MD,

As a matter of fact, the Bama State vs. A&M Rivalry is pretty tight record-wise.

We should not just limit this to just football only. The rivalry in other sports have been pretty heated in the SWAC over the past couple of years -- especially in men and women's basketball.

For example, Alcorn State vs. Jackson State or Bama State vs. A&M in men's basketball or Alcorn State vs. Grambling State or Alcorn State vs. Alabama State (most recently) in women's basketball.

Please let me know what your take is on this.

DC, I agree with you because a rivalry is in all sports. We don't like to lose to Alabama St. Because of SU losing to AAMU on homecoming a few years ago the Presidents have turned this into a rivalry. I heard about a rivalry in baseball and I cannot remember if it was between SU/GSU or Jackson were involved, but I believe the President of the University coached one of the baseball team. My old coach said that one of the schools only lost one game that season and the coach that lost the game said if that pitcher is that good why isn't he playing for me. His assistant said you cut him.

Maybe someone is familiar with this story. I cannot remember all the details. But Crews was at Alcorn at the time. and it could have been Alcorn.

JSU vs. SU

The mere fact that a game of this magnitude is not a classic speaks volumes. No other matchup mentioned on this thread can make the same claim. The game stands on its own. A BCF purest's dream. No step shows, no concerts, no gimmicks to draw a crowd.

..... And the fact that the all-time series between the two schools is separated by a single game doesn't hurt its case either.

1. GSU/SU - Thanksgiving, The Big Easy, FridayNight,Superdome, Celebrities,Halftime, NBC,French Q.and Bourbon St. on Saturday night, Smack Sunday, ect. Go every year. Unbelievable rivalry (College's Greatest)The Greatest Classic Alltime and needs to be in NCAA College Football Rivalry's Hall of Fame. Got to see it to believe it. Nuff said

2. SU/JSU - Don't got to be a classic to be great rivalry with the swac's best two fans and top bands in black college.Love to see both schools play.

3. ASU/AAMU - Great attendence, airs on BET every year, and a different team wins it every year. Love watching it.

4. JSU/Alcorn-Good Attendance, Airs on BET, Exciting rivalry to watch, good bands (especially JSU),And would be better if Alcorn sneak a win in.

TSU/Pvamu-Haven't see in person but both have great bands (especially PVAMU),And excellent school spirit.

So JagNation, help me out with your question.

I think SU/AAMU, JSU/AAMU and GSU/AAMU are in the making.

Are you serious MD?

Although I agree with you that the SU/AAMU match-up is becoming intense, it is far from being called a rivalry. (unless you live in my house) ;) Secondly I noticed that almost every school that plays AAMU is being considered a rivalry.....why is that? I thought yall were just fresh meat in the SWAC :D You still my my dawg #2 Smacker :lmao:

THE MERE MENTION OF THE ICON GRAMBLING DRAWN FANS, USUALLY MORE THAN SOMES OWN HOMECOMING, SO MOST ASSUME ITS A RIVALRY.

:

Have you ever been to a JSU/SU game? I have to differ with you on this one man.....Strongly

For the first time, I'd have to agree with you GR....y'all don't like us and we dayum sure don't like y'all.

2 more

If you wanna talk numbers...then you might as well throw GSU vs PV in the mix. The football game is trash but PV makes it interesting for the first 8 mins of the game before we put our scrubs in. Plus halftime is always full of electricity. GSU vs UAPB is becoming a hot rivalry also.

MJ, every since I enrolled in AAMU and before, no team wants to lose to AAMU. I don't know what motivates them, but when they line up against us it is a different ball club. One thing that we learned is that we went away from in state ballplayers to a majority of out of state. We had a lot of Athletes who had no feeling for the intensity of other teams against AAMU to include a few coaches. To them it was just a game. But when we played the game, you did not want to return home losing the Alabama Champioship (Miles, Tuskegee, Al.St and AAMU). Most of these players knew each other from high school. I can tell you that AAMU is a state school, but in its association with all the Private Colleges, we always had the private school environment. 90% of our faculty were alums of private colleges (church schools). It was strictly education. They did not care if you missed class for away games they expected you to keep up with the rest of the the class. There were no reviews or tutors. You had to get friendly with a young ladies so she would share her notes with you. (smile) We became more vocal, because of having to keep these well to do kids at other schools in place.

As you can see we have the same situation in the SWAC. I don't think things will change or our demeanor will change. We never cared about championships in the past. But things are changing on the Hill. I have mentioned many times that our goal is to take over the SWAC. We are putting the resources behind our efforts. Will it happened, we don't know but it will not be because of a lack of effort. When I say that most schools are not going to put much more into their programs, this is true. The only other school that I know is doing the same thing is Alcorn. You know Cassem is not going to be a loser. GSU is leading the pack at the moment, but JSU and SU will remain the same. It be up to the coaches to work with what they have at SU and JSU.

Don't forget, I said the SU/AAMU rivalry is at the Presidential level. This game has generated a lot of fan interest. In fact, the JSU and GSU are very big games for us. Not that we discount anyone on the schedule, but when you have the President supporting Athletics you have to win. We are on our way.
If TnSt or FAMU were in the SWAC and had to play a SWAC schedule week after week they would not do that well. We talk trash smack but there is some reality to this madness. AAMU need depth to reload. We are going to win some big games this year, but those of you who say us play in the past, know that some dumb playes were called.:D

Sure as hell made a point

MD,

I have to agree with you on the fact that A&M actually puts their resources behind their efforts. I have noticed that every time that I go on campus, something new is being built, whether it is with athletics or otherwise. I have also noticed that A&M's sports teams are well represented in their gear when they travel.

Way to go!!!

DC,

The bottom line:

We don't want to hear any coach say; I could have won if you had done this. The new thing is you better asked for it up front and if it does not violate NCAA rules, you will get it.

The new basketball coach was told that you have a budget, 15 scholarships, two full time assistants, no recruiting limits and no teaching duties. Now what else you need to beat SU and ALST to win a Women Basketball Championship? :D

The Statefair Classic is a prime expample of rivalry in a wierd sense. This has to be the most lop-sided true classic of all time. PV has beaten Grambling once since the classic has been going on, yet the attendence continue to increase. They probably have the best promoters of all games. Anybody that doesn't say realistically GSU or Su is smoking, drinking or both.

Dayum Straight.........

MD,

I wish that they would do things like that at more HBCUs, maybe there would not be so much turnover throughout the ranks.

By the way, who is your new women's basketball coach?

It is amazing they way someone talks a lot of isht but catch them at a serious moment and you find out the real truth. You find out that they really understand what they pretended to not understand.

Mighty Dog ... I have mentioned many times that our goal is to take over the SWAC. We are putting the resources behind our efforts. That's why we are the big three, I see you do understand.

I see you also really understand what we were saying years ago when yall beat Southern before you were in the SWAC. It's a big difference. In the SWAC, every game is a showdown, and you better come ready to fight every week.

I see you are not as dumb as you act on the smack page. THat is nice to know. Carry on.

Here's my take...

I voted for SU/GSU, but I must admit that since JSU thrashed SU in Mumford bout 10 years ago, it has been in the back of the minds of TRUE Jaguar fans to give those boys some come uppence. The same thing with FAMU.... It has nothing to do with those guys on the field, but us fans cuz we REMEMBER certain things those guys only hear or read or vaguely remember.

Either way it goes, no matter what anyone says, the biggest rivalry as we speak is JSU and SU. They have us two years straight, the games have been close and there has always been controversy! Not saying that is what makes a rivalry, but it dayum sho make you want to see how the next game turns out. Besides, I have a ton of friends from JSU who talk mega isht and it's good to be able to hear them talk isht for two years in a row.

Also, GR was right...no gimmicks, no classics, just two teams led by two knuckas and both bands jammin' their buttz off!!!

I gotz to admit...I sho likes it when JSU enters Mumford with "Get Ready"! I'll pull for all ya'll arses when you play anybody else outside the SWAC! Dayum ....I LOVE football season!!!!!

Lewis, did you just learned that we are just born smart up here in North Alabama. SU can no longer reload. Pete will tell you that y'all need to increase his budget on the same level with AAMU. How much do your assistant coaches make? Don't tell me but check all the SWAC schools out.

I don't know what it is about SUcks rogue fans that just make you want to kick them in the arse. The majority of them don't know jack about football, but they have mastered running their mouth. I remember tapping that butt in Nawlins and this old lady (possibly Momma Jag) was crying. I just look at her starting laughing and said, "If you don't stop that damn crying, we are going to drag you back on that field and spank that butt again." Being from Baton Rude, she was ready to hit me with her cane. Those SUcknites always want to fight.:lmao:

Wow Blue Bengal, It seems as if you described the way Jackass State fans act. As always you Jacksass state fans do the most trash talking of any swac school. I guess the trash talk would be ok if you all won a ring lately. Save all the smack when Jackass state comes home with a trophy.
