Best and Worst NFL Broadcasters

If there were still broadcasting, Paul McGuire and Joe Theisman would be tied at #1 for "THE WORSTEST". Thank goodness ESPN/ABC replaced those two knuckleheads.

Joe Buck, hate him in football can tolerate him in baseball because he's next to Tim McCarver, although I'd take Jon Miller and Joe Morgan in baseball over them two

On sideline reporters ESPN had the best in Solomon Wilcox on Sunday nights. Then Suzy Kolber followed him. In my mind the quality of sideline reporting went down by a lot after that move.

I don't care what anybody says, there is nothing like watching a game on ABC with that unmistakeable voice of Keith "Whoa Nelly" Jackson. I also liked Steve Stone when he called games for the Cubs. Harold Reynolds was also very good on ESPN. That cat was so cool with it and he made u feel like he knew what he was talking about.

Worst

Joe Buck and Tim McCarver are TERRIBLE. They get on my nerves with their self-righteous uppity attitude towards calling games.

Bill Walton is also horrible, for obvious reasons. He always finds a way to talk about the Grateful Dead during a broadcast. Ok man we get it, you're a fan of theirs

Emmitt Smith is a prime example why sometimes an athlete needs to stay away from the camera.

Emmitt Smith is a prime example why sometimes an athlete needs to stay away from the camera.

I recall in week 4, somebody asked which teams with were winless would get on the winning side today. When they got to Emmit, he said a team which was 1-2, and they were like "Ah, OK, we are talking about winless teams"

Secondly, IN THE SAME SHOW. Again, somebody asked which ROOKIE runningback would do good today. Emmit named a runningback who had been in the league 3 years.

Emmit simply don't do his homework. That, coupled with the fact he simply has no personality makes him HORRIBLE.

I know people hate John Madden when he talks about Brett Favre. But I liked Madden and Summerall.

Ive never understood why some don't like Madden. That's ol'skool, new skool, and alot of hours on the grid iron all wrapped into one. You gotta take Madden face value...that's what most gotta realize. You get an old HOF Coach in the booth, that's also the pioneer of football video games. Yea, he rambles a bit at times (alot of it is humorous to me, cuz I like funny, old white guys with as lil censorship as possible... )....but, that's authentic Madden. And, whether you like him or not...he gives good basic info that the casual and diehard fan can catch on to in stride of the game.

You can definitely get rid of Emmit and Keyshawn. They're both horrible.

What's the ESPN announcer's name that does college football games, that says stuff like, "has 5, has 10, count it off at 13 yards." I love his work. Used to work with Mike Gotfried. Maybe it's Ron Franklin or something.

That's his name...

I like Phil Simms and Troy Aikman. Mike Golic isn't bad either.

Only the worse stick out to me. John Maden and Pat Summ...Anyone who broadcasted TBS baseball games...I do like JAWS though, and Robin Roberts.

How could you not like Pat Summerall and John Madden? :xeyes:

That promo made me wanna watch the game like it's brand spanking new. Alot of talent on both sides.

the old ESPN Sunday night crew was pretty good with Thiesmann....guys like Emmitt, etc. makes the hard-working brotha with actual experience and credentials in the field get nowhere...they'll bump a white person into the studio pretty fast but as a black, it's ex-athletes for reasons unknown..Bettis, Barber, Smith, etc. were promised jobs right after retirement

Stephen A. Smith is one of the few I can think who didn't play sports but he made his name and still makes his name degrading brothas as that's his primary role...

the baseball crew at the games are well-versed...the in-studio crew with those retired players suck....

Stephen A. Smith played college basketball. I don't think he degrades black athletes...he defended A.I. pretty hard in Philly when everyone else thought he was typical thug athlete.

Yeah, I hate guys who come straight off the field on into the booth or studio like Keyshawn and Emmitt. I used to like watching Sunday Countdown, but now the show has fallen off..I rather watch...well...I really don't like any of the shows except Football Night in America. I especially like Costas and Bettis.

Smith made his name with negativity......he'll defend AI but then there's 5 others who don't....I heard him speak once at BCF function....instead of talking about Winston-Salem and his experiences...the speech was filled with alot of how so-and-so don't have a jumper, etc....

I have noticed the same thing. There are few spots for someone who actually graduated from journalism school and learned something. That's why I don't call every ex-player or coach like Emmitt a broadcast. There are some ex-athletes and coaches that have gotten better with experience and deserve the title.

Ron Franklin is pretty good for ESPN. I tell ya'll what, Kirk Herbstreit is underrated. I think he is getting better.

That Thursaday Night team of Doug Flutie and Craig "The Pony" James is horrible!!!!!! (especially Flutie)

I miss Pat Summerall, but he had aged and it showed (that and the drinks). I used to really love it when teams were going for it on short yardage plays... I used to root for the defense to stop them just to hear Summerall say, "An nuthing doing".

Stephen A Smith has let himself become a caricature... the dude thinks he's Kat Williams or some standup comic who has to have an "pissed off, trash talking" brother persona. It was "ok" initially when he did "spot" commentary but now it has gotten old (and somewhat stereotypical).
