What you said makes no sense. Us old heads do not think any version of the Boom is as good as what we faced. So why would we care what the new Boom does? Heck they don't even try to look like the old Boom. Anyway my point was. Our band rival has always been FAMU no matter when they have faced off. Hell even Doc only got fired up about them and no one else. This is a new thing for SU vs JSU. So we really don't care or value any opinion in the SWAC about the "S". Always been that way. Understand now? Sorry to burst your bubble that Jukes care about JSU. The last thing is this. The next time I see a halftime show worth a damn that has the crowd in their feet. Then I will be impressed. By any band.

So you saying we care about the Boom? You think Little can hold Taylor's or Haughton's baton?

Do you really want to go there? You think the Boom now is as great as that Motown 90 Boom? All of the 80s Boom from Haughton to Taylor....minus the 83 version. LOL. Have you seen a recent Boom on the level of that 78 Legendary Boom? But SU is going down and JSU is on the way up band wise? OKAY!

Yes, I'll go there. Taylor only left last year. This year's BOOM still has some of his remnants.
On the other hand, Doc has been gone much longer....and it shows.
 
Inside the Cracker Jack Box you will find a Drill Tune tilted "This is what you came for" by Calvin Harris and another Tune tilted "In Common" by Alicia Keys. I think the fans would appreciate this change of Venue.

Dude you don't get it. Taylor's second stint as JSU band director was not as good as his first stint. Not his fault though. It shows what Jayrob? Consistency. Again you don't like Haymer. And don't pretend you liked Doc or SU's band either before he retired. Doc was not running the band his last few years that much. Mr J. and Mr Knighten was. You just think he was. LOL. Just stop. Really.

No wonder su went down during Doc's last few years. Makes sense now.
So, you said all that to say what? That Haymer STILL can't hold a candle to Doc, even at Doc's worst.
 
That is not his Character!!!! Something really Pissed him off that year. We were taught to hold our COMPOSURE no matter what circumstances life throws in your direction. I still think that he is a Great Director.
 
Since Alcorn name is in the title, I'll give my two cents. Everyone knows that back in the day SU did not look at JSU as their main rival. The rivalry actually started on here and a few other places via bandsmen banter on the internet. Jsu seemed to become obsessed with battling SU after the 97 game in Jackson.

So yes, I agree this BoomBox rivalry is a new age thing that didn't really take hold till the SCG in 99 and into the early 2000s

When I was at Southern and also when I was growing up it was Southern and Famu that's was the big rivalry. I'm from Jacktown and I know that. j st just obsessed with my school because they don't have the arsenal that Southern and Famu have.

I disagree! This band rivalry was already in full effect in the early 1980's! The game drew 57,000 in 1983! BoomBox is just a new name for an old band rivalry! JSU had never been obsessed with any band, only previous editions of the Boom. I still wonder who really had the powder blue band uniforms first.

What is there to wonder? One school has powder (Columbia) blue in it's school colors, the other copi....I mean, doesn't. Lol

Dude that game drew because both football teams came into the game UNDEFEATED and it was JSU's HOMECOMING. Wasn't because of the band battle. LOL. As a matter of fact. That was Haughton's last year as the director and that was not a good year at all for the Boom. That was an absolute slaughter that game. JSU fans were on their feet cheering the Juke coming off the field. One of the reasons I ended up at SU the next Fall.

You really have no clue when it comes to JSU do you? If you did. You would know that the SU vs JSU game has always been JSU homecoming and vice versa in the 80s.

As for the powder Blue. Doc ordered those uniforms SU wears now in 1983-84 time frame and we got them in Fall 85 my Soph year. Why JSU chose that lighter blue to go into their uniforms I don't know. Doc got rid of the white overlays because they were hard to keep clean. So it was a natural to go to a color closer to our own school colors. JSU got their first new set of uniforms at the end of 83 but could not wear them for the last game against Alcorn due to the rain. They changed their hat style and went with this feather plume instead of the shakers they have now. They changed to those after those feather ones kept getting wet or beat down with use. Look the Fall 84 to 86 tapes. Everyone immediately thought they were copying SU when they saw them. Because SU was the only SWAC band at the time with the shaker plumes. The JSU 83 uniforms had those hats like FAMU and Tenn State still have.

JSU had the powder blue band uniforms first. Southern added the powder blue to it's band uniforms in 1985. School colors are a moot point.

Why would school colors be moot? We got closer to our school colors when JSU moved away from their's. Heck they really got more lighter blue in the uniforms now.If you asked most old head Jukes they prefer the white overlays anyway. But they didn't have to pay the cleaning bill or deal with the way if faded. So this whole copying thing is what is moot and the uniforms got ordered around the same time frame. Doc chose to wait to 85 to debut them as he was expanding the band and it took longer to get them as he was waiting on the new Baritones and Mellophones as well. 84 could have had both bands out there with the uniforms at the same time. The only question us Jukes have had is why JSU went to the lighter colors in the first place. That's what started the whole back and forth banter. Those old Boom uniforms were on point and matched your football team. More than SU did with the white overlays. We were totally off from our school colors.
