For Grambling/Southern to even be in the poll speaks volumes in itself. Add to the fact, we are the only I-AA teams on there that really shows the extent that the rivalry goes.jarrodmon said:
I am really glad to read your responses about I-AA being represented in this poll. It is very encouraging that a sense of broitherhood has emerged greater than before. But the same way I chide Georgia Southern folk that GSU=Grambling, the biggest college rivalry also takes place in I-AA: Yale vs. Harvard. It is not only the base of college football, it is the base of college sports. Sis boom bah so they say...or is that Princeton? Whatever. Funny that no Ivy match is listed. :smh:

WRONG.... UT doesnt draw well in Nashville... they opened up the season in Nashville last year and the crowd was NOT what it expected and they play Vandy at Aldephia and they are talkin about moving it back to home and home. Now in KNOXVILLE it is a different story.
Like i said earlier, it goes back to where you are from. If this publication was The Northern Spectator Weekly instead of The Southern Spectator Weekly the SU-GSU game would have never been mentioned.
The same can be said for the Ohio State Michigan game. I sure there were another 20,000 to 30,000 who tried to get tickets, but were turned away. The stadium holds 110,000 and squeezed an extra 2000 plus folks in.

If it were a publication on the west coast, it would have most likely listed UCLA/USC as the greatest rivalry. And while it is a good one, it's NOWHERE near being a great one. It could be. I've been to that game, and it was "lukewarm" at best. They can't even fill up the LA Colesium or the Rose Bowl for that one.

I don't care if you had 80,000 in the FC last year. There was no game in BCF that came close to matching the intensity of The Bayou last year (I think you know that

In my speech class last November, I did a speech about the Bayou Classic and as you can see from my research, the Bayou Classic is the Biggest BCF game.
Have you ever attended the State Farm Bayou Classic? This is an event you would definitely enjoy. This event has a colorful and glorified history. It is an annual match-up between two in-state college football teams. Southern University of Baton Rouge, LA and Grambling State University of Grambling, LA. It has become one of the greatest and most distinguishable sporting events. State Farm has been the sponsor of this event for the past six years. The fans who descend upon the city to take part in the activities pump more than $30 million into the New Orleans economy annually and it attracts more than 200,000 revelers to the City of New Orleans.
This fun filled excitement has been going on for almost thrity years. It takes place the last weekend in November and is a two day event.
The State Farm Bayou Classic begins with a Super Job Fair, which is held on the Friday afternoon at the French Market Exhibition Hall Hyatt Regency in New Orleans beginning at 12:00 P.M. and ending at 5:00 P.M. Booths are set up by major companies and you get the opportunity to interact with major companies. This is a good time to have your resumes updated and let employers find you. The fair is also very informative and educational.
In addition to the job fair, the State Farm Battle of the Bands and Greek Show is held on the Friday evening beginning at 7:00 P.M.. The State Farm Battle of the Bands and Greek Show has provided the perfect prelude to the State Farm Bayou Classic football game. The Louisiana Superdome is the battle ground for the Battle of the Bands. It attracts more than 30,000 fans to the dome and fans come out in full force to see the bands compete. The Battle of the Bands is a competitive but friendly show of high-stepping, earth shaking, jam-sessions. Dr Issac Greggs is the director of the Southern University Human Jukebox and Dr. Larry Pannel is the director of the Grambling State University Marching Band. This event also features a ?Greek Step Show?. You might ask, ?What is a Greek Step Show? It is performances from Greek organizations from around the state. ?Stepping? evolved from the dance expression of dancers in Africa.
And finally Day 2, which is the Saturday, is what football fans have been waiting for. The battle for state bragging rights between Southern University and Grambling State University. The first ever Bayou Classic was played in New Orleans? Tulane Stadium in 1974. There were 76,753 fans in attendance. The match up between two of the country?s most respected black universities kicks off at 1:00 P.M. The game is televised live on NBC and fans across the country anxiously prepare for one of the greatest celebrations in the country.
In conclusion, the State Farm Bayou Classic is a unique family fellowship that exists within a football game. If you have never attended this great event, you have truly missed a great football match-up between two of the country?s most respected universities, not to mention the Super Job Fair, Battle of the Bands, and the Greek Show. My statement was in response to Ralph about the Harvard/Yale rivalry. Concerning the FAMU/BCC rivalry, I don't know how you could call that a rivalry when one team holds a 30+ win advantage over the other. The FAMU/BCC rivalry series record is around 43-13-1, FAMU. That's more of a traditional meeting. If we use this as a basis then the Grambling/Prairie View rivalry is in full effect.MsippiRattler said:

The Grambling/Southern rivalry series record is within a few games. Series: 25-23, Southern. Someone verify that for me...
