Black College Baseball Poll

Why is that so? most pwc's have all or majority black players in basketball for sure. What is it called when we make statements like that? Something other than racism, I think not.

You missed her point. At the PWCs you will not see an all black baseball, tennis or golf team. Hell you may not see one brother on any of those teams. The only sports the PWCs have a majority black team is football and basketball. So the point she is trying to make is that as HBCUs if we have all white/hispanic teams in these sports and the PWCs are doing the same. Where are our black baseball players, golfers and tennis players? Don't tell me it aint none. Because we have them. Especially baseball. I know the real good kids are going pro from HS. But don't tell me you can't find no decent black baseball players around the country. It's nothing wrong with having a white kid or hispanic kid or a few on our teams. But when they are the majority then I have a problem. At least Cador looks for black kids to play baseball. And yes he has hispanic kids that have played. Look at Pubela our now assistant coach and former ss. But I would be pissed if SU's team was majority white or hispanic. Just my two cents. I guess I am racist for my comments.

JR,

I don't think that you are a racist. For may years it was very difficult for a black QB to play at major universities well after integration. Things have surely improved as time progressed in this area. To be oblivious to the fact that improvements need to be made in other areas is not very prudent. HBCU's have always been a training ground for AA when we have been disenfranchised in other disciplines. I think it is a correct aspiration to expect HBCU's to recruit AA baseball players and give them opportunities to hone their skills considering the crisis that has been nationally publicized. That crisis being the eroding sum of AA baseball players in our country. Also, I think it would be prudent of all to acknowledge that albeit much has been accomplished as it relates to racial concerns, there is great progression that need to be made. Just because we have the right to be somewhere doesn't mean that preconceived notions and injustice does not disenfranchise many AA from certain arena's. In these instances, I think HBCU's have an obligation to make sure that we don't become obsolete and continue to build the bridge to mainstream society for those that are under served. I believe this mission can be accomplished without total segration. Hence, we do not have to overlook talent from other ethnicities.........One black man's opinion.......Peace

I agree JROCK. As HBCUs we should be inclusive to other ethnic backgrounds. By no means do I want to be segregated. I would however expect we do our due diligence to recruit AA kids to those sports but sure we can recruit other ethnic backgrounds. But I do not want to see my baseball team look like Valley's. I can understand BCC and the hispanic kids on that team. I am sure alot of hispanic kids attend BCC as regular students and of course the ethnic makeup of Florida is definitely different from Ms and La. I played baseball growing up in the SIP and I know Valley could have recruited some black kids to play baseball. Hell they used to get some from my old HS and back then we had a mixed team that was a power. Now the majority of the HS in Jackson are black. I know all those kids aint going to Ole Miss and Ms State. Heck they didn't when baseball was competative in the 80s. So what the hell happened? I know black kids don't play baseball like they do football and basketball. But there are some who still play. Enough where our HBCUs can get some. Because they shole aint on the PWC rosters. Just watch the amount of AA players in CWS. You can count the amount on one hand from all the teams.

The majority of blacks are playing the high profile sports of football & basketball, thats why HBCU's & PWC's have them in those sports. The field narrows very much in golf, tennis and baseball. I see it at my sons level in baseball where he is the only one on the team and he's playing select ball. There are 2 hispanics and the rest are white. Then when I see the teams that we play and the majority of them are white & hispanic so the competition to find good black players are high. You have to remember that these coaches are held to a standard to produce a winner and to do that they have to get what they need to win.

Been away from the SWAC page a couple of days and just say this post. JR summed up my thoughts on the subject. As I said in my original statement, I understand why the coaches take these paths but I don't like to see HBCU schools become the same thing as our majority white instituions. We are slowly seeing the "token" black on our golf teams, tennis teams, and baseball teams. Where's the opportunity for all of those blacks that are no longer making the team because the coaches aren't even looking for them (it's not even the case that they aren't good enough because they aren't really being recruited to see if they can compete). That's what kills me. I don't have a problem with whites, hispanics, or anybody else playing at our schools. I don't have a problem with white basketball players, football players, or whatever at our schools. I just don't like feeling that our kids aren't being given a chance at our schools....the very place that has always been there to give opportunities when they weren't available anywhere else.

I feel like this big schools in the Sec Big Ten, Acc or whatever have been doin it for years. Look at Ole Miss They still act kind of funny toward blacks but yet look at their basketball team and football team. But How many whites do you see.

ASU SPLITS TWINBILL AGAINST FAMU

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Some late-inning dramatics helped Alabama State win the first game of a doubleheader against Florida A&M but the inability to get the ball over the plate by the Hornet pitching staff in game two led to a split at Paterson Field.

ASU won the first game 7-5 but fell in game two, 22-7.

In game one, ASU took a led 3-1 after five innings on the strength on a two-run home run by Samson Ervin and run-scoring double by Ashley Allen. ...

Did yall know that Jackson St., Southern and Grambling are theonly schools that have won SWAC Championships in baseball so far....

I didn't know that til yesterday.

NOISE TALKA,

I realized that about three years ago and way simply amazed and astonished. I was reviewing a sounvenir booklet during the SWAC Spring Tournament Championships and discussing Texas Southern University's chances coming into that tournament with a 20 plus win season and 2nd best record in the conference behind Southern.

I was even more perplexed when considering the fact that the SWAC must not have offered baseball as a sanctioned conference sport during the founding (1920) and early years of the conference i.e. before Grambling State, Southern, and Jackson State joined the conference. I would have considered this to be a very friendly baseball era. Especially with the modern Negro League founded in 1920.

I was shocked to hear that also. Does anyone know what year they started giving out championships for baseball in the SWAC?

There are 2 SWAC squads that have won as many games as FAMU that both have winning records. Why are they #4 with a sub .500 record? Is their schedule that tough?

East coast bias..... errr....... pollsters

East coast bias..... errr....... pollsters
:(

11 of PV wins come from non Div. I programs.
5 for Jackson State.
I don't see any non- D-I opponents on FAMU's schedules

I could see questions about bias if everyone played D-I, but this topic comes up every year. :argue2:
