Bill aims to build new stadium for JSU athletics

PV spent $60 million for a stadium & building 10 years ago - and there are still some things they didn't get once you get inside of it -

you'll need damn near $100 million to get a small but fully functional stadium
Bama State really did it right with their first phase.

We have some really nice aspects but agreed there are things we cut that we should’ve kept. Budget would’ve gone to $100M+ quickly though

The longer you wait .. these prices jumping up. We built Crews Stadium for 10 million in 96… 22k seats and 19 premium skybox suites. On the other hand our arena was 70 million 4 years ago.

Can’t JSU go to the bond market to finance the construction of the stadium. That’s what Bama State did.
Different states have different rules. I know in Texas the public schools can issue bonds if approved by their voters but the colleges and universities can't since they're funded differently.

If that’s the case in MS, then JSU will have a hard time raising $210 million for a new stadium. It would make financial sense to continue playing at Veteran Memorial Stadium.

Not directly

The IHL would have to do it (which is over all 8 public schools. None have their own BOTs)

To put it in perspective, Valley (not surprisingly) has over a $100 million backlog as far as outdated buildings on campus that have to be replaced

This dorm has been vacant for 10 years on campus. They just tore it down

Thank God, Bama State and AAMU achieved their independent BOTs in 1976.

That can be a blessing and a curse with “US”…. Thankfully over the past 2 presidents it has been a blessing with us.
True, we know all about the infighting among Board members. Luckily, Dr. Ross has projected the University in a positive direction, new programs, new facilities, strong support of our athletic programs, and a sizable increase in our endowment.

Jackson State has not made any indication that it is pursuing funding for a new stadium. Instead, the university aims to secure funding for repairs. In its legislative priorities for fiscal year 2027, JSU requested $19 million for stadium structural repairs.

The Clarion Ledger contacted Jackson State, which did not provide a comment on March 5.

The project would focus on "addressing immediate life safety and code compliance issues to ensure the facility remains safe and operational for public use." The proposed renovations would "stabilize the facility and reduce liability while allowing continued limited use during the planning and design of long-term upgrades."

I do have a question for those knowledgeable about JSU. Is it true that the original location of JSU is across the street from where the VET is today? I believe that location is occupied by private college today.
