Are there any Birmingham Peeps on Board? I will be there with my Church's Young People's Dept. this weekend. We will visit the 16th Ave. Baptist Church, A Mall and a Park that is associated with the Civil Rights Movement.

You're kidding right? You mean where SWAC is headquartered? :D

Kelly Ingram Park. That and the Civil Rights Instituate are some very educational and interesting places. And IIRC, SWAC HQ faces the park.

If you get the chance, check out the 4th Ave district (Kelly Ingram Park is only a block away). It's got the AL Jazz Hall of Fame and it's the historical Black business district. McWane Center is also in the area if you like exhibits on scientific exploration & discovery and IMAX theatre shows. It's for the kids mainly, but it's got something for all ages. Enjoy!

Hey there,

Unfortunately, I won't be here this weekend...will be in L.A. for work (anyone know some SWAC folks I can call in la-la land??).

At any rate, you should send Sharpy a note. He knows er'body and er'thang in B'ham. I'm just hoping you aren't going to Eastwood/Century Plaza Mall...please don't. Hopefully, they will be taking you to the Galleria instead!

Have fun!

Sorry I'm going to miss you.

Unfortunately, it looks like Eastwood Mall is closed, at least everything except for Parisian & Books a Million (maybe the bank and the library are still open too). Century Plaza is the latest to start opening stores for "us", meaning many of the name-brand stores you know of are gone. It's a shame how folks love riding the wave of the "affluent" out of town. :smh:

Well, if you're riding ;) you might as well go to the Summit. I agree it's a very classy outdoor mall. Galleria is good too, but more crowded and fewer of the "chic" places.

JagBR, how was the 'ham?

KB, I definitely like The Summitt Mall, but I was suggesting the least expensive mall. And I forgot about Brookwood.

Well, I hope they had a good time.

We had a wonderful time!!!! We visited the Galleria Mall, 16th Ave. Baptist Church, The Civil Rights Institute and Kelly Ingram Park. We also went Bowling. The kids enjoyed it very, very much. Birmingham is a beautiful city.We stayed at The Drury Inn.

JagBR,

I'm glad you enjoyed The Magic City. I've lived a lotta places, and although I don't live there anymore, Birmingham is still my favorite.

Come back again. :wavey:

Don't tell any of these people that you actually found something to do in B'ham. They might actually want to keep the SWAC championship there if you do. :smh:
