Best Memories..

I was at the Kennedy/St.Aug game in 95 when it rained.... St.Aug played walking in the rain......Then they left and went in the whole out of the rain, while Kennedy lit up "Skin".....

I was at that game too! Did you see any of the 87-91 battles?

yep.. My cousin was marching at ST.Aug.....My band director in middle school at the time was from St.Aug. he always talked against Kennedy, which is why it was many of our band members going to Kennedy after middle school... When I got to high school I was like, Dang Mr. Brown you was being too biased against Kennedy...lol

Majic city Classic 1998: We were killin, but our football time was down at the half 28 to zip. we went on the field for half time first. Flawless drill to Janet Jacksons go deep. Dance routine comes around ....STRAIGHT HOUSE, came off the field to hard knock life. Third Q started, we were playin NBA(the hey song, rock n roll). the referee start itchin about us being to loud so we started singing. we sang NBA and Jesus is Real from about 5:00 left in the 3rd till about 2:00 in th 4th. The team came all the way back from 28-0 at the half to win 32-28. top the. SNAP SNAP

p.s. we not even talk about the beat down we gave the m&w in the fifth:smash:

LOL. ALSO OUR DIRECTORS WERE EXTREMELY....we'll lets say besides them selves. DR. Bray, Mr. Chapman, and Mr. Smith that game. My hornets from that era know this song. " Cause somebody's tryin to shmick in the snack and it aint gonna be no snick like rat":D

Dawg you know what it was!!! Crabbing was one of those things thats fun to look back on, wasn't fun at the time. Living with constant anxiety and fear, but the relief at the end made it worth the effort.

..... would not do it again!

^^^^
You are DAMN right about that! Folks at other schools don't understand... Hell, at Southern, you aint even a crab till AFTER 'hump day!'

Actually, we were down like 35-7 (I think that was the score) and we came back, tied the game and won in overtime.

That was like one of the best MCC's ever! :jump: That and 1994 MCC.

I got 2 great memories..

1.I was in 12th grade and marched with the juke,at the grand opening of the louisiana superdome..priceless

2.My first time seeing and marching against famu in fla..We piss the bus driver off and he pull bus 2 over, then doc got on..LOL..When we arrive in fla,doc give a speech, and it was LIGHT'S OUT for famu..:uzi: ..THAT'S A NIGHT I WILL NEVER FORGET.

Honestly, I remember J-State's homecoming.....we were playing SU.....I was in class Freshman or Soph year and ....the yard was PACKED WALL TO WALL and even a sihtload of people from SU and I walked out of class at 11:50 and saw my brother who snuck a flight in from california and was sittin' under the Que tree. I hadn't seen him in like a year and for him to be there for that game was priceless.

why u didnt go to southern? if u dont mind me askin. i know why i didnt go there

Tiger blood is just in the veins. Grew up in jackson and just loved JSU growing up. And all my close friends except one went to J-State

My dad played basketball at J-State and was drafted by the Lakers LATE...he didnt' make the final cut but hey! My mom played trombone in the Boom....back in the late 50's. Brother played trumpet in the Boom....sister went there......etc etc. It's just tradition for my family.

But I did think about SU because it was between The Boom or SU if I planned on playing in the band in college. I decided not to play in either.

ok I rambled on that one.

My best memory:

The look on BCC and FAMU's faces when the Storm walked off the field after their first Honda Performance..... PRICELESS!!!

thats a good reason too...i went there because i finally saw them in 96. it was my boy's crab year up there (baritone player named smokey from o.p. walker) and he let me see his season tape i was like:love:!! i never saw them before. on all the su jsu game tapes they always had jsu cut off from there. and people were sayin they were sad and everything, so im thinkin jsu had like 30 people just crackin notes and everthing....but it wasent! the complete oppisite! so i had to go see for myself...took a lil bit of adjusting but i got it down....this is why i miss playing/hearing jackson fair.....now i just rambled on

There are far too many. We had so much fun and so many memories. So, I'll name a few and only keep it to battles.

In no order other than off the top of my head, here we go:

1) Leaving the field in '85 in Jackson against JSU with 50,000 plus hollaring, cheering and waving blue and white & blue and gold pom poms confirming a really kick-ass show (most call it the Doggie Fresh Show).

2) Leaving the field in '87 in Jackson against JSU with 50,000 plus hollaring, cheering and waving blue and white & blue and gold pom poms confirming a really kick-ass show. I'm from MS and most of the people from my high school and my family are Jacksonian, even if they went to Alcorn undergraduate and JSU for graduate. Remember, SU wasn't winning football games against the MS teams back then. So, I had to win half-time and stands to be able to silence them when I went home for school breaks... :-) Mississippians are unforgiven when they get the best of you in competition. They feed you and put you up, but they are going to ride you... :-)

3) This may be the greatest one, but it is probably tight with the '85 JSU battle. 1986 FAMU visit to BR. It was like everybody either was scared we would get waxed in the long awaited battle between the two legends or they felt we didn't have a chance. FAMU's reputation was notorious, but that is all it was - reputation. These critiques hadn't seen them in years. However, once they went on the field in Pre-game and then we followed and waxed them with what may have been one of the top 5 half-time shows ever, FAMU and the stadium knew, this wasn't going to close at all. Then halftime game and that was proven true. For those who don't know or don't recall, SU's crowd use to be extremly critical of the Jukebox. The bar was way up their. We performed against the legend of the "SU", while our opponents simply had to please our fans. On that night, we exceeded everyone's expectations. FAMU was silenced and humbled and I promise you that was really difficult. They begged us to come to Florida in '87 for a rematch and of course we honored them by going into the most unfriendly, unwelcoming home stadium in the country and turned it out. So, that could be up there also, but I'll just keep it here with the '86 battle.

4) I have to include the first time my high school band came to SU and performed pre-game. That was the first time they saw me marching in the Jukebox. With me being the first one to march in the Jukebox from my school, it was a proud night for me and it was an opportunity for me to use that performance to leave a heck of an impression on the seniors and juniors in that band. Having served as their Band Captain for 2 years, I certainly wanted some of the better ones to follow me to SU; knowing most would end up at JSU or Alcorn.

5) I was trying to keep to 5 by going with only battles, but that is hard. I really enjoyed traveling and winning over visiting crowds. Since we usually spent the night Saturday, we usually got a chance to feel the love in the stadium, the restaurant, the hotel and anywhere else went before pulling out of town Sunday. Peforming in front of the Bayou Classic crowds was always a great way to end the year - much love; much love. But, I'll have to say #5 is a composite of my "Last Rips": Last Homecoming, Last trip to Jackson ('87), last game in Mumford stadium, and last Bayou Classic.

There are tones of bandroom, bus trips, tones of what's now called 5th quarters, tones of experiences hanging with what became real good friends in other bands like JSU and TxSU, tones of moments with the "Black Man" - Doc Greggs, tones of memories with who we called ole' schoolers encouraging and giving us pointers, etc... Yes, it was very hard work and very time consuming. But, we literally had a ball through it all and it showed in our performances.

Peace...
