BCS Standings

9-3 Louisiana Tech Won't Play In A Bowl

Louisiana Tech will not play in a bowl game this season after finishing 9-3 and turning down an invitation to play in the AdvoCare V100 Independence Bowl, a source told ESPN.

"Louisiana Tech was offered a bid Saturday to play Louisiana Monroe," an Indepedence Bowl official told ESPN. "They turned it down."

Athletic director Bruce Van De Velde told The Associated Press that Independence Bowl organizers offered a spot in their game on Saturday afternoon, but the Bulldogs had other possible options still available to them. Van De Velde said he asked the Independence Bowl for more time to make a decision, but was told by game organizers that they could not wait.

The Bulldogs finished third in the Western Athletic Conference, which has only one bowl tie-in. That went to champion Utah State. San Jose State, which finished second, will play in the Military Bowl Presented By Northrop Grumman.

Louisiana Tech said it was in line to play in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl, but when Oklahoma missed out on the BCS, it caused a chain reaction that pushed Iowa State out of the Heart of Dallas Bowl and into the Liberty Bowl in the Bulldogs' place.

Good for them. Nothing more than a money grab for these bowl presidents anyway.

I don't feel sorry for them Bulldawg bastards fuggin bit!

The problem with LaTech folks is that they think their program is bigger than others see them. They have indeed come up over the years, but somewhere along the way managed to get the head.

(IMO) It wasn't that LaTech didn't want to play in the Indy Bowl, they just didn't want to play against ULM. They think ULM is beneath them and has made it clear to the AD in the past that a game against ULM should NEVER be considered...despite being less than 30 minutes apart.

That would have been a hell of a matchup too. The game would have been a pretty good draw.

Meanwhile, a 9-3 team that led the nation in scoring offense is going nowhere. That would be Louisiana Tech, which issued a woe-is-us release Sunday evening lamenting its plight – but that’s hardly the whole story.

Tech earned its snubbing by getting choosy with the nearby Independence Bowl. The I-Bowl wanted to match the Bulldogs against in-state non-rival Louisiana-Monroe, and according to published reports that became a sticking point. Tech has avoided scheduling UL-M, its perceived inferior in an ongoing Louisiana feud, and balked at the matchup.

In a second release from the school Sunday, Tech athletic director Bruce Van De Velde said, "Contrary to media reports, at no time did I, our head coach or a member of our administration turn down an official invitation to any bowl game. In consultation with our coach and our university president, we asked Independence Bowl officials for more time to make a decision until we could properly consider all post season options that were available to Louisiana Tech. Unfortunately, we were not afforded that time and the decision was made to rescind the offer."

Interpretation: No need to feel sorry for Louisiana Tech staying home. This was self-inflicted and hubris-related.

:smh:

I don't feel sorry for them MOFOs at all.
