Best Drill that I have seen

That it accomplished through hours of practice i.e. the Blue Devils/ Cavaliers. You so confidently chimed in that it takes "much more fine details" lol. as if you knew what these details were... (while I DO). Now, back to the topic... The OSU show up there is really good, but it is a looooong way from the "best drill" i've ever seen.

How would you know if you was never in a corp band that look anything close to that?!?!?...smh..
You are just as clueless as any one who just marched show style especially someone from the best show style band you ever marched against...:swink:
 



Honestly, I think Ohio State's show would 'wow' even the most finicky HBCU crowd.

I believe the Boom could come-out, do tiger-run on, float the JSU, into the diamond drill and execute it perfectly..... and Ohio State could come behind 'em with that show and get 'house' from the JSU crowd...

I also believe the 'S' could come off the sidelines, do the halftime score, into the circle drill, followed by the star drill and even bring the 'super 7' out front, and the Buckeyes would follow (with that show) and would get a staving ovation.... in Mumford.....

That's just how entertaining their show was..

We just needed a better clip, maybe from the 50, home side.....

You are correct, sir...and those chips make all the difference in the world to the youngsta's.

SUtrp96, I have seen hundreds of HS shows that looked as good as that Ohio State show in the clip; and some even better. The difference is that OSU learned that show in 2 weeks. (I have connections is Columbus.) You couldn't get a HS band to do that simply because of a shorter attention span.

Drill wise it was great!

Doc loved this drill from UT.....he had his variation of the flower drill back in the day. I think SU did it in the early 80s or late 70s.

From talking to some old cats they did the flower drill in the 70's... We did it once my crab year I believe it was for the Nicholls State game... That schiit takes a lot of concentration. It was very similar to the step one drill..

Man, by my senior year we had gotten to shows where we'd use chips and on the opposite side were numbers. LOL. so we had RED and RED1. lol. To make it through more sets in a day. But you are right. It's gonna be TOUGH to get a high school band to make it through that OSU show.

The Ohio State show was nice and cute. But definately not the BEST I've seen. Not by a long shot.

I've seen high school bands with better shows than that. Their drills were a lot harder thus making it more exciting to watch.

This show (Ohio State) was cute, with the different drills/themes, but boring as heyal .LOL Through the entire clip I"m like, "oh yeah...ET that's cute. But this shy.t boring as heyal" I started fastforwarding just looking at each "picture"

IN MY OPINION, any high school band that makes it to the finals of the "Bands of America" national competition held every year in Indianapolis, IN (or used to) does a better show than the drill in this thread.
Marian Catholic High School (my high school), Lake Park High School, LD Bell High School...

But again...the Ohio show is nice. Cute. Precision is there, but it's basic as heyal.

You could have saved it and just commented on the video but you had to interject your hate. But you fit the bill of the smack so it was funny.

Dude I was a member of my HS band and had scholarships offers to several SWAC bands and SEC so I love bands too. But you guys act like everyone here should know drills from other schools. So what Ohio State drills well. Who cares in the grand scheme of things.

Did I Miss Something?

I had to struggle through nine minutes looking at this stuff. Keep it at OSU or send it to Jackson State. It was nice, neat, cute and cuddley...Yet No Drive...and no Energy.

Doc used to called those type of drills "Scattered BBs to fixed Formation". Let one of the HBCU bands try this for a season and see the love they get. Somethings are Just a Matter of Taste..and this ain't mine.

I agree with you wholeheartedly, NT. That was just a better version of the FAMU, "Picture here...go. Picture there...go." Now Ohio State is better than this. I thought I was going to see the drill where they put "Ohio" on the field and they have the guy that "dots the 'i'" in "Ohio." Dotting the 'i' is a very prestigious honor for whoever gets to do it. Ohio State way better than this.

Now for those of you that don't know, there is a difference between doing a drill and doing formations. What you saw from Ohio State that time and what FAMU does is nothing but formations. What DCI does and most corp style bands do are drills. It's a lot harder than just putting formations on the field and it revolves around several corp style marching fundamentals (the "Magic Square" is one of them).

That show was entertaining but it was not a "drill" in any corp style sense of the word.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. If you don't like it it's cool by me. But imagine this, what if SU did the same formations but the only difference was they used the 6 lines to do it and were snapping and driving, would it be your preference then?

You have the nerve to call someone a band geek when you are from TN and you marched in the band yourself? That makes perfect sense..

There is a huge difference between this drill and what FAMU does.... the main difference in the transitions between the drills... that is what FAMU is horibble at. FAMU's looks a MESS on field, hell they just end up running to the formation most of the time).... Look at the transitions between each different picture here... It was like they came out of nowhere, you didnt have to sit back and wait for them to form. I use FAMU's TOXIC drill for example... the final picture was TIGHT.... but you had to wait 7 minutes for it to form... thats one of the ones they should have just RAN to.
 
I ain't here to say whether what they did in the drill was hard or easy, but you hear all these "piece of cake" remarks like these same folks marched in something at least on that level or better.

Must be something some of these folk can figure out when their college band don't do nothing close to those formations and fug it up dayum near every rip.. And drag arse every rip. If the show fit, wear it....

The difference here is I had other interest. See Basketball team and didn't follow it to College. See Academic Scholarships and other intrest..I don't post band all the time and make bold statements about my band going undefeated 15 years in a row. I don't get high and mighty and make unfounded statements about other people who are not familar with all the band web pages and blogs.

You guys do...

I mean daymn...just say the show was tight and keep it moving. Stop trying to judge what everyone else has to say.
