Bethune Cookman: Will they make a run

JROCK

Understand, my comment was about SU and others leaving the comfort of the SWAC, "with tongue and cheek", some teams joining the OVC with TN State, nothin more nothing less.

I find it interesting and perhaps others do also. I know it has been discussed in the past. The discussion about some teams leaving the SWAC and joining other conferences. But, for some reason, it appears that most teams are in their comfort zone within the SWAC. Another discussion that tends to pop up at the beginning of the season, is having an opportunity to play FCS PWC Schools.

My comment was not about how many non HBCU game has won over the past 32 years or 100 years.

There is an old saying, forgot who said it

"You are only as good as your level of compention."

Is there a law saying that SU or any other team has to be a member of the SWAC, or it just where SU feel comfortable - Just asking.

Maybe that a question, someone should ask their university president. It would be interesting to read the responses.

North Dakota State would run through ANY FCS team...that's why they are the defending champs

Besides your argument was built on the basis that HBCU's are incapable of beating any PWC...which went right out the window with the examples I listed.

And if HBCU ball is so bad, then what are you doing to prepare your program to better itself...or are you content with sitting back and accepting "reality" and hoping you land in the SWAC title game while bytching about being too sorry to compete/try to compete with the rest of the FCS world(heck, the D2 world for some programs)?
Son, some of us come from much better so we expect better. As for change, there'll have to be a change at the top in order for a much needed change to occur. Would you not agree? Also, I hope you are not intimating that a very good NDSU could not be beaten, eh? W/ the right recruits and correct gameplanning/coaching, they could be easily beaten, imho.

My responsibility at this juncture is to be a fan and supporter. However, we do not recv a paycheck to recruit or work for our school, so it's joe blow employee's responsibility to fulfill, legally lol, what's required to effect the positive change for competitivity. Do you not agree? Now, what does all this have to do with the meac champ losing again? lol Lastly, can you txlate all I just said to that remedial-level sideline cheerleader I have from that piss po' broke azz backwards little svhool in itty bitty? They have a comprehension issue over there, obviously. :emlaugh:

:lol:I love it when folks come in with the what are you doing for your school and athletic dept... But honestly changes start at the top until these negro good ole days alumni and president die nothing will change...Good One P88...

You're a positive rarity in a class by yourself man. Expect the "people" lol(I'm being PC) to come at you w/ their substandard brand of intellect lol. These are the ones who bow their head when they see a white person walking towards them and they also embellish, proudly, living in their little ol' segregated society where they perceive themselves the big fish lol. Also, unlike the rest of us, they don't know what true d-1 talent looks like and actually have zero contact with it. And *whew*, they have never been close to a successful d-1 program to understand how/why they became successful(the inner workings from who they recruit on up).

Where's JR's ass at? He can continue explaining it.

Most people don't do squat because the clowns in charge of things look at you like a fool whenever you suggest something new. THAT IS IF THEY EVEN LOOK IN YOUR DIRECTION LET ALONE LISTEN TO YOUR SUGESTIONS. They want your money but don't give a shat about your opinion or ideas. The same "my way or highway......I'm the HNIC in charge" mentality that runs the SWAC office is the same mentality that runs these athletic departments.

The majority of alums are not going to give their hard earned scrilla to people that are not going to do anything except say "give me your loot now F off."

This is funny,,

So we still have this "Mythical Black National Championship" not recognized by anyone except the NCAA by default and the HBCU that wins the Mythical Championship.

Then you have the, what I call ther road to no-where championship, typically known as the SWAC Championship. At the same time the SWAC Officals, are thinking they are doing a service to the instutions. You have the two schools with the bands and dancing gals, battling on the gridiorn, for a $22.99 trophy, at the same time the sponsors and SWAC officals are lining their pockets.

At the beginning of the 2013 season, here come the topics about playing the PWI's and how we can beat them. I say the alumni need to demand their schools, leave the SWAC and join another conference. I say JSU or PB need to join the OVC.

Still coaching.

TSU lost to Mammoth 81 - 70, a Charter member of the Associated Colleges of the Midwest (ACM), a consortium of leading liberal arts colleges; Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.); Student Population 1300.

Dude, the SCG is just another excuse to tailgate ONE MORE TIME and see two decent bands.
I guess since it continues to outdraw the FCS championship game, it's worth something to some folks, especially the ones drinking, barbecueing, tailgating and watching the bands march in and out. Oh, and watching a little football too.

changes start at the top until these negro good ole days alumni and president die nothing will change...Good One

That's it in a nutshell, as long as the "Negros in charge" don't change, everythings else remain the same.

Hey, if folks can only see the "Mythical HBCU Championship" that's as far as they can see and if some folks can see as fas as the SWAC Championship, that's their world let them live in it.

I say there are HBCU's that can beat SDSU and others. I reckon we weii never know until one step out and schedule them. That's like a slave being satisfied with working in the Cotton Field, when they are free to leave the plantation. But, it that's all they know and desire, can't change spots on a Lepard or the color of an Ethopian.

That's why some HBCU's cannot out recruit the bottom feeders of PWC, it's the menality and lack of vision.

2004, they will never die out. Because, they breed their off springs, with the same mentality, in spirityal terms it's called the genoration curse. So they continue to have BBQ and Chitlen plates to raise money.

You got AAMU packed down to a tee. I guess we all have the same problem don't we. Man we are in a sad state. The sad part is the so called new blood is just like the old blood.

IMHO, it doesn't make any sense to leave the SWAC for a lateral move. I don't see the benefit and it is not what appeals to our fan base. As it relates to TNST, I don't see how the OVC has strengthen or made your program weaker and it makes geographical sense. However, I am not certain that the majority of your fans are pleased with the arrangement. I do endorse our programs playing formidable out of conference foes from all FCS conferences but reject the remedial FCS NCAA pimped playoffs. I think the SWAC members (Southern U and Grambling in particular) need to roll their sleeves up, recruit better (athletes and coaches {assistants included}) and put a better product on the gridiron. The facilities are in place and it is time to get back to work. As a matter of fact, I am pleased with the efforts of Bama State, AAMU and Texas Southern with the upgrade in their facilities. The SWAC is an excellent FCS conference with great game day experiences. The product on the field (instruction and discipline inclusive) must be enhanced though. Some of these other FCS programs (not all) have larger budgets, larger student populations (with significant revenue from student fees) that are not compatible with SWAC membership but that is a different topic for another day. To answer your other question, S.U. is 13-21 against non HBCU FCS opponents the last 32 years (other losses are against FBS programs). Playing 40 games in 32 years and "running" is an oxymoron.

Ehhhhhhh I respectfully disagree, speaking in terms of football and basketball we are almost at the bottom, I recall ESPN saying that Grambling was the worst basketball team in America this year preseason. Football wise the SWAC has made no noise to even be remotely respectable against other FCS schools. Alabama St really made the SWAC look halfway decent with the new stadium but jacked that up with losing to a D2 squad on National TV! We need to beat teams outside of our conference thats what gets respect WINNING on the field not in the tailgate area, the bands have really carried this conference for a while u hear more about the halftime show than whats going on, on the field....Also moving lateral would work better for an HBCU than moving to the FBS..Financially speaking we cant do it and it could take up to 10 15 years before our teams could even become mediocre at that level our fan base would leave and not come back.

Tn State is better off in the OVC than in the SWAC but they have typical negros who wants to play JSU SU Grambling and A&M every year just for the pageantry..U put Tn State in the SWAC they win it every year in football and bball....TSU was suppose to beat number 8 ranked Murray St last year....

Competition matters I can see most of u never played a day of sports in ur life no competitive spirit...

We all know a lot of the TN State fans, ride th elittle Yellow Bus with the wide isle. Like, most of their era, they can not see beyond their nose. Then there are enough to say, let's play all, regardless of the outcome. They are finally reliizing the days of selling fish plate and hot dogs are over. However, we have a long way to go.

I think the new president,Glenda Baskin Glover, a TN State Graduate and The Dean School of Businesses at Jackson State.
I am saying that because, she is the first TN State Graduate, to become the of the university and she is from Memphis. The alumni from Memphis have a love for the university, that cannot be matched by any other alumni chapter. She will move th university in the right direction.

Again, we are anot talking about any HBCU's accomplishment for the past 32 years, that good for history and bedtime stories for the greatgrand children. We need to be concerned from 2013 forewad, thinking, planning, recruiting and strategic planning to detrmine how too improve not only athletics, but the entire university.

The "good-old-boy" network of male presidents at HBCU's has failed, pure and simple. It's time for a change, if not some HBCU's will be added to the list of Morris-Brown; Western University (1865-1943); Bishop College; Lutheran College in Greensboro; Louisville Municipal College; Roger Williams University, Nashville.

The above is a short list HBCU's that existed now they are only past memories.

Robbed on a bad call, but we will not be anywhere close this season. On the football side, TN State made the FG, game won, No! OL moved, move back 5 yards, FG missed, lost by three to Jaksonville and the same with UTM. With those two wins 10 - 0 and the playoffs.

If any team in the SWAC had gone 11 -0, no playoffs, just a trophy on the wall. And the NCAA wil continue to list the SWAC last in the NCAA rankings, why, because "you black" No lie, schools in the SWAC deserve better.

All of you deserve better, so what's wrong with exploring another conference. Doggone, you may not win in the beginning, but "who knows" My thing is, don't stay in th eCotton Field, picking cotten, with no vision or desire to make things better.

Realistically, football wise the OVC sucks too. They haven't won a playoff game since like 2000 and their OOC against other conferences is pretty terrible. Hell TnSU can't even beat FAMU considering how much the OVC has made them "better." Likely, the OVC is better than the SWAC but let's not act as if the OVC is the Socon or the CAA. And FAMU hasn't been good in forever.

The last time a current OVC member won a playoff game is 1996.

LOL. I am done P88. While as alums we can give money and donate to athletics. It is up to the folks who get paid to do their job. I do agree 100% on that. Some folks are just pure lazy when it comes to that. Also I could go on how some coaches who know they are breaking the bank at our schools will not even spend one dime of their own money to go recruit. Surely making 200K a year you can pay for your plane ticket or such if the budget is tight. I had a conversation with ole Jackie Sherrill a few years back on the plane. I ended up sitting next to him in first class. Talk about being enlightened.

Although I am not a AJ fan 100%, I will say if our administration will ever get serious and make him hire or truth be told give him the money to hire a real OC, he will be a force to reckon with. I don't care what anyone says, at JSU or SU AJ would win against some of the top FCS schools. He has a system that is consistent and brings stability to a program. Those schools would give him what he needs to win plus a AD and fan club team who let him know the deal.

FAMU, give me a break! playing them year after year is like kissing your sister. How many sermons do I have to preach, it's not about the OVC. When the odds are against you, no matter how good a team you have, you just not going to win. The selection committee, know exactly what they are doing.

Kissing you sister, is MEAC vs the MEAC and the SWAC vs the SWAC, it's the same year after year after year, we have this same old discussion. Taligaiting in the SWAC, is like tailgaiting at TNState homecoming, you have more Negros cooking cooking chicken wing and potato salad then you have in the game. They justt ain't right, especially the one here. They complain, about having to pay $10.00 to park on campus, but don't have a problem paying 25 -30 at LP. when they can muster up the money to go to Titan game.

2012, the administration got smart "no more free tailgating" If you wan to tailgate, you have to purchase a game ticket and the natives got madder than a wet pig.

Let's face it ,most HBCU does not have a true fan base, that's was killed when little Johnny was able to play at Ole Pizz, rather than JSU, although Big Johnny played at JSU. Big Johnny is gonna have he and the Mizzes, in Oxford on Saturday morning, even if Little Johnny, is the 4th string tackling dummy.

99% of the alumni is just alumni, nothing more and nothing less.

And that's justthe way it tis.

Be careful JR or some former PV football coaches (plural) will come up in here and accuse you of being a "fraud" or "uncle tom" since you desired to LEARN and UNDERSTAND from the best how they became... the best. :read: (watch these muthafuggas, they read this board daily instead of doing whatever it takes to hone their craft and get better.) :smh:

Game ticket or not, at Memorial, you gonna pay to tailgate.
JSU charge by the RV, the car, or the "tailgating spot" and that spot price is determined by how many spaces your tailgate area covers. A space is a oversized car parking space and I think they run $25 per space. RV's are $50-60 I think. This has been in place for at least 10 years now.

Jackson State is going to get some money out of you if you decide to go in the game or not.

I told yall, some of the folks love riding on the Little Yellow Bus. Check this, Nashvile has the largest group of graduates, but cities such as Memphis, Chicago, Detroit, Birmingham has larger alumni chapters. At most games, a large percentage will be from out of town one of thse cities. Most of these crowes would perfer to send their kids to UT Martin, MTSU, AP and other schools, they love UT Chattanooga and Memphis State.

But want to comeup and be part of Homecoming, wanting to Celebrate our 100 Years.

I am so glad they changed the tailgating rules. These folks in Nashville are "Special" They fuss and argue about everything, but will rot hit a lick at a snake "Sho glad I am not from Nashville" just live here to earn a living, moving my butt back to Denver or memphis when I retire.

Never really had problems at JSU over the tailgating. They put it all on one side, (outside of the grass Grove on the Hospital side of Memorial). All RV's and other tailgating is confined to the West Street/Farmers market side. It turned out to be a good thing. They expanded the area this year by getting permission to use the Farmers Market parking area for RV's and Tailgating also. Now they got BBq smoke comming from both sides of West street on game day.

Even worse lol, but you get my point. I still don't get the logic that playing pwc's is going to make you any better if you don't have all the pieces that they have. People act as if they have some massive complex scheming that HBCU's have never seen before and by playing them you get exposed to it. They win because they have better linemen and better coaching. How exactly is playing them alone going to change that? Many of them have better skill players as well. I said the same thing on the meac board earlier, FAMU used to beat them because they had teams good enough to do it.
