.
