I think the attendance numbers are skewed. I think a lot more people would travel to the Bayou Classic if they knew that was the only way to watch the game. So many people I know, that used to travel VERY long distances to come to the game, realize that they can get great coverage of it on NBC.

The Bayoo will always be the most famous because of NBC. However, I?ve been to the Atlanta Classic, Florida Classic and the Bayoo Classic. Truthfully, they are all about the same. 70,000+ people at each game. Step show, parades, concerts. celebrities, etc.

Any BCF game that can draw 70,000 and be nationally-televised is the granddaddy of them all. The Bayou Classic is a household name.
I went to the Atlanta Classic in 1999, the ambiance and fanfare inside the dome can not hold a candle to the Bayou Classic. Now, the stuntin' on Peachtree is another story.

Other random rivalry thoughts, I think the Cal-Berkeley/Stanford rivalry is underrated and the Clemson/South Carolina rivalry lost steam when the Gamecocks left the ACC and joined the SEC...i didn't hear anyone talk about the Red River Shootout (OU-UT in Dallas) or the Bedlam game (OU-Okla. State...but I like the name of the series though :swink: )
Another thought ..what about rivalries that aren't really rivalries ..like Tennessee vs. Kentucky for the Old Oaken Bucket ..or Tulane vs. LSU ... or Grambling vs. PV ... or Nebraska/Missouri ... Nebraska/Colorado... or Miami and the rest of their new ACC opponents except for the "Criminoles (gotta love UF fans)" and Va Tech.

I've seen some folks list Michigan/OSU as the biggest rivalry, and some list Alabama/Auburn.
I grew up in Alabama, and I've lived in Michigan for the last 10 years, so I have a little perspective on the atmosphere and feeling of both rivalries.
Folks, OSU/Michigan comes NOWHERE CLOSE to the intense palpable hatred felt between Alabama and Auburn. The Michigan Ohio State rivalry is not talked about here year round like the Alabama Aubirn rivalry is down in Alabama. Part of that has to do with the fact that College football has so much competition here in southeast Michigan with 4 pro sports. When Hockey season comes these people forget all about OSU/Mich. They're all into the Red Wings. They have Pistons fever now.
Down in Alabama College Football (especially Alabama and Auburn) college football is King! Whatever's next is running a far distant second.
As for HBCU rivalries, I would throw TU/Morehouse in there as a big rivalry (measured in intensity, not crowd size. That game is played in a small 25,000 seat stadium). Though it's kind of onesided (TU has a big series lead), the 2 schools hate to lose to one another.

I feel you on that Shelt. I too grew up in Alabama. I graduated from Bama. And let me tell ya, I hate Auburn with a passion. I don't know why, I just do. But anyhow, people here in Texas talk about the great rivalry between Texas and Texas A&M. (mind you, I have lived in Texas for the last 29 years). But the UT/TAMU is no where close to the UA/AU rivalry.

The TnSt. game for Jackson is more of an event than rivalry. It's heated but don't have the "year round hate" that go with playing true rivals.

Between Grambling, Jackson State & Florida A&M v.s. S.U. there is more trash talking than the law allow. I don't know what get into me, but when I go home for the Bayou Classic, I can't help but bashing the hell out of every Gramblingnite that I see. Last year was real sweet.......they came from all across the country (more than normal) with the expectation of the win. I ran into one of my old high school teachers in the club and I gave him more hell than I did when a student in his class (he drove all the way from Houston). Love that pregame smacking (on and off TSPN). Surely have some formidable smacking foes from Gram off of TSPN.
I smacked one of my J-State buddies so bad in the ATL this football season until you could see smoke coming from his ears. I seriously believe he would have punched dumbbell if he was any where around.
And those dam_ snakes.............in 95 two over them in the ATL, you just knnnnnnoooooooooowww I pizzed folks off. Hell ATL is flooded with FAMU grads (only about 4 hrs away).
